Seven Sisters PERFORMERS cont.
GOD QUEEN
GOD QUEEN
God Queen is a non-profit collective of forward-thinking female artists
who decided they weren’t going to buy into the tall-poppy mentality or
compete with one another to be successful. Think along the lines of
Wu-Tang Clan. God Queen are a posse of individually strong artists
who have united to create a movement that impacts the world. Operating
more like a tribal community, they work together for the shared success
and mutual benefit of the tribe and the greater world they live
in. Sometimes feisty, heartbroken, sexy and even ugly, but always
self-determined.
KIRBANU
The Australian-born, German-based songwriter Kirbanu is excited to
be returning Down Under to promote her newest album, Drifting, and
to perform at the beautiful Seven Sisters Festival. An artist whose stage
presence is about creating an authentic, heartfelt connection with her
audience, and whose music is warm and emotionally rich, Kirbanu is
looking forward to sharing musical space with the women of Seven
Sisters. Combining folk elements with modern pop, this is an acoustic act
where skilled guitar play meets a powerful, touching voice carried on the
heart. Music to be felt, not just heard.
of stillness. She has unique training from psychology and audiology,
specialising in the neuroscience of our mind and senses. With over 16
KAISHA
KAISHA
Kaisha are an exciting up-and-coming band from the hills of Melbourne.
Forming as a trio in 2012, but with a collective musical history of 15
years behind them, Kaisha are a distinct fusion of Middle Eastern rock
and progressive, shamanic soundscapes. With diverse influences such as
The Tea Party, A Perfect Circle and Dead Can Dance, Kaisha are carving
out a unique sound previously unheard in the Australian music scene.
They are: Kaisha Hekimian on lead vocals, oud and twelve-string acoustic
guitar; Ivy Hekimian on keyboards, piano accordion and vocals; and
Djulz Chambers on djembe and darbuka.
LEANNE BUGAT
Leanne is an international, award-winning singer/songwriter/guitarist, originally
from Melbourne, but now residing in Perth, Western Australia. Leanne has been
captivating audiences with her voice, which has been described as sounding ‘like
honey’, while other listeners have experienced goose bumps. She has been writing
since her early 20s and has used her art as an outlet for emotional pain. Most people
can relate to Leanne’s music, as she writes in an honest style. She does this by using
others’ experiences or stories and makes them sound like her own, even though
they may or may not be! Leanne’s music is inspired by conversations, movies,
books, dreams, visions, love and loss. Leanne looks forward to sharing her music
at Seven Sisters Festival in March and spending some time in her hometown in the
Yarra Valley.
KATTIMONI SOUL SISTAS
Kattimoni is a powerhouse urban soul-mama vocalist arising in
the global Conscious Music Movement. She sings with vibrant and
energetic groove-based funk rhythms, inspired by reggae and hip hop
vibes. Presenting an all-female funk line-up, especially crafted for
SSF, Kattimoni showcases some of Melbourne’s most deadly soul sista
musicians. ‘Kattimoni’ means ‘to radiate light’ and her music offers a
message of hope and transformation, of rising up, overcoming adversity
and transcending limitations.
LITTLE WISE
What’s in a name? A lot, apparently. Whether by choice or by design,
Sophie Klein embodies the Yiddish/Germanic and Greek origins of her
name. This singer/songwriter is small in stature, but can tell a tall story
with the wisdom of an old soul. Her unique blend of folk-roots music
is both tender and gritty. Her vocals are wistful, feminine and perfectly
matched to her songs. Klein has returned to Asia and outback Australia
with a swag of carefully crafted new songs. She’s on the brink of releasing
her first full-length album, following her ‘Sweet Rain Falling’ and
‘Moments of Clarity’ EPs.
