Welcome Back
Principal’s Report
Welcome back to what promises to be
another very busy term. The Nameless
Festival is just around the corner, our Year
7s are looking forward to camp and Mrs
McGregor is working hard on organising the
cross country and athletics carnivals. We
will also be celebrating some special events
including Book Week and hosting some
special visitors including Paul Bray from the
ABC.
IPS (Independent Public
Schools)
I am very pleased to be able to announce
that our application to become an IPS was
successful. We were one of the 48 schools
selected from 141 Expressions of Interest
to commence as an IPS in 2013. I will be
attending the Official Launch and Minister’s
Reception today in Perth. The IPS initiative
honours the State Government’s key
election commitment to empower school
communities by giving them greater
capacity to shape the ethos, priorities and
direction of their school. I look forward to
sharing more information about the
flexibilities and autonomy available to us as
we prepare to become an IPS throughout
the remainder of 2012.
NAIDOC
Special thanks to Cecilia Fernandez, Joyce
Drummond, Cara and Abel from IBN for
joining us and helping us celebrate
Reading Eggs & Mathletics
It has been decided not to renew our
school’s subscription to the Reading Eggs
and Mathletics programs as student use
has declined significantly and the version of
flash player required to run these programs
is not compatible with our school network.
The P&C will reconsider funding our
subscriptions if the access issues can be
resolved. In the interim parents can
organise a private subscription for your
child/ren through the websites -
http://www.mathletics.com.au/ and
Constable Care Puppet Show
Constable Care visited us last Tuesday, 24 July.
Our Kindy to Year 3 students learnt about getting to
school safely while our Year 4 to 7 students learnt
about being safe in today’s cyber world.
RFDS Donation
Thank you to the families who donated money for
their children (with less than 90% attendance
throughout Term 2) to participate in the rock climbing
activity at the end of last term. The $162 raised has
been forwarded to RFDS.
National Self-Detection Program
for Scoliosis
Scoliosis (spinal curvature) is an important health
problem for adolescent girls and 25 per thousand are
at risk of developing a significant curve. Three girls
per thousand require active treatment (spinal brace
or surgery). Screening in the age range 11 to 13
years is a sound preventative health measure.
School screening has been abandoned but a self
detection program has been introduced as a
practical alternative. All Year 7 girls have received a
Scoliosis Self Detection brochure with today’s
newsletter and are encouraged to read and action
the information. For more information visit
www.scoliosis-australia.org
Please note that our school server is currently being
upgraded so staff have no access to computers or
emails. Consequently, please do not email urgent
enquiries or requests for assistance. We are hoping
that this process will be completed by mid next week.
Thank you for your patience during this time.
Thank you to all the parents and staff who helped
train our students for the Dockers’ Cup or were able
to attend to support on the day. Special thanks to Mr
Hutchinson, Mr Bateman, Mr Gordon, Mr Hughes,
Mrs McGregor, Mr Bilsby and Mrs Cole.
Semester 2 Student Councillors, Faction Captains and Vice Captains
Thank you to our Semester 1 Student Councillors, Faction Captains and Vice Captains. You have all done a
wonderful job during the first part of this year. Thank you also to all students who nominated for these positions. It
was great to see so many of you interested in leadership roles. Jake and Caitlin will continue as our Head Boy and
Head Girl for the rest of the year. Our new Semester 2 Student Councillors, Faction Captains and Vice Captains
were announced at Assembly on 5 July. Congratulations to the following students:
