Issue 2: Oct. – Dec. 2015
Featured city on cover: Beirut, Lebanon
President’s Note
July 1st, 2015 was another turning point in my Rotaract
history. I had to say goodbye to my past team and
welcome a new team on board, thereby witnessing the
kick-off of the third Med MDIO year ! I cannot describe
how lucky I feel to be there for this very dear MDIO for
the third year in a row, since it was born!
Fifteen Country Representatives and seven Executive Board members are actively
working to meet the goals of the Med MDIO, at the service of the Mediterranean
and the whole world. Eversince the start of our year, in addition to all our habitual
efforts to bring our districts and clubs together by sharing their news, preparing
their directories, constantly updating our website and social media platforms, and
spreading the Rotary word in all the four corners of the world, our intentions have
clearly been oriented towards humanity, towards literally being a gift to the world!
Despite the efforts of all the peacemakers to spread love and kindness around the
world, many children remain shelterless, suffering from malnutrition and hunger,
and dying... They are fighting battles they know nothing about. They are paying
the price for actions that are by no means related to them. Together with all the
elite Rotaractors in my team, I would like to dedicate this year to children, for
they are the adults of tomorrow. They are our only hope for a better future. This is
how our idea of the global initiative to help the Syrian children refugees emerged.
I would therefore like to call every Rotarian and Rotaractor around the globe to
lend us a hand so that we can make life look slightly better in their eyes and feel
slightly warmer in their hearts…
To an extraordinary Rotary year
Sincerely,
Vera Damerjian
Med MDIO’s Incoming President
The Med MDIO President 2016-2017 is going to be the fourth
consecutive President for this organization. After three amazing
Rotarian years, under the supervision of Med MDIO Presidents with
strong personalities and leadership characteristics, it is my duty to
continue this tradition and preserve the great work that has been done
till now.
At the very beginning of my Rotaract path, I was chosen to become
part of the Med MDIO. At first, I was unsure about it, but over time
this idea gained so much ground, so much power inside me that it
became a living part of my life.
It all started in November 2014 with the position of the Med MDIO Country Representative for
Greece. I worked hard for the admission of my Country to this great MDIO. During the Rotarian
year 2014-15, the opportunity to take over the position of the Social Media Coordinator was given to
me and I grabbed the bull by the horns! After many hours of pure Rotaract-work, I created the
official website of the Med MDIO and opened a new chapter for the promoting potential of our
work.
Moreover, thanks to the Med MDIO, the last year's main project of my Club, Rotaract Club Athens,
"BUY ONE MORE!", managed to gain a huge load of awareness and won the first prize of the
Rotaract Med MDIO Outstanding Awards 2014-15. Approximately 8500 kg of food supplies and
essentials were donated to more than 20 social institutions, hospitals and foundations mostly for
children resultin in gatherings worth 15.000 euros for approx. 14.750 people. The moment of pride I
felt while presenting the project at the MEDICON 2015 in Salerno, Italy, a project for which I gave
all my power to make it come to life, was priceless.
This year, as the Vice President of the Med MDIO, I'm doing my best to help and serve my team and
my President in every way I can. Till now, I have successfully represented the Med MDIO during
the REM Poznan 2015, the MBC 2015 in Egypt but also the REM St. Petersburg 2016. The
promotion of our Med MDIO is and will continue being one of my highest targets. My first objective
is to see the healthy expansion of the organization.
I would like to thank from the bottom of my heart everyone who supported me, believed in me and
helped me believe in myself.
Rotaractly yours,
Paul Sampatakakis
Updates about Syrian Children Refugees Initiative
Med MDIO has been running “Med MDIO for Syrian Refugees” project successfully since the beginning of
2015-2016 Rotary year in order the prevent Syrian Children from becoming a “Lost Generation”. Various
projects have been done during the past 3 months by Rotary/Rotaract Clubs around the World for this
common objective:
- Rotaract Club of Kyrenia St. Hilarion together with Rotaract Club of Larnaca Kition. Goods were collected
and this time it was divided by the camp located in Kofinou and the camp in Nicosia. Shoes, clothes, hygiene
products and toys was delivered at the same day by the two clubs:
- Rotaract Club of Beirut Cosmopolitan has provided us a list of needs for the Refugees in Lebanon. In
addition, discussions are being made on the action that will be taken in this direction
- The unique screening of the award winning film of Youth in Cyprus was a successful fundraising event in
aid of Syrian refugees in Greece. A project conceived and organized by Rotary Club of Nicosia Aspelia in
cooperation with Rotaract Club of Nicosia Aspelia and Rotary and Rotaract Clubs of Nicosia Ledra. Around
300 Nicosians, Rotarians, Rotaractors, friends, co-workers etc watched the film, thus contributed towards
fundraising for shelters. The daily arrivals of thousands of Syrian refugees in Greece, combined with the
difficult economic situation in Greece, renders the donation on behalf of service groups such as Rotary
essential. Net proceeds has been used to purchase shelters and delivered to refugees on site in Greece
through the network of Doctors of the World.
- Rotaract Club Nocera Inferiore Apudmontem hosted a fast-futsal tournament, played on in Angri at “Joga
Bonito” pitch, in order to finance the project Med MDIO for Syrian Children.
- Rotaract Club Athens, after presenting a 2500€ worth medical and pharmaceutical supplies to the Greek
Center of Disease Control, is now responding to the request of the ‘Open Hospitality Center’, Elaionas,
Athens, to build a dental clinic for the Refugees installed in the Capital City. The project’s total estimated
cost is around 7000€, divided among buying a dental chair, plumbing, logistics, and other installation needs.
Rotaract Club of Dubai has given a hand by donating 500€ to Rotaract Club Athens. Italian Clubs as well
have organized fundraisers for this project, and further details will be announced soon.
Many projects has been also done before which can be viewed on our website www.med-mdio.org and many
Clubs are planning projects for this objective.
If your club is not a part yet, join today by simply submitting your project to following link
http://goo.gl/forms/a5ZVsJDvGr. Give a hand and lets help together preventing Syrian Children from
becoming a “Lost Generation” . Stay tuned on our social media platforms for all the news and updates about
this great humanitarian action!
Rotaract on a global scale: The Rotaract and Interact Committee
As Rotaractors, we have our club life, district events, national and regional activities and friends
around the world. In Rotaract and Rotary, every club is autonomous and can do whatever the
members feel right – as long as it is in line with the motto “Service above Self” and the standard
values of Rotary. Beyond the club life, there are some responsibilities at the district level, which
ensure that there is a minimum of exchange between clubs and that successful practices are being
shared.
On a regionally larger level, we also have Multi-District-Information-Organizations (MDIOs),
such as MED MDIO along the Mediterranean Sea, connecting Rotaractors across districts. In order
to bring all those different ways of living Rotaract (and Rotary and Interact) together and to see if
the general policy is still serving its members, there are some worldwide committees. One of them
is the Rotaract and Interact Committee, which I’m excited to be chairing this year together with
Yen-Shen Hsieh, a Rotarian from Taiwan. Every year, this Committee is made up of six Rotarians
and at least three Rotaractors. In 2015-16, we are four Rotaractors from Ethiopia, India, the US
and Germany.
The committee has two main duties:
Preparing and leading (together with RI staff members) the program part of the Rotaract Pre-
Convention which is held every year on the two days prior to the Rotary International Convention.
The next one will be on May 28 th -29 th in Seoul.
Preparing recommendations for the Board of Directors and the President of Rotary International.
Within the committee, we discuss all kinds of possible changes to the code of policies or the
Rotary bylaws concerning Rotaract and Interact. We can include ideas, critique or propositions
from our regions and prepare them with our viewpoints for the directors. The final decision is
taken either by the Board of Directors in one of the four meetings per year or by the Council on
Legislation (“CoL”) which is held every three years.
Join us! Rotaract is based on participation. If you have comments, ideas or critique, please share it
with us and I will be happy to take those into the committee discussions. You can reach me at
florian.wackermann@rotaract.de. Help us making Rotaract even more exciting!
Rotaract Club Nicosia - Ledra
Christmas Bazaar: Santa Claus' workshop (Community Service: Fund Raiser
Christmas came early for another year for the members of the Rotaract Nicosia- Ledra. For a third
consecutive year, the members organized their annual fund raising Christmas Bazaar at a central
road in Nicosia, where handmade crafts and sweets are sold. This year our goal was to raise funds
for the Association for the Prevention and Handling of Violence in the Family. The preparations
started from October and Ledrans dedicated every weekend in order to reach the desirable quantity
and the quality of crafts and sweets. The Ledran workshop seemed like the Santa Claus’ workshop
and despite the hard work, fun, laughter, songs, dance and excitement were what characterized our
weekends up to the day of the event. The day of the Bazaar finally came. That Saturday, Rotaractors
started very early in the morning unpacking the crafts and sweets. By 10 o’ clock everything was
ready; the street was dressed in a festive Christmas spirit, children were singing and the members
started selling and promoting our cause. When the rain started, after a few hours, people
disappeared from the streets. Ledrans were did not give up until they realized that the rain would
last long. Everything was packed and unpacked again in the next morning. Some of them were sick,
some of them didn’t sleep at all, but all were there to achieve their goal.
The members were excited and full of energy. They were informing people about the cause and
everything sold out once again before the end of the event. Ledrans went home exhausted but
satisfied and happy. Once again they excelled. This event, from its organization to its execution,
resulted not only in the achievement of our goal but in the enhancement of the relations between the
members, the opportunity to be creative, the establishment of a strong relationship with the
Association and the realization once again of the importance of being a Rotaractor.
Rotaract Club Nicosia Aspelia
HIV Awareness event
Our HIV Awareness event was part of Rotaract Club Nicosia Aspelia’s International
– Community project. HIV infections are rising in Cyprus while awareness is
limited. Meanwhile, HIV/AIDS patients are facing discrimination within the society
and at their workplaces. As 1 st of December is World AIDS Day, We launched an
HIV awareness campaign informing the public of protective measures and false
myths. Meanwhile, we conveyed a strong anti –discrimination message. This project
was presented in November at the CYBC Radio 1 show for Youth encouraging,
informing people of Rotaract Club Nicosia Aspelia ‘s campaign and presence at
Ledra’s street. Later, a group of Aspelians gathered at the busy Ledra Street, the most
popular commercial, pedestrian street in Nicosia. We distributed over 200 awareness
leaflets to passersby. We were proud that this campaign was embraced by civilians,
the Police at the check point, doctors, shop owners, Professors , known blogger and
activist Orestis Tringides etc. Our campaign was also supported by all Presidents of
Rotaract Clubs in Cyprus and our VDRR and our Past DRR. Our Social Media
campaign with photos of the event was also fruitful with over 2000 views. Rotaract
Aspelia is very pleased that the HIV awareness event is part of our own International
–Community project. Clubs such as Rotaract Volos and Rotaract Club Iasi have been
invited and accepted to join this project. This would have two parts, each comprised
of one project for the same theme. However, each club would create a project
tailored for their own community needs. So the HIV awareness event is part of a
bigger international/community project targeted towards: a) HIV awareness and/or
HIV fundraising event in December b) Unemployment in 2016 ( this could take the
form of a professional workshop, euro format cv seminar or distributing food to the
unemployed from take away shops among others). We will then do a digital
presentation of each project and send it to other participating clubs. These will be
later shown during our club meetings to members. As a club, we are very proud of
this HIV campaign as we are only 1 of 2 clubs in Cyprus to deal with HIV, a pressing
issue this year. We also want to thank our sponsors for subsidizing our expenses. We
look forward in cooperating with our partner clubs for our second part of our project.
A Warm Winter for Tripoli
During the second quarter of this Rotarian year, Rotaract club of Tripoli had witnessed several
exciting yet important events. As a start, Rotaract Tripoli held a Rotaract Awareness session
that was presented by VDRR Dr. Alexander Kandalaft. This informative session was crucial
for our guests who will get pinned.
Rotaract Tripoli also participated in the international prostate cancer awareness campaign
Annual Christmas Charity Event
Christmas is the time for sharing and loving. The question is ... How much should we give?
Well, the Rotaract Club of Kesrouan discovered that giving only means its real worth when it streams
from the heart...For our Christmas charity event of the year, we decided to spend a whole day of
activities with orphan girls at the orphanage of Ain Waraa in Ghosta - Kesrouan. To prepare for the
event, we performed multiple meetings, prepared food supplies to last the orphanage the season,
bought and wrapped gifts also teamed up with our Rotary Club of Kesrouan who were willing to
support us with the expenses of the day! The day began on December 12th, 2015 in the early
morning, where 14 Rotaractors arrived ready for action! We had delicious icebreaking breakfast with
the girls whose ages ranged from 5 to 16 years. Afterwards, games included name calling, team
building, and various fun activities which we enjoyed together. Music filled the air as Lucien, rotaract
kesrouan member, played the guitar with the help of Derbake by Marie-Nour and everyone sang
christmas carols preparing ourselves for the arrival of baby Jesus Christ!
When lunch time was near, we provided a bus who drove us and the girls down to the city to
MacDonald's. After playing, bonding, and eating the meals, the girls knew that we will not go away
without a small surprise!
The surprise was the arrival of Santa Clause who decided to pay the well behaving girls an early visit!
Each girl received an individual present which consisted of things to be worn in the winter (scarves,
socks, mittens...) and a toy according to their age.
As we discovered the real essence of Christmas and counted our blessings that day, we realized that
Christmas is felt in the heart but lived only through service!
journey started with a breakfast at 7 am and arriving at the location around 9 using a common
transport mean. Friends, guests, fellow rotarians and rotaractors walked side by side for more
than six hours in the valley attributed to the saints guided by the hiking-expert Rotarian Naji
Audi. The trajectory was excellent, the scenary was beautiful, and the ambiance friendly and
light! At the middle of the hike, the whole group had a joint lunch which included sharing the
food which had been home-prepared by each person who came. It was truly a once in a lifetime
Rotaract Club Nocera Inferiore Apudmontem
A Fast-Futsal Tournament
As usual, sport – especially football – is the best way to join people and let them pay attention
to very important targets. So, “Rotaract Club Nocera Inferiore Apudmontem” members
structured a fast-futsal tournament, played on November 15th in Angri at “Joga Bonito” pitch,
in order to finance the project for a dentist's center in a refugee camp of Athens city. Football
and solidarity are the two main topics which RAC young men have in common and let them
pick up several funds for that laudable purpose. Not only Rotaract members: 8 teams, players
from whole Campania, 7 thirty-minute games, from quarters finals to the final; “All-Blacks
team” and “RAC Nocera Inferiore-Sarno” contended for the cup, the former won 4-2 after a
really hard match. Despite Paris tragical events of 2 days before, everyone who took part in this
sport event - for instance RAC Apudmontem organizers - tried to do the best to promote people
solidarity and cooperation, as Rotary International has bene doing since 1905.
Another success for the Rotaract Club of Palmi, chaired by Adv. Marco Gagliostro, that Saturday,
December 5 at the House of Culture of Palmi, in collaboration with the Academy of Music, Ars Musica in
Oppido Mamertina, staged a benefit concert aimed at raising funds for Rwanda. There were many artists
who for another 2 hours entertained the large audience present. They were collected well € 1200 which
will be fully allocated to the project "Service in Rwanda." The project involves the construction of a
10,000-liter tank that will serve to feed the toilets - also completely redone - a large school complex of
Gasura (small village located in the center of Africa) currently deprived of drinking water and that It will
be powered by the rains, which are very abundant during the "rainy season". The President of the Rotaract
Club of Palmi, the lawyer. Marco Gagliostro says that the essence of our club service is to put ourselves at
the service to the world, no other purpose. As our president says international kr Ravindran in its annual
motto "be the gift in the world." Here, with this spirit we, every day, we live our lives, all our actions have
tended to be the gift in the world to try, together, to change the world. Today, thanks to the contribution and
presence of large number of people present at the House of Culture, we were able to donate € 1,200 to the
project from us married. The Artistic Director of the Musical Ars Musica - Maestro Emmanuel Sacca -
states that "the cultural association ars music has embraced the initiative of the Rotaract Club of palms in
full synergy with the aim giving, with the performance of its professors of 'academy, the benefit concert.
The noble cause today is combined with the noble art that we pass on and teach in our academy. Classical
needs and talked wth the medical staff of the center. The staff asked for our contribution to the
construction of a dental office for the Center and our assistance in gathering clothing. The Rotaract
addition, there is a social drugstore and a social market where one can get second-hand clothing for
On the occasion of International Day for the elimination of
states: According to Rotaract Club of Volos, ‘’An EU- wide
survey showed that 1 in 3 women in Europe have
experienced physical or sexual violence. One in five women
will become a victim of rape. It’s not a localized problem in
developing countries or least developing countries. It’s a
global problem. Assaults occur in all cultures and social
levels against little girls and women alike. The most
concerning thing is that women refrain from speaking about
their abuse. The feeling of shame is so intense for rape
victims that many never tell anyone what happened to them.
Thus, your act of speaking out can end the false sense of
shame that survivors often carry’’.
Collection of olives and distribution of olive oil
At the end of November, members of Rotaract Club Panorama in cooperation
with the municipality of Pilea – Hortiatis organized an action based on
humanity and goodwill. Rotaractors and citizens gathered with a view to
harvest olives from olive trees and give the outcome olive oil to families facing
financial difficulties. It was a sunny Sunday of November when more than 30
volunteers offered assistance in that action for the good of the community.
Nowadays, the economic crisis has affected most people in Greece and the least
we can do is to come together and try to improve our lives in any possible way.
At this point, we have to mention that it was a difficult procedure for someone
who has never done this before. Despite the fact that it was a challenging action
that needed a lot of effort, the outcome was positive because we manage to
gather more than 500kg of olives and 100lt of olive oil. It was a great
experience.
Our RYLA started to become more interesting, and more fun. There were team building exercises
where the young people needed to use a range of problem solving skills and work as a team.
Throughout the RYLA, each young person was given the opportunity to step into a leadership role
and put some of their new found skills to practice; all by using WellSpring’s team of experts who are
mainly dedicated to teaching, modeling , and equipping youth and families and teachers in the
Egyptian community with genuine moral values through camps, development programs and
leadership training.
It was amazing to see they all shone as leaders, supported fellow leaders and surprised themselves as
they took the opportunities presented to them, faced and overcame some of their biggest fears
specially Acrophobia as got the chance to walk on high ropes and try the zip line over the camp.
The young people also took part in reflecting on personality types, their own leadership styles and
were able to identify both strengths and areas of improvement in their interactions. As part of their
reflection time, the young people were allowed space to try and better understand themselves and
how they interact and work with others.
Zone 20B Institute 2015: I will join Rotary, but…
The Zone 20B Institute is an event that brings Rotarians from all over the region to share and discuss Rotary past,
present and future. Past President Ms. Laila Kenawy’s presentation entitled “I will join Rotary, but…” highlighted
the choice every Rotaractor turning thirty has to make and their concerns, wishes and hopes. It highlighted the
importance of fun during the meeting for the youth, as well as the financial load extravagant meetings might pose.
It depicted that Rotary holds a great opportunity for young professionals yet, often I have seen how little
Rotaractors know about what Rotary really does and what Rotary has to offer. Hence, we recommend exerting the
same effort to promote Rotary to Rotaractors, as we promote our Rotary work to the rest of the world. Rotaractors
need to be truly engaged in Rotary projects, from planning, proposal writing over to fundraising and
implementation, monitoring and evaluation and documentation. When Rotaractors become an integral part of the
process, they will remain there. Rotaractors need to be reassured, that they will be listened to, that a mechanism is
in place for them to voice their ideas and approaches; they shouldn’t be intimidated by the age difference. Last but
not least, what Rotaractors often miss in Rotary is the action. Therefore, a message needs to be sent out, that
projects will be designed with more hands on implementation and direct interaction with the community. Let’s
have Rotary take a little action from Rotaract… and that is why I will join Rotary … I will join Rotary but… I
would bring in some action.
The Institute as a whole was another experience by itself. Set in beautiful Antalya, with Rotarians from all over the
world it was an eye-opening experience to professional event planning and management. Every single detail was
well thought of and perfectly executed. The mix of formal and informal environment during the events, made it
easy to get to know Rotarians from all over the world and learn so much about Rotary. It was surely a great
experience and I am thankful to everyone who made it happen.
Halloween & Edu-fun box!
On October 24 th , we had an early Halloween celebration at Kelsey and Sarah’s, who have recently
been attending our meetings and actively participating in our projects adding a well observed effort
to our club. The celebration was highlighted by integrating a community service touch to every
party where we prepared an entertaining and educative box for our Maktabti project (where we
meet up with the girls in La Femme Nouvelle orphanage and read with them through educative
interactive sessions every week in addition to the library we renovated for them). The box included
phonics flash card game, piggy banks, board games, coloring books and short stories. Needless to
say, all our Rotaract members and guests were nicely dressed in creative costumes and we enjoyed
a joyful atmosphere and delicious food, mostly cooked by our talented members of course.
What do you know about TRF or The Rotary Foundation?
That was the quiz set for our members during the weekly meeting (November 1 st , 2015) to test how
much we know about the foundation. The challenge was this: if you opt out of the quiz, then the floor
will be all yours to entertain the club by singing one of your favorite songs. All the club members came
prepared for option 1!The discussion was fruitful and TRF facts were shared amongst the members.
Here are some TRF facts:
1- Polio eradication is Rotary’s top philanthropic priority.
2- District grants are block grants that enable clubs and districts to address immediate needs in their
communities and abroad. Districts may request up to 50 percent of their District Designated Fund for
one grant annually.
3- Global grants offer clubs and districts opportunities to participate in strategically focused, high-impact
activities. These grants fund large-scale international humanitarian projects, vocational training teams,
and scholarships that have sustainable, measurable outcomes in one or more of Rotary’s areas of focus.
4- Rotary’s areas of focus are: peace and conflict prevention/resolution, disease prevention and
treatment, water and sanitation, maternal and child health, basic education and literacy, economic and
community development.
5- Every Rotarian, Every Year (EREY) is the fundraising initiative to encourage support for the
Foundation’s Annual Fund. EREY aims to engage every Rotary club member by encouraging every
Rotarian to contribute to the Annual Fund every year or in a Foundation grant or program every year.
To celebrate World Tourism Day, we attended a tour of downtown Cairo hosted by
knowledgeable staff of Cairo D-Tour and Rotoract Kasr El-Nile. From seeing Radio Theatre
and feeling it's invigorating energy, to walking through the usually bustling Cairo Stock
Exchange building, to viewing palaces that were once inhabited by Cairo's royalty, we truly
experienced the beauty and magnificence of downtown. With hash tags galore, we competed to
document our tours to win tickets to attend Radio Theatre.
In celebration of Spain and its musical heritage, we honored our partnership with this
beautiful country by hosting a guest who presented us with authentic Spanish songs. With
his guitar and Spanish language, we sang and danced to foster our connectedness along
with our Interact club members. The chords and harmonies filled our ears with the
melodies and joy that permeate Spanish culture.
We celebrated Spain! Martin along with his guitar, helped us sing Spanish….Feliz
First Aid Jingles for Kids
Working with the orphaned girls during our Maktabti sessions (our ongoing
eradicating illiteracy project) made us realize the importance of several things we
might consider axiomatic. What to do in emergencies was one if these things so the
club came out with simple first aid jingles for kids that can be easily learned and done
in one of our sessions. Coming from our belief that all of the Egyptian children should
have this knowledge we turned these jingles to nice catchy posters to spread this
knowledge across our community to benefit this generation and generations to come.
Royals celebrating Christmas
On 26 of December, we were all invited for a unique Christmas party at
Shireen Wissa’s place. It was a dish party, that gathered many friends and
guests in addition to Rotaractors not just from Cairo but from Alexandria as
well. The villa was well decorated from the outside and the inside, with two
Christmas trees and colorful decorations scattered in every corner.
The food served was delicious, especially the deserts. It was a nice
gathering; we took a lot of pictures and had fun. Towards the end, it was
Secret Santa time – the gifts were creative and all Christmasy as well!!
A healthier You!
A healthier You! is a healthy lifestyle campaign developed by Rotaract Club of Giza Cosmopolitan.
Through our campaign we aim at promoting healthy habits for a healthier body as well as a
healthier mind. For the first phase of our project we are introducing four aspects. The first consists
of daily health tips shared on our various social media outlets. The second is a bit more interactive
and directly beneficial, a series of health related sessions and workshops (e.g. yoga, no-equipment
workouts etc.). For the third phase of our campaign we are working on a video series that is split
into two categories. The first a series of videos featuring health professionals and success stories
(physicians, trainers, cancer survivors) sharing their stories and advice, while the second category
features Rotaractors from all over the world sharing their daily health habits. The fourth and final
stage is publishing, sharing and distributing health guide that contains not only general health tips,
but healthy eating diets, fun fitness challenges, and a lot more. a small and fun guide that is easy to
carry around for a healthier you!
Rotaract Club Podgorica
Local Support
Rotaract Club Podgorica, Montenegro (2483 District), has successfully organized its largest local
action so far. The aim of the action was to help one of the Resource centers for children with
developmental disabilities named ,,1. Jun’’ – Podgorica.
It was two months period of preparation for a project, and the concept was to:
Organize a Charity night, where we invited all Rotaract and Rotary Clubs from Montenegro, as well
as other people willing to contribute to the community in this manner. Night was held in a local
restaurant, owned by a member of the Rotary Club Podgorica.
The entrance fee was 10€ and 15€ and with the ticket guests were gifted with a bracelet made by the
members of the Rotaract club.
During the night, everyone had a chance to take a part in Tombola and therefore buy tickets for the
price of 5€.
We must mention that our guests were more that generous and none of our Charity Donation Boxes
stayed empty. This night was refined with the beautiful sounds of the violin, performed by a highly
talented fourteen years old Luka Perazic. As this was the biggest action organized by the club, we
found it symbolic to mark a year of our activities and involvement in a social life of Montenegro, on
this night. In such a spirit the event was marked with a birthday cake. The whole event was supported
by the local news and social media portals. The results were beyond expected. We managed to collect
1.700eur help of donation for the kids in the Resource center, what was directly invested in all the
goods they needed, such as:
Special bed for epilepsy suffering kids
HD TV
Music player
Football and basketball equipment
Curtains
Closet
Painting equipment
About 60 kilos of secondhand clothes
Warm Winter
In this Sunday, December 27, 2015, as usual, and always live up to its promises. The
Rotaract Club of Sousse, rich with its younger generation, went through its action
"Warm Winter" in the integration of disabled center in suburban Nfidha, acting on a
first exploratory visit established two months ago. Having appealed to a collect at the
beginning of November, this has made it possible to collect large quantities of
blankets, clothing, shoes, etc. Hot enough to keep the young disabled people from
socially disadvantaged backgrounds to brighten this year end. Hoping to do better next
year, we send a big thank you to donors and to the solidarity of members.
