12 September 2009 - www.nwkaraokeguide.net “Hey, I’m on the radio!” You, on Nisqually Radio?! Have you dreamed of being on the radio? Nisqually Radio is playing the original music of local artists, 24 hours a day, across the internet, worldwide, since November 2008. We welcome all musicians to submit their original music to play in our broadcasts. We will include a photo, blurb, and link to you or your band from our Musicians page. A recent milestone was our 10,000th visitor on Memorial Day, and by the end of that day, an additional 189 visitors. We are continuing to reach new listeners as word spreads. Our staff of mostly volunteers should grow during the next year as we are applying for grant monies to expand our operations. Our advertising pool is also growing, fueled by super-incredible ad rates. We not only stream audio commercia ls worldwide, but also add our sponsors to our businesses and services Web site directory. Our goal is to be a hub for community, musicians, artists and business to connect with the public and each other. We publish a blog, a community events calendar, bulletin board, cookbook, and have links to many community resources. Local, talented individuals and karaoke singers are welcome and encouraged to volunteer as voice-ins for commercials, weather, public service announcements, etc., ...for the experience, education and exposure it may Karaoke Corner Continued from cover page more of an honor. The summer still has more fun the month of September of course, with the Puyallup Fair, featuring great names like Heart, James Taylor, Wynonna, Leanne Rimes, Ne-Yo, Crosby-Stills and Nash, Jason Aldean and Julianne Hough with Rodney Atkins. With big name acts like these, you'd be a fool not to go and "Do the Puyallup!" The Skagit County Fair held their first ever karaoke event, including a big give them. If you have "The Voice" and want to learn and be heard, contact us and volunteer today! (You never know who might be listening.) For musicians, we have links and contacts with big name industry giants such as Vestman Mastering (who masters audio recording for top name a r tists such as Sting and Snoop Dog). We provideconnect i o n s w i t h numerous recording studios throughout the N W and are currently putting together our own studio. We are selling T-shirts and seeking donations to help us grow and develop into the mainstream, joining with all the local chamber of commerce's, having office space, creating advanced media, and offering employment to local individuals in the community. The Skagit Casino Resort, also in the throes of summer, put on a gigantic $10,000.00 cash karaoke contest, which will be wrapping up on September 24th in the beautiful Pacific Showroom. There's still time to get in on the action and get some of that cash if you've got mad karaoke skills. Qualifying rounds every Thursday 8pm-midnight in the Winner's Lounge. If you're looking for a great show and some fun times, we highly recommend heading up north to The Skagit and watch the finals battle it out for the money! Prizes will be awarded in each of the following categories: Best male pop, best male country, best female pop, best female country, best overall performance both male and female, best duet or group and best costumes. Costume prizes are $500 top male, $500 top female. All other categories are $1000 each! The Tulalip Casino featured several great acts over the summer too, including Melissa Etheridge and Al Green and the Doobie Brothers. Cabaret featured acts include a Journey Tribute band, a ZZ Top tribute band, and some local favorites like the Spazmatics. Other places around the area held summertime karaoke contests; the Colgate Country Showdown Regionals, several "Idol" contests, and the Karaoke World Championships out of the Hula Hula, If you check out the back page of this issue, and every issue you will find out where to go if you're looking for something great to do! Everything DIAMoND JIM’S REST & LoUNGE; FEDERAL WAy, WA Host change at Diamond Jim’s That infamous karaoke house in the heart of Federal Way has made yet another change at the hosting position recently. Now you can sing with Scotty every Friday and Saturday night, and Mina every Wednesday and Thursday. Scotty has been hosting in the area for 14 years and has a way of bringing in the masses. Since he’s begun at Diamond Jim’s, they’ve had several record-breaking nights, according to Kelly, their #1 bartender. Mina is just a doll, and sings like an angel apparently. She’s also been well received at Diamond Jim’s since her debut last month. The audience and karaoke fanatics at Diamond Jim’s are diehards. they know what they like and they show up regularly, like clockwork. Come out and introduce yourself to Scotty and Mina this week! in life can always be improved on, and this publication is no exception. If the karaoke operators that you hire are using illegal karaoke products of any sort, then you are at risk of being named in a contributory or vicarious (third party) lawsuit for copyright infringement if you knowingly use their services. There are two basic approaches in addressing this problem, both of which endeavor to keep illegal karaoke products out of your establishment. One approach would be to establish an in-house anti-piracy program which would of course require a certain amount of maintenance and monitoring on a regular basis. Another approach is to become a member of the KIAA agreeing to use KIAA member karaoke operators wherever possible, and thereby virtually free- privilege of seeing two of America’s funniest comedians, Adam Ferrara and John Reep, also known as the Hemi guy. The show itself was hilarious, I hadn’t laughed that hard since last year’s Seattle International Comedy competition. Speaking of which, this year the Skagit will be hosting the competition again on November 20th in the Pacific Showroom. Remember that once you’ve gotten your free club card at The Skagit, you can always get 10% off all tickets to Pacific Showroom concerts and events.
