Like Sudoku, no single number can<br />
repeat in any row or column. But...<br />
rows and columns are divided by black<br />
squares into compartments. <strong>The</strong>se<br />
need to be filled in with numbers that<br />
complete a ‘straight’. A straight is a set<br />
of numbers with no gaps but can be in<br />
any order, eg [4,2,3,5]. Clues in black<br />
cells remove that number as an option<br />
in that row and column, and are not part<br />
of any straight. Glance at the solution to<br />
see how ‘straights’ are formed.<br />

BITS AND PIECES<br />
It’s good to hear that Little Sam Lyons has<br />
been voted favourite comedy vocalist in the<br />
North Midlands magazine “<strong>The</strong> Entertainer”.<br />
Sometime member of the duo Freshly<br />
Squeezed, this hard working little lassie is a real<br />
tonic to watch, guaranteed to light up even the<br />
gloomiest day. She’s so versatile and has that<br />
quality of coming to terms with an audience almost<br />
as soon as she steps on stage.<br />
A few years ago young Lucas Primmer created<br />
quite a stir when he came on the South Yorkshire<br />
scene with his superb singing voice.<br />
Things didn’t seem to go so well for him for a<br />
Alan Fox comedian from the North<br />
East, well known in South Yorkshire<br />
at one time.<br />
while, but now, with a<br />
name change to Luke<br />
Peters he’s back on<br />
the scene under the guidance of John SfVan, intent on<br />
making a name for himself. I think he will.<br />
I remember Peter Sarsfield when he first began as a<br />
vocalist. He came on by leaps and bounds, probably<br />
helped by his father, Paddy Sarsfield , a retired performer<br />
well known in North Manchester. If Paddy was in the<br />
audience his son would get him up on stage to sing a Julie Allison Doncaster<br />
number and then ask for a vote on who was the best. As Artiste and Journalist.<br />
expected, all hands went up for Paddy. <strong>The</strong>n Peter<br />
developed a very serious throat complaint and it was touch and go whether he<br />
would ever sing again.. He won through, and is currently around with a creditable<br />
tribute to Frankie Valli.<br />
HAPPY FAMILIES<br />
Very popular these days is the versatile<br />
and remarkably talented set of<br />
family members called Beardsmith.<br />
Family acts are nothing new. At one<br />
time there were the Kobaks, from<br />
which came the dynamic Lizzie Mac.<br />
