Internal Affairs<br />
The Internal Affairs Section is staffed with one<br />
Lieutenant and one Sergeant. The section receives<br />
and documents all internal and external inquiries<br />
and complaints. They thoroughly and fairly<br />
investigate all Administrative cases. Once<br />
completed, they provide recommendations and<br />
possible disciplinary actions to the Chief.<br />
The Section utilizes programs to randomly<br />
select employees for drug screening and monitor<br />
employees with the Early Intervention System.<br />
Personnel within the section also provide requested<br />
documents in accordance with Public Records<br />
Law. In 2015, the section completed the following:<br />

Intelligence Unit<br />
The Intelligence Unit consists <strong>of</strong> two<br />
detectives and a Crime Analyst responsible<br />
for collecting and disseminating criminal<br />
intelligence information. The Detectives<br />
conduct investigations and maintain<br />
liaisons with other regional intelligence<br />
units in the State <strong>of</strong> Florida. In addition,<br />
they participate in the Regional District<br />
Six and F.B.I. Terrorism Task Forces.<br />
The Crime Analyst assists sworn personnel<br />
in identifying crime trends occurring in the<br />
community. Statistics are based on factors<br />
such as crime types, locations, dates and<br />
times, as well as suspect descriptions.<br />
The chart to the right shows Part 1 crimes<br />
have decreased by 7.3% in the <strong>City</strong> <strong>of</strong><br />
<strong>Sarasota</strong> . Over the past five years, the <strong>City</strong><br />
has seen a 28.1% decrease in crimes.<br />
