Message from Frank Arrojo
Chairman of the Board of Trustees
It was great to see so many of you at our Annual Open
Meeting on 28 November 2015. I found it an extremely
useful and productive meeting, and I hope those of
you who attended did as well.
Good progress continues to be made on placing the
Centre on a sustainable financial footing. But as our
latest published annual accounts for 2014/15 confirm the
Centre made a loss of over £94k, and so there is a lot of
work that needs to be done in attracting more clients to
the Centre and reducing the overall operating costs. If
you would like a copy of our latest published accounts
you can view these online via our website, and if you
would like a printed copy of our Summary report just ask
one of our members of staff.
Also, I would like to take this opportunity to make a
special mention of a former trustee, Mary Steele, who
stood down from the Board of Trustees earlier this year.
I thank Mary for the commitment and hard work she
showed on the Board especially during my time as Chair,
and am pleased that she will continue to support the
Centre through her involvement with the Friends.

As a result of Mary’s and my forthcoming departure as
a trustee the Centre is actively looking for new people
to join and strengthen the Board of Trustees, in order to
support the ongoing development and transformation
of the Centre. If you are interested in making a real
difference to the Centre please consider becoming a
trustee. Further details can be found on our website.
Finally, this is the last time I will be writing as Chair and
Trustee of the Centre. I am standing down from the
Board of Trustees on 2 March 2016, as I am devoting
more of my time to dementia research and national
initiatives to improve the lives of everyone affected by
dementia. I thank you all for the support you have shown
me during my time as Chair. I will still remain connected
with the Centre in a voluntary capacity. Also I am pleased
to report, in my final article, that the Centre now has a
realistic chance of securing a sustainable financial future.
As we all know nothing is guaranteed and a lot of hard
work still remains to be done, and I wish the Centre well
in its endeavours.
News from the Friends
Since the last Newsletter
we can report a great quiz
evening with 70 participants!
Don’t miss our next on Thursday
12th May at 7.15pm, at £6 a head.
It’s a splendid way to raise funds
for the Centre, to explore your
knowledge and enjoy some good
natured (usually!!) competition.
We would have liked to see more
buyers at our pre Christmas Sale
but those who supported us were
generous and the profit from the
two events reached nearly £1300
so thank you to everyone who
came!
We continue to fund the regular
Tai Chi sessions for the clients and
provide some of the ‘extras’ for
the Centre which are not within
budget. We do thank you for all
donations of goods which enable
us to do this, and we always make
use of everything by sale, auction
or ultimately recycling through our
usual company. We would prefer
not to take electrical items now for
safety reasons but everything else
will be put to good use!
Neil and the Friends are looking
to set up a Charity Shop which
would be another welcome outlet
for fund raising. Please continue
to bring in your items, particularly
any broken gold or silver jewellery
and good bric-a-brac.
On Saturday April 9th we shall be
holding a Jumble Sale from 1.00-
-4.00pm to sell items which are
saleable but have ‘hung fire’ in last
year’s Sales. Do come, and again
I would urge anyone with a little
time to spare to join our efforts
in arranging events. We should
