St. Basil’s Sadochok
The program has just begun for the year. It is not too late to register
your child for this amazing program. All classes are lovingly taught by
Sr. Petronella and sponsored by St. Basil’s UCWLC.
The 3 year old program runs Wednesdays from 9:30 - 11:30 am. The
4 year old program runs Tuesdays and Thursday 9:30 - 11:30 am, all in
the Cultural Centre. Children need to be toilet trained. The program runs
from September to May.
Children will be introduced to the Ukrainian language and our
Ukrainian Catholic traditions. All are welcome - parishioners and nonparishioners

Award Opportunities for 2012 - 2013
The Ukrainian Resource and Development Centre (URDC) at Grant
MacEwan University is offering four (4) award opportunities (value of
$500 to $1,000) to students and to the general community for the 2012 -
2013 academic year. Application deadline is November 30, 2012.
The following awards are being offered:
The Alberta Council for the Ukrainian Arts Award ($500) is
offered annually for a project that fosters a greater awareness of
Ukrainian art in Alberta. This project may be in the form of an exhibit,
tour, festival, educational program, or special project.
The Roman Soltykewych Music Scholarship ($500) is available to
applicants (individual or group) determined to pursue further studies in
the field of Ukrainian choral or vocal music.
The Anna Pidruchney Award for New Writers ($1,000) is available
annually to a novice writer for a work on a Ukrainian Canadian theme.
Submissions for this year’s award must be in English. Previous
recipients of this award are not eligible.
The William and Mary Kostash Award for Media Arts ($1,000) is
being offered for a project which promotes Ukrainian Canadian identity
through the medium of film, video or multimedia.

Christmas Gifts for Ukraine!
It's that time of year again and we are relying on your generosity to
ensure a happier Christmas for many children who are much in need.
This year we are asking for monetary donations only, as we have a
backlog of shoeboxes and it is very costly to ship them. Donations over

Religious Radio Program “VECHIRNYA HODYNA”
The Religious Radio Program “Vechirnya Hodyna” airs every
Sunday evening at 6:30 pm on WorldFM 101.7
Would you be interested in sponsoring a program? Cost/program is
$176.00. When sponsoring a program, it may be done for birthdays,
anniversaries, in memory of a loved one, etc. Please make cheques
payable to: St. Basil’s Ukrainian Catholic Parish (income tax receipts
will be issued).
The Cross
A young man was at the end of his rope, seeing no way out, he
dropped to his knees in prayer “Lord, I can't go on,” he said. “I have too
heavy a cross to bear.”
The Lord replied, “My son, if you can't bear its weight, just place your
cross inside this room. Then, open that other door and pick out any cross
you wish.” The man was filled with relief and said, “Thank you Lord,”
and he did as he was told.
Upon entering the other room, he saw many crosses; some so large the
tops were not visible. Then, he spotted a tiny cross leaning against a far
wall. “I'd like that one, Lord,” he whispered. The Lord replied, “My son,
that is the cross you just brought in.”
When life's problems seem overwhelming, it helps to look around and
see what other people are coping with. You may consider yourself far
