Naming of Prof. John Evans Atta Mills<br />

On September 30, <strong>2015</strong>, Prof. John Evans Atta<br />

Mills, a newly converted FPSO, was officially<br />

christened by Lady Sponsor, Her Excellency<br />

Mrs Lordina Mahama, First Lady of the Republic<br />

of Ghana.<br />

AROUND THE YARDS<br />

The ceremony, at Sembcorp Marine Tanjong Kling Yard, was attended<br />

by senior government ministers from Ghana, as well as senior<br />

management from MODEC Offshore Production Systems (Singapore),<br />

Tullow Oil and other companies involved in the project.<br />

Sembcorp Marine completed the repair, life extension and conversion<br />

of Prof. John Evans Atta Mills from a VLCC into an FPSO as part of the<br />

TEN Development Project. This marked a grand total of 22 conversion<br />

and upgrading projects for FPSOs and floaters that Sembcorp Marine<br />

has completed for regular customer MODEC.<br />

Prof. John Evans Atta Mills, a newly converted FPSO for Tullow Oil<br />

The TEN FPSO has a capacity of production and treatment of 80,000<br />

bpd of crude oil, 65,000 bpd of produced water, and 180 MMscfd<br />

of gas, with an onboard storage capacity of 1.7 million barrels. The<br />

facility will also provide 132,000 bpd of filtered, de-aerated seawater.<br />

Billion Dollar Contract<br />

from Heerema<br />

Following the signing of an exclusive letter-ofintent<br />

in March <strong>2015</strong>, Sembcorp Marine secured<br />

a US$1 billion Engineering and Construction<br />

contract with Heerema Offshore Services B.V.<br />

(HOS) to build a DP3 new semi-submersible crane<br />

vessel (NSCV) on July 15, <strong>2015</strong>.<br />

Scheduled for delivery in the<br />

fourth quarter of 2018, the NSCV<br />

is designed for the installation<br />

and decommissioning of major<br />

offshore facilities world-wide. It<br />

will be equipped with two Huisman<br />

heavy-lifting offshore cranes of<br />

10,000 MT lifting capacity each and<br />

a large reinforced work deck area.<br />

The 273,700 MT NSCV measuring<br />

220m x 102m, will be the largest dualfuel<br />

semi-submersible crane vessel<br />

Two Major Contracts Secured for<br />

Culzean Field Development<br />

Offshore Platforms Secures US$1 Billion EPC Contract with Maersk<br />

Sembcorp Marine Offshore Platforms secured a US$1 billion contract<br />

with Maersk Oil North Sea UK in September to build three topsides for<br />

their Culzean field development.<br />

Sembcorp Marine will provide the engineering, procurement and<br />

construction for the EPC contract, with core fabrication works done<br />

in the Admiralty Yard. Working alongside its Singapore counterpart,<br />

Sembmarine SLP in Lowesoft, UK, will undertake work for a power<br />

generation module, two bridges and a flare.<br />

Located East of Aberdeen in the UK North Sea, the Culzean gas field<br />

is expected to meet around 5 per cent of the UK’s gas demand in<br />

2020/21.<br />

Rigs & Floaters FSO Contract<br />

with MODEC<br />

In November <strong>2015</strong>, Sembcorp Marine Rigs & Floaters was awarded its<br />

first newbuild FSO, secured on a full turnkey project basis with repeat<br />

customer, MODEC.<br />

The FSO will be built using facilities at Tuas Boulevard Yard, where<br />

Sembcorp Marine is involved in the engineering, procurement,<br />

construction and commissioning (EPCC) of the project.<br />

MODEC will supply the internal turret and topside modules which<br />

Sembcorp Marine will install and integrate.<br />

When completed in the first quarter of 2018, the FSO unit will be<br />

deployed at Maersk Oil’s Culzean field – the largest new oil and gas<br />

field to be discovered in the UK North Sea in a decade.<br />

Setting New Industry Records for Vessel Repairs<br />

Highest Number of LNG Ship<br />

Repairs & Upgrades<br />

<strong>2015</strong> was an exceptional year for Sembcorp Marine Repairs &<br />

Upgrades.<br />

The Group rewrote its own industry record for the highest number of<br />

LNG vessel repair and upgrade projects in a single year. With 34 such<br />

projects in the global market, the company tops the list compiled by<br />

the Ship and Offshore Repair Journal for the fourth consecutive year.<br />

Sembcorp Marine’s customers included Shell International LNG<br />

Supply, Chevron Shipping and Teekay Gas Services. In 2014, Sembcorp<br />

Marine repaired and upgraded 32 LNG vessels, up from 27 in the<br />

previous year.<br />

SHIP REPAIRS<br />

Concurrent repair of two LNG vessels at Sembcorp Marine Admiralty Yard<br />

Record Set for Number of Cruise Ships<br />

Repaired and Refitted in <strong>2015</strong><br />

Sembcorp Marine successfully upgraded the Pacific Eden and the<br />

Pacific Aria at its Admiralty Yard. The concurrent drydocking of the<br />

two cruise vessels at the same shipyard was a first for its operator<br />

P&O Cruises (Australia), a long-term partner of Sembcorp Marine.<br />

With the sailaway of Pacific Aria in November <strong>2015</strong>, the Group set<br />

a record of 12 cruise ships repaired, upgraded and refurbished in a<br />

single year.<br />

Opening of Hull Workshop<br />

On November 3, <strong>2015</strong>, Sembcorp Marine<br />

launched its new state-of-the-art steel structure<br />

fabrication workshop — the largest of its kind in<br />

Southeast Asia.<br />

The 120,000 sqm facility operates with a streamlined process<br />

that optimises production efficiency and reduces man-hours and<br />

production time to half of previous process requirements for every<br />

tonne of steel fabricated. Ergonomically designed to facilitate a<br />

seamless work flow, the workshop comprises five bays for pretreatment,<br />

cutting and assembly.<br />

Housed in Phase II of the Sembcorp Marine Tuas Boulevard Yard, the<br />

facility will be the central kitchen for steel fabrication.<br />

WSH Awards <strong>2015</strong><br />

Sembcorp Marine’s yards continued to demonstrate excellence and commitment to workplace<br />

safety and health (WSH) by clinching a total of 29 honours at the <strong>2015</strong> WSH Awards.<br />

The annual WSH Awards celebrates the best in workplace safety<br />

and health; and recognises companies and individuals for their<br />

commitment and outstanding performance in WSH. Sembcorp<br />

Marine was amongst the honorees at the awards gala dinner, held<br />

at Resorts World Sentosa on July 29 and officiated by Minister for<br />

Manpower, Mr Lim Swee Say.<br />

These national level awards recognise various categories of WSH<br />

personnel and companies with innovative WSH solutions and<br />

excellent WSH performance. The WSH Performance Award lauds<br />

organisations that have performed well in WSH through the<br />

implementation of sound safety and health management systems<br />

or processes. The WSH Innovation Award is presented for efforts<br />

in providing innovative solutions to help improve safety and health<br />

standards in the workplace.<br />

The WSH Supervisor Award serves to honour supervisors who take<br />

care of workers under their charge by improving the safety and<br />

health performance in their workplaces. The Safety and Health Award<br />

Recognition for Projects (SHARP) category recognises projects with<br />

OTC Houston <strong>2015</strong><br />

Sembcorp Marine showcased its capabilities as a<br />

leader in integrated offshore and marine engineering<br />

solutions at the Offshore Technology Conference<br />

(OTC) <strong>2015</strong>.<br />

The annual event was held in Houston, USA, from <strong>May</strong> 4 to 7 at NRG Park.<br />

OTC is the world's foremost event for the development of offshore resources<br />

and showcases leading-edge technology for offshore drilling, exploration,<br />

production and environmental protection.<br />

In <strong>2015</strong>, almost 95,000 attendees from 130 countries gathered at the<br />

conference to participate in panel sessions as well as keynote and<br />

technical paper presentations. Speakers from international oil companies,<br />

governments and academic institutions presented views on salient<br />

topics including future industry directions, operational integrity and risk<br />

management. Almost half of this edition’s exhibitors were from international<br />

companies.<br />

Nor-Shipping <strong>2015</strong><br />

Sembcorp Marine further strengthened its<br />

international profile and business networks<br />

at Nor-Shipping <strong>2015</strong> from June 2 to 5, in Oslo,<br />

Norway.<br />

Over 32,000 delegates and visitors from approximately 80 countries<br />

attended the 50th edition of Nor-Shipping, which had over 990<br />

exhibiting companies and 20 national pavilions. The leading maritime<br />

event is a biennial weeklong exhibition and conference that provides<br />

the platform for the maritime world to explore forward-thinking<br />

initiatives. It showcases the latest and best in maritime technology,<br />

services and solutions; attracting the international maritime industry<br />

to Oslo.<br />

13 Singapore-based companies led by the Singapore Maritime<br />

Foundation (SMF) and the Association of Singapore Marine Industries<br />

Mr Lui Tuck Yew, and other distinguished visitors at the booth, which<br />

showcased its capabilities and facilities.<br />

On June 3 and 4, Sembcorp Marine hosted its customers and business<br />

partners at dinner and lunch receptions respectively, where the<br />

company provided insights into its future plans and developments.<br />

Sembcorp Marine was a main sponsor of the SMF-organised Singapore<br />

Nite, held on June 3, at the Hotel Continental. Among the luminaries<br />

present were Minister Lui and shipping magnate Mr John Fredriksen.<br />

At these series of events, participants and the international maritime<br />

community created new bonds and strengthened existing ones.<br />

Gastech <strong>2015</strong><br />

In October, Sembcorp Marine participated in the 28th<br />

edition of Gastech, the world’s largest global gas and<br />

LNG event.<br />

Held from October 27 to 30 at the Singapore EXPO, the leading oil and gas<br />

event was a meeting place for energy professionals across the globe. The<br />

conference and exhibition attracted 15,181 visitors and delegates across 49<br />

countries.<br />

Sembcorp Marine had a strong presence on home ground, showcasing its<br />

four key capabilities, its new Sembcorp Marine Tuas Boulevard Yard, as<br />

well as its latest innovation expertise. At the exhibition, Sembcorp Marine<br />

representatives kept themselves up-to-date with the latest market trends<br />

and technologies while promoting the Sembcorp Marine brand to industry<br />

partners and customers.<br />

Conclusion of EJA Dredging Activities<br />

Dredging activities in Sembcorp Marine’s yard in Brazil, Estaleiro Jurong Aracruz (EJA), were<br />

completed in August <strong>2015</strong>.<br />

During the dredging work, about 8.5 million cubic metres of<br />

material were moved to disposal locations that were chosen with<br />

consideration for the region's fishing community and in accordance<br />

with the environmental licensing agency. Among these locations was<br />

a special marine area wherein a marine organism reproduction area<br />

was specially created. All these served to bring social, ecological and<br />

infrastructural development to the community in the influenced<br />

areas.<br />

EJA at MEC Show <strong>2015</strong><br />

Estaleiro Jurong Aracruz (EJA) participated in the 8th Metal-mechanics, Energy and Automation<br />

(MEC) Show held from July 28 to 31, <strong>2015</strong>, at the Carapina Centro de Eventos in Vitória, Brazil.<br />

EJA showcased its capabilities at the exhibition and participated in<br />

business roundtable discussions organized by Sebrae, a governmental<br />

agency for the development of small business in Brazil. EJA’s Business<br />

Development Manager, Mr Cicero Grams, also made a presentation at<br />

the 4th Oil, Gas and Naval Industry Conference.<br />

This year, the MEC Show saw 17,800 visitors and 180 exhibitors in<br />

attendance. Held annually in the state of Espírito Santo, the fair is<br />

an important metal mechanics hub for the country. The MEC show<br />

brings together the latest technology in machinery, equipment and<br />

services as well as suppliers and buyers from the industry.<br />

Celebrating SG50<br />

On the 50th anniversary of Singapore’s independence, Sembcorp Marine was once again a proud<br />

participant and sponsor of this special edition of the National Day Parade (NDP). This year’s NDP<br />

took place at the Padang, a site of significance given its use as the location of Singapore’s very first<br />

NDP 50 years ago.<br />

Participating as a joint contingent with Sembcorp Marine’s parent company, Sembcorp Industries, the participants’ hard work and dedication<br />

paid off with their well-synchronised marching in front of thousands of spectators. The contingent was led by Contingent Commander<br />

Yam Ah Mee, Managing Director of Sembcorp Design & Construction, and Deputy Commander, Connie Lim, Vice President of Finance at<br />

Sembcorp Marine.<br />

As part of SPRING Singapore's SG50 activities, Sembcorp Marine<br />

was invited to participate in the travelling Singapore’s Economic<br />

Miracles exhibition organised by SPRING Singapore, which showcases<br />

Singapore's economic development story.<br />

Held from August 11 to September 13, the exhibition was launched by<br />

Mr Tan Chuan-Jin, Minister for Social and Family Development at its<br />

first location in Vivocity, before travelling to Changi Airport and Capitol<br />

Piazza. Economic Miracles aimed to capture the entrepreneurial spirit<br />

and contributions of local organisations like Sembcorp Marine.<br />

Sembcorp Marine’s Business Story<br />

As part of the SG50 activities organised by SPRING Singapore,<br />

EDB, and IE Singapore, Sembcorp Marine participated in the “Local<br />

Champions, Global Leaders” competition. The event aimed to inspire<br />

youths to connect with and learn more about the local companies<br />

which have contributed to Singapore’s economic achievements in the<br />

last five decades.<br />

SchoolBAG <strong>2015</strong><br />

Sembcorp Marine marked the 15th anniversary of its School Book Assistance Grant (SchoolBAG)<br />

programme, with $256,000 going to 1,250 primary, secondary and junior college students in <strong>2015</strong>.<br />

Over 17,500 students have benefited from SchoolBAG since 2001. The<br />

grants help subsidise the students’ school expenses or enrichment<br />

programmes.<br />

awarded cheques to the recipients from 85 schools at the presentation<br />

ceremony in Yishun Town Secondary School. Minister Tan said: “I<br />

would like to thank Sembcorp Marine for initiating and continuing<br />

with the SchoolBAG programme for the past 15 years. Such Corporate<br />

Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives are slowly helping to transform<br />

our society bit by bit.”<br />

and nation-building. We hope to lighten the financial<br />

burden of a group of needy students so that they can<br />

focus better on their studies and build a brighter future<br />
