2016 ACPA ANNUAL CONVENTION
WELCOME
Bienvenue au Congrés 2016 de ACPA à Montréal, Québec, Canada!
Welcome to the ACPA 2016 Convention in Montréal, Québec, Canada!
After 91 years of hosting the annual meeting in the same country, we are honored and excited to welcome you to ACPA-College Student Educators
International’s first convention outside of the United States. The city of Montréal offers a unique opportunity to explore the global dimensions of our
work as higher/tertiary educators in the support of student success throughout the world. By centering our work on a set of convention learning
challenges, the 2016 Convention Planning Team has created a curriculum of experiences that delivers on ACPA’s core values: Diversity, multicultural
competence, dignity, inclusiveness, access, involvement, openness, respect, learning, growth, outreach, advocacy, and action. When we build upon
our own professional and personal competence, we are better positioned to support the development and learning of students in our programs and
on our campuses.
As the Association expands beyond geographic, cognitive, and emotional borders by hosting its first convention in Canada, the ACPA Governing
Board, 2016 Planning Team, and International Office have embraced their collective and individual responsibilities of addressing the opportunities
and challenges presented by this historic moment in time. Inequities, injustices, and intolerances within communities and nations continue to require
attention and advocacy, and the ACPA 2016 Convention provides a rare opportunity to engage in these discussions and debates with colleagues
from around the globe. While at ACPA 2016, we ask that you stretch to engage in meaningful discourse on topics and issues that will increase your
expertise and specialty AND those who are uncomfortable and unfamiliar. The complex issues of our time require us to be not only broadly informed,
but also deeply committed. Following convention, we also ask you to take these conversations back to your campus, colleagues, and organizations
to share your learning and reflections with those who experienced limited ability, access, or privilege preventing travel to Montréal this week.
This incredible and historic convention would not be possible without the talents and time given by the ACPA 2016 Convention Planning Team.
Please join us in congratulating this team on their amazing accomplishments and in thanking them for their service to the profession of higher/
tertiary education. We are so grateful for their leadership, and you will experience their extraordinary efforts this week in what will surely be an ACPA
Convention to remember.
