INTRODUCTION
This project is designed with purpose to know a general background of linguistics form,
showing features and characteristics learned in the first studied period as the beginning
of a new knowledge for students in bachelor degree in English language , providing
essentials to involve the learners in abilities to keep developing their competences,
overcoming their weaknesses and transform in strengths in linguistic subject matter.
In another hand is considerable to know the study of the language as communication
express: feelings, thoughts, beliefs, etc. Although is differed by animal communications,
therefore human and animals are explained in different viewpoints. Also the morphology
and syntax studied is part of the linguistics goes joined with morphemes and phonemes
finishing with phonetics study. Hence here is presented a table of content with the
purpose to give contents including in the project homework, activities and personal
statements checked by teacher inside classroom. Linguistics is an important subject, here
its trying to show how linguistics can be useful in our future as a successfully person
practicing each content worked, supporting the idea in clear evidences that allow a good
understanding of each one activities explaining an easy development of a content without
any issue.
In spite of linguistics is a long branch, here it tries to summarize that all elements to be
more shorter in the meaningful teaching where are involved students and teacher as
teaching medium, being immediately the support which we as students, we have the hope
to get a major role inside classroom clarifying doubts in the right moment. The magazine
project includes main map, pictures and activities that are references to get better ideas
about this digital portfolio.
LINGUISTICS AS A WINDOW TO UNDERSTAND THE BRAIN
Steven pinker is the speaker who introduces the video who talk about of evolution of
language, he explores why language is a fundamental part of social relationship, human
biology and human evolution. He explains language is distinctive essential mysterious and
practicing. This world has 6,000 languages; while Charles tells that men have instinctive
tending to speak as children has a instinctive process of grammar phonology, semantic and
pragmatic. How is acquired, how is processed he explains that language are rules, words and
morphology. Chomsky’s contributions to the science as language is focus in creativity,
language have syntax unrelated to meaning in the other hand.
In conclusion there are many theories about human language the human properties are
characteristics of it and animals are past important in the language because not only people
can communicate among them, Animals can communicate through different kind of gestures,
for example dogs can communicate other dogs moving their body feet and heads that way
they transmit messages the other also there are evidences from studies, animals produce no
instinctive language and acquired an language of environment although some animal can
imitate that action or words human can do, this are not human characteristics .
DESCRIPTIVE ESSAY
There are many reasons to begin to talk about all learning I have gotten; Linguistics
is a nice and important subject for me, because is essential part of my career and I
consider that the linguistics study its has helped me like person. In this first period of
this semester I have learned, what is language? and how going to growing the
function of human communication, distinguish between human and animals
differences. The first one , (displacement, arbitrariness, productivity, cultural
transmission and duality) combination of time, present, past and future , instead
animals use another way, they produce sound as communication , including
Linguistics as a window to understand the brain is the second content that complete
my learning, the speaker explains point by point the language functions. My learning
is involved around of majority subjects that need more dedications, efforts and skills
of the content with an exact vocabulary to give accurate answers, I think each
person is overcome by own means and during the study I know there are classmates
with a good and bad level in the skill of a second language, but that is good because
that they are inspired to try to improve in different areas of your life to become an
excellent professional as University promote.
For another hand the phonemes syllable and phonological process are important
part already is the beginning to understand the morphology related with phonology,
producing correct sounds of each word. The subject pretends to teach all syntactic
and morphological elements with type of phrases to give a better understanding of
the subject. At the beginning of the course I had some weakness as human
communications and identify allophone and phonemes, when a sound is aspirated
and another is unaspirated , when a word is become a coinage , borrowing
,blending, compounding , today that weakness become strengths for my academic
area and I understand their uses. All this have come to step up my knowledge
because I have acquired new terms and vocabulary for my academic development.
26

A result linguistics provides the ability to write correctly, express ideas, produce
critical thinking , the freedom open your mind and take study habits, the principal
tools all students we need to develop us like futures professional with experience
and competencies that opens door toward success. Therefore if want to improve, I
need to practice and dedicate to spend my time in all that things will be important in
my personal life.
REFLECTIVE LEARNING QUESTIONS
What did you learn during this period?
I learned linguistics has different branches as : What is language, The Human Communicative
Language, backformations, phonology and Morphology
Did you give you best effort on this E-portfolio project?
I think yes I did.
Why? Because I gave 90% of my responsibility because of there are many subjects and
commitments to finish in my job, but if I just dedicate me to study , surely I would do an excellent
E-portfolio
Did this portfolio activity help you learn more than others we’ve done?
Yes
Why?
Because when I began my portfolio just I needed to remind each content to go completing step by
step my ideas
Did you come to class prepared to learn (in both your attitude and with all your supplies)?
I always come to class with enthusiasm because I want to learn new things I do not know, and
when I have a question ask Mr. Andrade
If you could do this assignments help you learn the most?
In my opinion I think is possible to learn because to help remind and practice new vocabulary
when you are writing a critical essay.
What do you believe the teacher could have done differently to help you learn lessons easier?
A group on face book to publish each assignment when a classmate does not can arrive to class
What’s one thing the teacher did during class that you really liked?
28

The videos about Human communication are assignment that all students like to see and after
provide comments about video inside class
How can you prove to the teacher that you master the contents from the first period?
In a little discussion inside classroom about different contents explaining step by step, maybe not
exactly as appears in pamphlet but if according of the studied contents.
