ALL SAINTS’ SUNDAY
This week’s gospel: John 11:32-44
Through the raising of Lazarus, Jesus offers the world a vision of the life to come, when
death and weeping will be no more.
On All Saints Day we celebrate the victory won for all the faithful dead, but we grieve for our
beloved dead as well, knowing the God honors our tears. We bring our grief to the table and
find there a foretaste of Isaiah’s feast to come.

BANNERS: White signifies gladness and joy in Christ. The Cross reminds us of the
supreme sacrifice offered by Jesus Christ for the sins of the world, His resurrection, and the
promise of eternal life. The Star is an emblem of Christ, “the bright and morning star.”
Saints of the World illustrates the festival that honors and remembers all Christian saints,
living and dead. Lutherans believe it is a day to glorify Jesus Christ who by His holy life and
death has made us saints, holy through baptism and faith.
NEWSLETTER reminder
This is a reminder that the newsletter publication process has been changed and approved
by the Church Council. In order to not provide redundant information and to make better use
of staff time, we are sharing news somewhat differently. On the first Friday of the month,
you will receive a full newsletter with the news submitted for that month. On the second and
third Fridays you will receive a short update highlighting only changes or new additions
to the schedule and important new announcements. On the final Friday, you will
receive short updates along with a reflection from Pr. Dave. With this change, the same
articles will no longer be printed in the newsletter for multiple weeks. If possible, announce
your event at the beginning of the month through the newsletter so members can make
notes on their personal calendars. In addition, use the church calendar posted on the church
website to keep informed of the “happenings” at the church. Our church website is
http://stpeterlutheran-nc.org/. Click on Calendar- there are two links for use. We hope this
new format of the newsletter will better utilize time and help focus congregational attention.

Brunswick County Sheriff’s office, who will tell us what is happening – what’s new- what to

STUDY BETWEEN SERVICES ON THOSE SUNDAYS. Sunday Bible Study will resume on
November 25 between services.
BOOK CLUB
The Book Club will meet on Tuesday, November 13 at 1:00 p.m. in the conference room.

NEW MEMBErs
There will be a New Members Inquiry class on Saturday, November 17 from 9:00 a.m. –
12:00 noon. New members will be welcomed into the Saint Peter Lutheran Church family on
Sunday, November 18 at the 8:30 a.m. service. We welcome friends and family who are
interested in being a part of the Saint Peter Lutheran Church family. We thank those
congregation members who have graciously agreed to be sponsors for New Members.

PUMPKIN BREAD SALE COMING NEXT SUNDAY
On Sunday, November 11, four churches of the Inter-Church Fellowship will join together for
the Fourth Annual Pumpkin Bread Fundraiser for the Food pantry. This year our church-wide
goal is to once again raise $3000, which will generate an additional $1,000 in supplemental
funds from Thrivent-Financial for Lutherans. As the economy continues to struggle and the
needs of the pantry continue to grow, we hope we can count on your support to reach our
goal. The bread will be priced at $6.00 for the regular size loaves and $3.00 for minis. It
freezes and refrigerates well and would make a great addition to your Thanksgiving table, or
as a hostess gift. Carol Schutt
mATTheW’S mINISTrY
Once again, your support in October for Matthew’s Ministry was amazing as 42 bottles of
shampoo for adults and children were collected. For November, the request will be for bars
of soap and body wash. The box for the donations will be inside the Parish Hall door. If
you should not be able to drop your donations on the first Sunday, the box is always in the
Parish Hall and donations can actually be made at any time during the month. Thank you
again for your support of this need.
HOW MUCH DO YOU KNOW ABOUT THE NEW TESTAMENT?
Come and hear Lee Steeneck’s presentation about the history of the Gospels – who wrote
them? Why didn’t they all report the identical events? Which texts made it into our Canon?
How did they survive over the millennia? Was the “oral tradition” properly coded? Are the
Greek and Latin translations accurate? Are they complete? Come and reacquaint yourselves
with the New Testament – God’s love story. FORUMS WILL BE HELD BOTH SUNDAYS

Thanks to all who participated in the Blood Drive this past week. We received 24 units of

Many thanks for a job well done. What we may have lacked in numbers (16) we made up for
in enthusiasm, with all designated tasks accomplished. Special thanks to the Doelp’s for a
delilcious lunch after our assignments had been completed (inside and outside).

AN OUTREACH COMMITTEE HAS BEEN NEWLY FORMED
The Saint Peter Church Council has voted to activate the Outreach Committee. This
committee is authorized by the constitution but not heretofore been put into action.
The Outreach Committee's purpose will be to act as the umbrella for the many social
outreach ministries here at Saint Peter; i.e., Matthews Ministry, Shoebox Ministry, Hunger
Walk, Meals on Wheels, and baked goods’ fund raisers.
Donna Woods has been appointed Chairman of the Outreach Committee and, as such, is now
a member of the church council. She will be working with members of the above ministries
and with her committee members together with guidance from Pastor Nelson in defining the
scope of this exciting ministry. Your input is welcomed. If you have an interest in joining this
ministry, please check this means of service on the new Time and Talents Survey. Please
keep this new venture in your prayers.

mISSIoN eNDoWmeNT fUND ALL SAINTS’ gIfT
Sunday, November 4 th is All Saints Day. As Lutherans, we believe in eternal life through the
Risen Lord. What better way to honor our saints than with a perpetual gift to the Saint Peter
Mission Endowment Fund? As you remember your friends and family who have joined the
Lord, please consider a memorial gift in their name. You will find a form in your church
mailbox to designate your gift. Mission Endowment envelopes can be found in the pews or
you can enclose your gift along with the designation form with your weekly contribution.
Please write Mission Endowment fund on the memo line of your endowment check.
“IN hIS grIP” goLf ToUrNAmeNT
“IN HIS GRIP” Golf Tournament will be held on Monday, November 12 at Carolina National
Golf Course in Winding River. Hamburger and hot dog buffet begins at noon, and there will
be a 1:00 p.m. shotgun start for the 9-hole event. At 3:30 p.m. Meredith Kirk, author Thy
Club and Thy Staff will speak. Ms. Kirk is a golf instructor and Christian counselor. The cost
is $45.00 per golfer or $180.00 per foursome. Ms. Kirk’s book will be on sale for $15.00

THRIVENT ELECTION NOVEMBER 11
The Cape Fear River Chapter of Thrivent for Lutherans will hold an election for 2013 officers
at the church on November 11. A table will be set up in the Narthex where you can cast your
ballot. Every associate and benefit member is encouraged to vote. You will also be asked to
fill out an interest form of ideas that will help the chapter plan for next year's activities.
Please participate in this effort. Thank you for your support over the years. Thrivent has
helped Saint Peter and the Food Pantry with supplemental funds from fund raisers like the
Pumpkin Bread sale.
Future events, on December 2 Beth Hales, our Financial Representative, will be here during
the forum hour to speak. Everyone- member or not is encouraged to come and get
acquainted.
CHURCH OFFICE CLOSED
The Church Office will be closed on Thursday, November 22 and Friday, November 23 for
Thanksgiving.
AGAPE KURE BEACH MINISTRIES
Upcoming events:
November 10 Hike- a-thon and Basket raffle at Camp Agape:hikers of all ages are
welcome. This fun day raises money for the Environmental Education program at Camp
Agape. Registration is 8:45 – 9:25 a.m
December 22 –O Holy Night will have three special worship times under the stars at the
Lakeside Chapel. $12.00 per person $45.00 Max per family. Enjoy food and fellowsihip while
remembering the Birth of Christ.
