From the President
\
A Year of Mercy
APope Francis launched the Jubilee Year of Mercy
on December 8. He asked Catholics to welcome
God and his merciful grace and to bring mercy
We are asked to help meet the physical needs of
our neighbors by
Feeding the hungry
Giving drink to the thirsty
Clothing the naked
Sheltering the homeless
Visiting the sick
Visiting the imprisoned
Burying the dead
Additionally, we are called to meet the spiritual
needs of others by
Instructing the ignorant
Counseling the doubtful
Correcting sinners
Bearing wrongs patiently
Forgiving offenses willingly
Comforting the afflicted
Praying for the living and the dead
Jan Rhorer Breen ’69
to others as we walk the different paths in our
lives. He is inviting each of us to spend the next
year with mercy as a focal point of our spirituality.
“This extraordinary year is a gift of grace and
a way to rediscover the infinite mercy of the
Father,” Pope Francis said. “Let us put mercy
before judgment in our daily living.”
As we are called to show mercy, we are reminded
of the corporal and spiritual works of mercy that
are a guide to help us grow and share God’s love.
As we have been shown mercy by God, we
are called to be merciful to each other – to be
ministers of mercy. The Latin word for mercy,
misericordia, means “a heart which gives itself to
those in misery.” May we be ministers of mercy
and never tire of extending mercy and offering
compassion and comfort.
In the Merchant of Venice, William Shakespeare
writes, “the quality of mercy is not strained …. is
twice bless’d: it blesseth him who gives and him
who takes.”
We are blessed with many opportunities to give
to others: to make sandwiches to feed the hungry
each Tuesday, to volunteer our time at the soup
kitchen, participate in food drives and to prepare
a meal for someone who is sick or for a family
who is suffering from loss, to name a few. These
works of mercy are ways to live out God’s love.
We show loving kindness and compassion to people.
4 . SJA Connections

\
From the President
Each day, give yourself one small goal of mercy. Possibly, you can give drink to the thirsty by helping
a neighbor who thirsts for someone to sit and talk with her, or you can help a parent who is seeking
compassion and understanding as she works with her special needs child.
Mercy is love in action, and there is no better way to put our love into action than to visit the sick and
share with them our love. We will grow in the virtue of compassion and know that we have made a
difference in someone’s life. A smile, a hug, the gift of your presence – all are very powerful and healing to
those who feel isolated or forgotten.
As we live the corporal and spiritual works of mercy in our daily lives, we are called to comfort the
afflicted. Let people know that they matter, that their pain matters. They need to see understanding, void
of judgment.
Be a carrier of hope. Offer the gift of your presence. Sit silently alongside a person. Slow down enough to
notice the pain in someone’s eyes. Your comforting presence may be a life-changing moment.
Each work of mercy is a manifestation of the love of God and of the love each person is called first to
receive and then to give. God’s mercy is transformative. Let mercy accompany us on every step of our
life’s journey.
May this year be an invitation to love, kindness and generosity, and may it be a year of grace from the Lord.
Holly Randow
With a degree in physical
education from Purdue
University in hand, Holly Young
moved to Baton Rouge in 1979
to be closer to the man she
loved and hoped to marry, Glen
Randow. Sister Joan Laplace,
SJA’s principal at the time, hired
the young teacher to teach
physical education and coach
the cross country and track and field teams.
Holly happily accepted the offer of employment
but wondered how, as a volleyball and basketball
coach and former player, she would coach two
sports she knew little about.
Luckily, the Randows’ across-the-street neighbor
knew a little about the two sports to which she’d
been assigned. Pete Boudreaux was the cross
country and track and field coach at Catholic
High School. Holly spent many an evening in
Pete and Pat Boudreaux’s kitchen, throwing
plates like a discus, jumping chairs like a hurdler
and picking Coach Boudreaux’s brain for
practice plans, competition strategies and secrets
to his success.
Holly would coach cross country and track
and field from 1979 until 1987, missing the
1982 track season with a health issue. Her cross
country teams brought home state championship
trophies in 1983 and 1985 and were state
runners-up in 1980 and 1986.
In 1988, Holly left SJA to devote full-time
attention to the silkscreen business she and Glen
started. She went to work at LSU in its Short
Courses and Conferences division, then made
her way back into the education field, teaching
physical education at Our Lady of Mercy.
In 1991, Principal Sister Judith Brun called
Holly to gauge her interest in returning to SJA.
An incoming freshman wanted to play golf, but
the school didn’t have a golf program. “Would
you be willing to come back and establish a golf
team?” was Sister Judith’s question. Holly readily
accepted and worked with incoming freshman
Jennifer Abernathy to field SJA’s first golf team.
Jennifer went on to play collegiate golf at LSU.
For the next 21 years, Holly would lead SJA’s
golf program and teach physical education. Her
teams enjoyed tremendous success, winning
three state championships (2000, 2007 and 2008)
and finishing as state runners-up four times
(2004, 2005, 2006 and 2009). Among her most
memorable stretches was 2007-2009, when her
teams won two titles and finished second once.
Her assistant coach was Gretchen Balhoff ’05,
a four-year letter winner who started out as a
freshman golfer having never picked up a club.
Holly retired from coaching in 2011 to care
for her ailing mother. She continues to teach
physical education at SJA and stays busy with the
silkscreen business.
“I never felt the pressure to win,” Holly says of
her coaching career. “My goal was for the girls
to work hard, improve and have fun. It is most
important to enjoy the sport and let the wins
take care of themselves.”
Wren Eversberg Eagleton ’89
Wren started her swimming career
as a year-round swimmer when she
was 7 years of age. She continued to
swim year round until the age of 15,
when she competed strictly on the
high school level. She discovered her
love of running when she joined the
cross country team in the fall of her
freshman year at St. Joseph’s Academy.
In the fall of her freshman year, Wren was
one of the top 10 runners in the state and was
named to the All-Parish Cross Country Team.
In the spring, she participated in swimming and
track and field, winning a state championship
in the indoor 3,000 meter run, a first place in
the 400 meter freestyle relay and state top 10
awards for the 200 and 500 freestyle. While she
enjoyed great competitive success, she was also
diagnosed with asthma.
As a sophomore, Wren participated in cross
country and swimming but sat out the track
season to attempt to avoid problems with her
asthma. She received the SJA Coach’s Award for
cross country and placed fourth in the 500 free,
fifth in the 200 free and first in the 400 freestyle
relay at the state swim meet. She was named
SJA’s most valuble swimmer and the All-Parish
team’s most improved swimmer.
As a junior, Wren won the cross country district
and state championships and she was named
SJA’s most valuable runner. She was also named
MVP of the All-Parish team. She participated
in both swimming and track in the spring,
recording fifth-place finishes in the 200 and
500 freestyle and third place in the 400 freestyle
relay in the city meet. In track, she won the
3,000 meter indoor state title and most of her
outdoor 3,200 meter races. She finished third
in the state meet at 3,200 meters. She
was also named to the All-Parish
track team for 1988.
As a senior, Wren had an undefeated
cross country season, culminating
with a state championship. She
was named MVP of the All-Parish
team and Star of Stars by the State
Times. She was also awarded a
Schering Foundation Scholarship,
which honored five top athletes with asthma in
the nation and allowed her to meet President
George Bush. In swimming, Wren finished third
in the 200 and 500 freestyle in the city meet and
first in the 400 freestyle relay. In her final track
season, she won the indoor title at 3,000 meters
and the outdoor state title for 3,200 meters. She
was named to the All-State track team.
Wren went on to Texas A&M University, where
she joined the cross country and track teams and
graduated with a bachelor of science. She also
attended the University of Florida and earned an
MHS in occupational therapy in 1996.
Today, she is an occupational therapist with
Triton Healthcare, the current chairman of
St. Aloysius Home and School Association,
a former president of the medical alliance, a
sustaining member of the Junior League, an
active member of St. Aloysius Church and a
manager for the Baton Rouge Soccer Club. She
has competed in three marathons and numerous
half marathons. She and her husband, Dr.
Bernard Eagleton, have three children, Anna
Camille, Ben and Elliott, who all attend St.
Aloysius School.
Leigh Ann King ’06
Leigh Ann King’s first memories of swimming
date back to when she was 6 years old, taking
lessons at a neighborhood pool. She remembers
being confused as to why her
sister hated the lessons. To
Leigh Ann, swimming was
nothing short of fun.
When she was 8, Leigh Ann’s
mother insisted she join a
summer league team to help
burn off some “excess energy.”
While she initially balked at
the prospect of early morning
practice sessions, she quickly
discovered that training was enjoyable and that
swimming came naturally. She was soon winning
races and, at the age of 12, joined the Crawfish
Aquatics year-round team.
As a member of Crawfish Aquatics, Leigh Ann
received two Don Cook Memorial Awards. She
held records in the 50, 100 and 200 free. In four
state meets, she scored more points than any
other female swimmer.
As a swimmer at St. Joseph’s Academy, Leigh
Ann helped lead her teams to three state
championships and one runner-up finish. She
was named SJA’s Outstanding Sprinter all four
years and received the Most Valuable Swimmer
Award three years.
As a member of SJA relay teams, Leigh Ann
competed in 16 different events at the City and
State championship meets. Her relay teams
finished first 15 times and second once. At one
time, her relay teams held two city and two state
meet records.
As an individual, Leigh Ann swam 58 different
times. She won 51 times. She was the four-time
City Meet and three-time State Meet champion
in the 50 free. Her State Meet record time of
23.11, set in November of 2005, stands to this day.
In the 100 free, Leigh Ann was undefeated
over four years, capturing the City and State
championships at that distance three times.
Leigh Ann was named the City Championship
Swimmer of the Meet and State Championship
Swimmer of the Meet three times, was a fourtime
All-Metro Team honoree and has four
All-American Consideration times and eight
Automatic All-American times to her credit.
She was named The Advocate’s Star of Stars for
Swimming in 2003, 2004 and 2005.
As a senior at SJA, Leigh Ann was the thirdfastest
high school female swimmer in the
country in the 50 free. Her times in the 50 and
100 free were better than any other female high
school swimmer in the country and all but six
male swimmers in the 50 free.
Leigh Ann swam on the Florida State University
swim team as a freshman before transferring
to LSU in 2007. She was named to the SEC
Academic Honor Roll in 2009 and 2010. She
earned three varsity letters at LSU.
Leigh Ann graduated from LSU in 2010 with a
degree in public relations and became certified as
an elementary teacher in 2012. She is now in her
third year teaching second grade at Wildwood
Elementary in Baton Rouge.
S
Louis Curet has established The Sister Isabel
Gosserand Scholarship in the SJA Foundation.
Mr. Curet created the scholarship in memory of
his beloved aunt, a Sister of St. Joseph for more
than 60 years.
Sister Isabel Gosserand Scholarship Established
Born Mary Isabel “Belle” Gosserand on
November 26, 1892, Sr. Isabel entered the order
of the Sisters of St. Joseph in December of 1913.
She made her final profession on August 22,
1918. She attended Sacred Heart Convent at
Convent, Louisiana, and Loyola University in
New Orleans. She taught kindergarten for nearly
35 years at St. Joseph Academies in New Roads,
New Orleans, Charenton and Baton Rouge.
In addition to her ministry in education, Sr.
Isabel was passionate about serving the poor, sick
and disenfranchised. She enjoyed gardening and
visiting with friends. She was personable, known
for her “way with children,” keen sense of humor
and jovial, informal manner. She was also a firm
disciplinarian who was beloved by generations of
youngsters. She actively served the Congregation
until her unexpected death on April 20, 1976.
“She was quite a person,” Mr. Curet said. “People
were always bringing toys and monetary gifts
to her. She was a ‘magnet’ for these kinds of
donations. She gave the toys to the orphans and
used the money to help those in need.”
Mr. Louis Curet established The Sister Isabel Gosserand Scholarship in memory of his beloved aunt. He is pictured
A life-sized bronze statue of Sr. Isabel pulling two small children in a
wagon was dedicated on September 30, 2004. The children were modeled
on images of two kindergarten students taught by Sr. Isabel, Dr. Peterman
Prosser and Linda Kron Marchand.
The sculptural work, located between St. Joseph and Medaille halls on the
SJA campus, was created by artist Aaron Hussey. Mr. Curet remembers
the image with great fondness. “It wasn’t uncommon to see her shuffling
across campus with the little red wagon in tow,” he said. “It wasn’t always
filled with children, however. It was often filled with things that she had
collected or been given and that she was going to distribute.”
Mr. Curet’s daughter, Jeanne Curet James, is a 1975 graduate of St.
Joseph’s Academy. She remembers visiting with her great aunt most
Sundays after mass. “We would visit in the convent parlor,” Mrs. James
said. “When we were getting ready to leave, she would always bend down
and tell me, ‘There is room upstairs,’ letting me know that if I wanted to join the convent, she’d be happy to
have me.”
Sister Isabel Gosserand
Mrs. James recalled the story of a young Sister Ursula
Harelson and her Thanksgiving assignment of cooking
three turkeys. “Sr. Ursula was very nervous about this
responsibility and kept checking on the cooking process,”
she said. “All turned out well, and after they finished
cooking, she set them on the kitchen counter to cool.
When she went back to the kitchen to check again, one of
the turkeys was gone. She panicked, then discovered that
Sr. Isabel had taken it and was headed to the home of a
family with many children to feed.”
The Sister Isabel Gosserand Scholarship represents her
spirit and, like the sculpture in her likeness, will be a
permanent reminder of her life in service to others.
On November 28, approximately 250 of an
estimated 350 descendants of Andrea Scafide
and Francesca Loiacano gathered in Bay St.
Louis, Mississippi, for a family reunion. With
dozens of graduates from St. Joseph Academies
in Baton Rouge, New Orleans and Bay St. Louis
on hand, the reunion also celebrated the family’s
generational commitment to Catholic education
stretching from 1900 until present day.
Scafide Family Hosts Reunion
“Our grandparents/great-grandparents, Andrea
and Francesca Scafide, certainly valued and
worked hard to bless and instill in our family
the gift of God, faith, family and education,”
said family member Sharron Burns Buchart.
“In addition, we cannot forget how the Sisters
of St. Joseph made this difficult journey to
this faraway land to establish schools and the
integral role they have played within our family
history. Now, six generations later, the fruits of
our grandparents’ desire to pass on the Catholic
faith and tradition is reflected in us all. Catholic
education is a gift for life.”
Andrea and Francesca emigrated from Sicily
as teenagers with their families. They arrived
at the port of New Orleans in June of 1892,
but because of the yellow fever epidemic
there, they were rerouted to the port in
Donaldsonville, Louisiana.
family’s clothes as well as the shrouds for the
Bay’s Italian community.
Through hard work, Andrea acquired property,
became a successful entrepreneur and built
the family home with concrete blocks he made
from molds. (They were later used to build the
stadium at St. Stanislaus College.) Andrea and
Francesca operated a grocery and dry goods
store and ice cream parlor from the ground level
of their house. Francesca made the ice cream.
They also owned a construction company and
a farm with a pecan orchard known as one of
the best in the region. Andrea sold pecans and
produce from New Orleans to Chicago. Family
holdings also included rental properties, and
Andrea was known for his compassion when
renters couldn’t pay.
Family member Nan Murtagh reported the
reunion committee met in January for postcelebration
discussions. “We don’t get much
done but sure have fun,” she said.
In 1896, Andrea and Francesca were married
at the Ascension of Our Lord Catholic
Church in Donaldsonville, then moved to
Bay St. Louis. There, they lived at the convent
of the Sisters of St. Joseph until their first
child was born. Andrea served as the Sisters’
groundskeeper and maintenance man and
helped tend the vegetable garden. Francesca
washed and ironed their habits, sewed priest
vestments and sewed and maintained the
church’s liturgical items. She made all her
G
Taylor Chustz, a 2007 St. Joseph’s Academy
graduate, is working with Exponential
Education, a non-governmental organization in
Ghana. Her primary focus is directing a girls’
leadership program.
Graduate Working with Girls’ Leadership
Program in Ghana
As program associate last year, Taylor led a
yearlong course of study for second-year, female
high school students in the village of Antoa,
located outside of Kumasi. The program, which
accepts 20-30 girls through an application
process, focuses on leadership, mentoring
and service.
Taylor also works with Level Up Village,
an organization that
helps bring science,
technology, engineering
and mathematics (STEM)
courses to schools in
developing countries.
“My goal is to have all the
schools and students in my
village gain some level of
understanding of the STEM
fields,” she said. “I want
them all to be exposed to
STEM and realize they can
have a future in those areas
even if they come from a
low-income community in
rural Ghana.”
As a student at St. Joseph’s
Academy, Taylor was a paid
student technician in the
school’s student-run Help
Desk, believed to be the first
of its kind at an all-girls’
school. That experience, as
well as her involvement with
the Amnesty International
Taylor Chustz ’07, center, is working in Ghana,
helping young girls develop leadership skills. She is
pictured here with the Antoa junior high students
who participated in mentoring sessions with senior
high girls.
chapter on campus, pushed her towards a
service-oriented career, she said.
“In the Help Desk, we did many community
service projects that helped spark a passion
for education, service and technology for
the rest of my life,” Taylor said. “[Technology
faculty member and Help Desk Director] John
Richardson was and is still a great teacher who
believes in educating women. At a young age,
seeing that passion made me want to pursue that
field. My time at SJA was a time to help me test
boundaries and ask questions. I was fortunate
enough to have faculty, staff and friends who
thought that was a good idea.”
After spending the
Christmas holidays with
family in Baton Rouge,
Taylor returned to Ghana
and assumed the role of
senior program manager
with Exponential Education.
She will be in Ghana for at
least another year, helping
create additional leadership
programs and partnerships
for young women.
“Working in the field in
Ghana has been amazing,
and I truly enjoy the
experiences and relationships
I have gained here,” she said.
“I still have a desire to return
to the United States and
work in education, but right
now, my future is open. After
this year, who knows? Life is
an adventure.”
Angela DiVincenti Babin, a 1998 graduate of St.
Joseph’s Academy, has always thrown parties. As
a student at SJA, Angela loved to host after-dance
get-togethers. “I’d make up any excuse to have
a bunch of people at my house,” she said. “My
mom is a Southern homemaker and big party
thrower. I learned mostly from her.”
But she quickly found the rigid routine to be
unappealing. “I am creative and spontaneous and
over the top,” she said. “I like to mix it up every day.”
Angela moved to Dallas, working several years at
Park Place Bentley. She returned to Baton Rouge
and spent time at The Lod Cook Hotel on LSU’s
campus, then became a kindergarten teacher
in the local public school system. When she
married Daniel Babin in 2011, she knew it was
time to get off the career merry-go-round and
pursue her dream career: event planning.
“I have always wanted to own my own business
and create fabulous events,” she said. “I knew
that if I ever had the opportunity, I was going to
go for it. My husband has always supported my
dream, and I am very fortunate to have a spouse
who has allowed me to do so.”
Angela Marie Events is a full-service planning
company that styles, plans and coordinates any
event. Weddings are Angela’s focus, though
she enjoys the occasional children’s party or
corporate event. “I always tell my clients: The
whole point of hiring me is so you can enjoy
your time being the hostess and not have to
worry about a thing,” she said.
Angela DiVincenti Babin, SJA class of 1998,
garnered the cover of Christmas at Home, a
magazine for Southern Living’s Christmas Special
Collectors’ Edition. The cover features a Christmas
tree and mantel she designed with a variety of plaids.
After graduating in 2002 from Louisiana
Angela had worked with Southern Living on
previous occasions, serving as a stylist on photo
shoots in the Baton Rouge and New Orleans
areas. When an editor remembered that she had
experience decorating Christmas trees, the editor
contacted her. “She emailed me out of the blue
and asked for some Christmas pictures from
past work I had done,” Angela said. “I had no
idea why and didn’t want to ask, so I emailed her
some pictures, and that was that. Weeks later, I
heard back and was told I was chosen as one of
that each would be up for the front cover. I was speechless.”
Like all photo shoots, the Christmas assignment presented unique challenges. Primarily, Angela was
scrambling to find a very tall Christmas tree on the 4th of July. “My neighbors probably thought we were
losing our minds,” Angela recalled with a laugh. “We had a real tree in the garage, an artificial one set up
in the front window of our house and then issued a desperate cry for a simple gold star on facebook only
hours before the shoot.”
The shoot came off without a hitch, and Angela was thrilled with the results, featuring her Ralph Laureninspired
design with plaids and antlers with a touch of berries and pine cones. “It was exciting beyond
words,” she said.
When Angela and Daniel aren’t busy with their careers, they love to entertain. “I am always looking for an
excuse to have a party,” Angela said.
Celebrations are in the near future, as well. Angela and Daniel will welcome their first baby in April. “We
are super excited for him to be here, though of course he is making his debut in the middle of wedding
season,” Angela said. “But I wouldn’t expect anything less.”
Sizzling Summer 2016 2016
Girls in grades 4 through 8 will enjoy an exciting array of enrichment opportunities in
academics, athletics and the arts during Sizzling Summer 2016.
Plans are now under way for a fun-filled summer program on SJA’s beautiful, safe
Annual Fund
A
Every year, St. Joseph’s Academy asks our
alumnae, parents, faculty/staff and friends
to invest in our mission of “educating young
women as responsible and unifying members of
the world community” with a gift to the Annual
Fund. Our goal this year is a simple one: to
raise 4.1 percent of our yearly operating budget
through the Annual Fund. Our benefactors have
responded! To date, we have raised 2.86 percent
of our annual budget and project we will reach
that goal well before the end of our fiscal year
on June 30, 2016. Below is how we are achieving
that success by constituency:
Annual Fund Projected to Reach Goal
Faculty/Staff: 100% gave $20,000
Parents: 55% have given $237,626
Alumnae: 8% have given $64,711
young women who will carry on the SJA
tradition dating back to 1868 of serving our dear
neighbor. Our students know the importance
of helping others by witnessing our alumnae,
parents, friends, faculty and staff give of
themselves. Thank you.
All gifts to the Annual Fund have an enormous
impact on SJA’s ability to enhance its standards
of excellence in teaching, student development
and facilities. Annual gifts fuel the success of
this school and touch every aspect of our
students’ experience.
Specifically, a gift to the Annual Fund will:
• Enable SJA to recruit and retain the highest
caliber of teachers who serve as role models for
our students;
• Contribute to the cutting-edge technology, lab
equipment and other state-of-the-art learning
presence in their lives through a dynamic faith
development program;
• Offer students the opportunity to uncover
hidden talents through our fine arts offerings;
• Ensure that SJA continues its winning athletic
tradition;
• Give students an extraordinary and enriching
experience – the SJA experience – that they will
treasure for a lifetime.
St. Joseph’s Academy alumnae, parents and
friends know firsthand the transforming power
of an Academy education. Consider sharing that
gift with others. Those who financially support
SJA uphold the spirit of philanthropy that has
sustained this school since its founding. Your
generosity, leadership and faith in our mission
helps St. Joseph’s Academy flourish year after year.
St. Joseph’s Academy faculty members were
challenged by Principal Michele Lambert to
redesign an existing space to create a 21stcentury
classroom. Each academic department
was charged with creating student-centered
spaces that would allow for collaboration and
project-based learning as well as independent work.
Faculty Challenged to Create 21st Century Classrooms
The departments were asked to imagine a
comfortable space where students could easily
rearrange furniture, access ample writing space
and use task-appropriate technology. Faculty
members presented their concepts at the school’s
professional development meeting on October
21. The social studies and foreign language
departments submitted the winning designs and
were each awarded $10,000 to bring their ideas
to fruition.
The redesign challenge
is part of SJA’s
initiative to establish
an Innovation and
Design Lab to open
in August of 2016.
The new lab will
offer cutting-edge,
project-based learning
to equip young
women for success in
college and the 21stcentury
workplace.
The Innovation and
Design model helps
students develop
critical-thinking,
collaboration, creating
and problem-solving
skills. In the lab, they
will design projects
to solve real-world
problems and impact
their communities, taking learning beyond
the classroom.
The Innovation and Design Lab will be the
link between SJA’s recently established Andrea
Clesi McMakin ’74 STEM Lab and the global
community. Students will learn to both think
and do, said Amy Perrin, SJA’s director of
Innovation and Design. “We were overwhelmed
by the enthusiasm brought to this challenge
by every department,” she said. “The faculty
put so much time and effort into researching
21st-century learning and collaborating on the
redesign. It was incredibly difficult to choose
only two winners.”
The Innovation and Design Lab will be located
on the first floor of Medaille Hall. Renovations
will begin at the end of the semester.
St. Joseph’s Academy has established Charism
in Action, a new organization designed to help
students better understand and promote the
charism of the Sisters of St. Joseph. The group’s
first meeting was held November 3 in the Chapel
at SJA.
SJA Creates Charism in Action Group
Students heard from Sister Adele Lambert,
former SJA president, about the history and
charism of the Sisters. Also speaking to the group
were Dr. Greg and Mrs. Debbie (Kleinpeter ’77)
administration to join students from sister
schools in Cleveland, Ohio, and LaGrange Park,
Illinois, for the weeklong conference.
Charism in Action is open to any SJA student
who wants to enjoy a closer relationship with
the Sisters; gain a better understanding of their
charitable work and love of the dear neighbor;
work in unity to carry out the Sisters’ ideals; and
be part of an organization that may serve as a
precursor to becoming an Associate, which they
must be 18 to pursue.
Ten members of Charism in Action will be
selected to participate in next summer’s CSJ/SSJ
Student Leadership Conference, to be held in
Kansas City, Missouri.
