SKAGIT VALLEy CASINo RESoRT; BoW, WA
Plenty to do at the Skagit
By Kristine Fields coming. Just last month we had the
The Skagit Casino Resort has
been bringing you amazing entertainment
for many years now. Thanks to
the hardworking and talented marketing
and entertainment coordinator,
Daina Bussing, the fun just keeps on
Crackdown
Continued from page 5
Organizations” such as ASCAP, BMI
and SESAC only represent the rights
of the song writers and publishers, but
do not extend to the karaoke sound
recordings themselves. If the karaoke
operators that you hire are using illegal
karaoke products of any sort, then
you are at risk of being named in a
contributory or vicarious (third party)
lawsuit for copyright infringement if
you knowingly use their services.
There are two basic approaches
in addressing this problem, both
of which endeavor to keep illegal
karaoke products out of your establishment.
One approach would be to
establish an in-house anti-piracy program
which would of course require a
certain amount of maintenance and
monitoring on a regular basis. Another
approach is to become a member
of the KIAA agreeing to use KIAA
member karaoke operators wherever
possible, and thereby virtually free-
privilege of seeing two of America’s
funniest comedians, Adam Ferrara
and John Reep, also known as the
Hemi guy. The show itself was hilarious,
I hadn’t laughed that hard since
last year’s Seattle International Comedy
competition. Speaking of which,
this year the Skagit will be hosting the
competition again on November 20th
in the Pacific Showroom. Remember
that once you’ve gotten your free club
card at The Skagit, you can always get
10% off all tickets to Pacific Showroom
concerts and events.
Other events to mark your calendars
for at The Skagit this year
are: September 24th, $10,000 Skagit
Karaoke Awards karaoke finals show.
8pm-midnight, no charge to come
watch some great local talent!
Rocktoberfest October 2nd, sponsored
by KZOK’s Spike, featuring the
classic rock hits AC/DC-style band
Adam Ferrara keeps the crowd in stitches during a night of comedy at the Skagit
ing you from exposure to lawsuits
from karaoke labels, by shifting the
responsibility and legal burden onto
the karaoke operator where it rightfully
belongs.
Membership in the KIAA is easy
and inexpensive ($100.00 per year)
and is your best insurance against the
potential consequences of an abovementioned
third party lawsuit, which
can be financially devastating. You
can complete your membership online
at www.thekiaa.org or you can contact
a KIAA representative at (302) 351-
3500 for further assistance. Our sole
purpose however is to eliminate piracy
on all levels, so even if you choose not
to become a member of the KIAA and
instead take the in-house approach,
the KIAA will assist you in any way it
can with your anti-piracy program.
The fun continues in October
with Northwest comedian Kermet
Apio and the band Survivor. If you
know the song “The Eye of the Tiger”
then you know who this 80’s band is!
You’re not going to want to miss this
classic show!
December 4th, you’ll enjoy Sawyer
Brown’s Christmas show, showcasing
some great Christmas music along with
their most beloved country songs.
And if you’re looking for some
memorable times this New Year’s Eve,
we highly recommend hanging out
with Garratt Wilkin and the Parrotheads,
a Jimmy Buffett style tribute
band that always leaves you wishing
it would never end.
With all that goes on at The
Skagit, you’d be crazy not to take
advantage of the cozy venue and the
amazing prices they offer. See you
at The Skagit soon! Check out other
upcoming events at theskagit.com.
