Within this unit, one Detective oversees<br />
coordination <strong>of</strong> all Sex Offender Checks within<br />
the <strong>City</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Sarasota</strong> and another is assigned to the<br />
Central Florida Internet Crimes Against Children<br />
and FBI Child Exploitation Task Forces.<br />
Specially trained detectives serve as members <strong>of</strong> the<br />
Florida Department <strong>of</strong> Law Enforcement Child<br />
Abduction Response Team (CART) Region 6 in<br />
Fort Myers.<br />
PROPERTY CRIMES UNIT<br />
The Property Crimes Unit has one Sergeant, five<br />
detectives and one civilian investigative aid. The<br />
Property Crimes Unit investigated 675 cases in 2015.<br />
Of those, 524 were felony cases which yielded<br />
143 arrests. These included high pr<strong>of</strong>ile cases<br />
listed as burglary, grand theft, dealing in stolen<br />
property, identify theft and other types <strong>of</strong><br />
economic crimes.<br />
VICE/NARCOTICS UNIT<br />
The Vice/Narcotics Unit has the primary<br />
responsibility for the investigation <strong>of</strong> street level and<br />
mid and upper level drug traffickers and<br />
smugglers. The Vice/Narcotics Unit also is primarily<br />
responsible for the investigation <strong>of</strong> pharmaceutical<br />
diversion crimes in the <strong>City</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Sarasota</strong>.<br />
The Nuisance Abatement Program is dedicated<br />
to investigating both commercial and residential<br />
properties suspected <strong>of</strong> being involved in the<br />
use and sale <strong>of</strong> drugs, prostitution, gang activity or<br />
dealing in stolen property. Properties involved in the<br />
activities are cited and referred to the Nuisance<br />
Abatement Board. This Board has the legal authority<br />
to force landlords and property owners to abate such<br />
nuisances and impose civil penalties.<br />
