Chairman Message<br />

On behalf of the organizing committee, I would like to welcome all<br />

participants to the HCT 2016 Symposium. The theme of this Symposium is<br />

“Human Capital Trends in the Maritime and Logistics in the GCC – Challenges<br />

and Opportunities”. This event will serve as a platform for networking,<br />

exchange of ideas and collaborations.<br />

Renowned local and international speakers from industry and academia will<br />

share their views and experiences on a range of topics with relevance to the<br />

theme of the Symposium. The issues that will be addressed include human<br />

capital capacity building, future trends, policy and regulatory matters related<br />

to maritime and logistics education and training within the GCC. This event<br />

promises to hold a great value for all in attendance.<br />

The GCC Logistics and Maritime Symposium brings together policy makers, industry experts, educators and researchers<br />

to present and discuss the future trends, challenges and opportunities in the Logistics and maritime sector. This<br />

one day symposium will feature prominent speakers from various industries addressing topical issues. The issues<br />

that will be addressed include human capital capacity building, future trends, policy and regulatory matters related to<br />

maritime and logistics education and training. Around 400 attendees are expected to attend this symposium including<br />

high-ranking government officials, policy makers, CEOs, directors, managers and researchers.<br />

Key Objectives<br />

1.Provide opportunity for stakeholder dialogue to promote creative solutions to the challenges facing the logistics<br />

and maritime industry in terms of human capital.<br />

2.Promote collaboration between educators and industry experts.<br />

3.Bring together industry experts to present the challenges and the opportunities in the logistics and maritime<br />

industry in the GCC.

the STC Group from the Netherlands, the International<br />

Maritime College Oman (IMCO) offers diploma, Master<br />

IMCO is white listed and fully credited by the Ministry of<br />

Transport and Communication to issue STCW certificates or<br />

certificates of proficiency.

Dr. Hilal Ali Al Hadrami<br />

Chief Executive Officer, Oman LNG<br />

Harib Al Kitani joined Oman LNG as CEO on 1st August, 2012. He comes with a rich experience and a strong background<br />

in the LNG business having first worked at Oman LNG as Deputy Manager, Marketing, in 1995. He soon became the<br />

company’s Marketing and Shipping Manager, strengthening its position in key markets of Korea and Japan and initiating<br />

Oman LNG’s cargo swapping and diversion with different parties in the global liquefied natural gas trade. Thus bringing<br />

more value to its shareholders. Al Kitani was later moved to Shell International in London, where for three years he worked<br />

in various positions including LNG Global Business Adviser and Manager of Suape project in Brazil. Prior to re-joining<br />

Oman LNG, he had held the position of President and CEO of Qalhat LNG since October 2004. There, he successfully led<br />

the company to become an internationally recognised brand with many achievements.<br />

Mr. André Toet<br />

Chief Executive Officer<br />

Sohar Industrial Port Company<br />

After leaving the Maritime Institute ‘Willem Barentz’ (higher technical education level) Andre joined Nedlloyd Lines in 1986,<br />

where he worked for a number of years on the bridge as mate and nautical officer.<br />

After his sailing career he worked for several Nedlloyd Group subsidiaries in several countries in senior positions -<br />

Netherlands, Sudan, Thailand and Hong Kong. After the merger of P&O Group.<br />

Subsequently after the take-over by Maersk became CEO of Maersk Central Europe. In 2008 he was appointed as COO<br />

of the Port of Rotterdam.<br />

As well as his role as CEO of Sohar Industrial Port Company, he also holds the position of Non-Executive Director of<br />

Electronic Shipping Solutions (ESS) Malta.<br />

Andre Toet is married, working and living in Oman, having two daughters (1992 ,1989).

Previous Work Experience - 32 years experience in the Oil and Gas industry working with Petroleum Development Oman<br />

(Shell ) the largest producer in Oman.<br />

Mr. Ahmed Al-Azkawi<br />

Acting CEO – Oman Logistics<br />

Company SAOC<br />

Ahmed is a highly qualified engineer with strong technical and commercial skills. He has held senior management<br />

positions in a multinational company in Oman and overseas. His experience includes project management, business<br />

opportunity maturation, leading project teams and managing stakeholders. Ahmed worked for Petroleum Development<br />

Oman, Aera Energy, California, the Supreme Council for Planning and is currently the acting CEO of Oman Logistics<br />

Company SAOC. He holds a BSc in Physics from Imperial College London and an MEng in PE from Heriot-Watt University,<br />

Edinburgh.<br />

Mr Tarik Mohamed Al Junaidi<br />

Chief Executive Officer<br />

Oman Shipping Company<br />

He was promoted to Deputy Chief Executive Officer in July 2010. Having joined OSC in 2005, his last role prior to this<br />

latest promotion was as Head of Commercial, including business development. Prior to that, he worked for HSBC, in<br />

Financial Planning and Global Enterprise looking after Sales and Marketing in Oman. In 2004, he completed an MBA from<br />

The University of Western Australia, after graduating from The Florida Atlantic University, USA with a BSc. in International<br />

Business & Marketing. He also holds a Certificate for Financial Advisors (CeFA) from The Institute of Financial Services,<br />

England.

One of the prominent figures Marketing Manager and Operations Interface Manager at Dolphin Energy Limited from<br />

2005 – 2002, he pioneered aggressive strategies that helped the company achieve some its most ambitious objectives.<br />

From 1993 to 2002, Ali bin Towaih was Terminal Superintendent at Emirates General Petroleum Corporation (EMARAT),<br />

where he supervised all terminal manpower and managed the petroleum terminal operations, including the first and only<br />

LPG project operations and terminals distribution for the company.<br />

Ali Bin Towaih was appointed on 10 April, 2005 as Director of the Sustainable Energy and Environment Division (SEED) at<br />

TECOM Investments, a member of Dubai Holding. His results-oriented performance saw him take over an additional<br />

mandate in 2007 as the Executive Director of ENPARK, a fully comprehensive eco-friendly community for commercial and<br />

residential use.<br />

Dr Abdelghani Benayoune<br />

Head of Applied Research<br />

Has a rich and diverse experience in industry and academia. He has practiced in North America, South East Asia and the<br />

Middle East and served a diverse mix of clients. Dr. Benayoune currently serves as the director of research in the International<br />

Maritime College Oman. He is responsible for setting up the Research Centre. Prior to this, he held various management<br />

positions including as a member of an executive team which established IMCO.<br />

He also worked as a senior consultant for The Achievement Centre International and HRSG. His role involved designing and<br />

delivering Human Capital consulting solutions to address client’s business challenges. He also led various leadership<br />

development initiatives and Competency-Based Framework projects for various companies. Another important side of his<br />

work is not-for-profit. Dr. Benayoune currently serves on the board of two not-for-profit organizations in Canada.
