OWNING VS. RENTING 

One of the most common objections that customers give when approached 

about purchasing their mats is that they rent them. Rental mats provide an 

obvious convenience factor for the customer, but there are issues to consider 

that purchasing may resolve. 

Why rental mats are bad for business 

A proper matting system removes up to 72% more combined dirt and water 

than rental matting, therefore reducing maintenace costs. 

Rental mats can be dangerous as corners are often prone to curl or they shift

Studies show that one square yard of comercial grade carpeting can accumulate one pound of dirt over a 

one week period and up to twice as much during inclement weather. It has been estimated that the cost 

of removing a single pound of dirt from a modern building will run in excess of $750.00. 

One of the most effective preventative maintenance daily cost saving measures that any facility can use is 

a quality entrance matting system, some times called the walk off mat. It's the first step toward effectively 

stopping the dirt at the door and keeping building maintenance cost under control. 

More and more businesses realize that a customer's first few steps into their building can have a profound 

effect on image, eye appeal and sales. An effective mat program can hide the dirt and moisture until such 

a time as it can be removed, presenting a clean uncluttered appearance throughout the day.

McCrann Cyrus warrants the Carpet System with the McCrann Cyrus 3000 product for five (5) years. This is a 

limited warranty. 

McCrann Cyrus warrants that from five (5) years from the date of original installation, these tray systems when 

installed and maintained as recommended by McCrann Cyrus, will retain 85% of their pile fiber, subject to the 

following conditions: 

This warranty does not cover tears, pulls, cuts, crushing, burns, damage due to abuse by any athletic equipment, such 

as roller skates, damage caused by chairs with roller coasters: damage due to the application of improper cleaning 

agents or maintenance methods; of deterioration in appearance not related to loss of pile fibers. If dissatisfied with 

wear performance, the owner must notify McCrann Cyrus and permit a fiber company to test the carpet. If testing 

shows the system has lost more than 15% of its pile fiber, then McCrann Cyrus will replace the warranted carpet in 

the affected room or area at its own expense, including installation. 

If the carpet is found to have lost 15% of its pile fiber, the worn area will, at our option be replaced with the new 

carpet of comparable quality from our current running line, or McCrann Cyrus will compensate you for the actual 

replacement cost of the yardage contained in the affected area. Replacement will include the cost of installation, 

materials and freight, other than the cost of removing equipment, furnishings, partitions and the like that may have 

been installed over the system since its original installation. 

The above Warranty and Remedy are in lieu of any other, expressed or implied, including warranties of 

merchantability and fitness for the particular purpose and remedies for incidental and consequential damage. 

(NOTE: Some states and provinces prohibit limitations or implied warranties, as well as, exclusive or limitation of 

incidental or consequential damages, so the above limitations may not apply to you. This warranty gives you specific 

legal rights, and you may also have other rights which vary from state to state; province to province. 

This limited warranty applies only to the original purchaser and installation site (s) and is not transferable. The 

remedies provided in this limited warranty are prorated over and terminate five (5) years from the date of original 

installation. This limited warranty shall only be effective provided that the tray system was originally installed and 

subsequently has been maintained in strict compliance with the procedures recommended by McCrann Cyrus 

Manufacturing. 

Except as set forth herein within the terms of this limited warranty, there are no other warranties by McCrann Cyrus 

Manufacturing, express or implied or otherwise created under any applicable law. McCrann Cyrus shall have no 

liability for any damages, incidental or consequential, resulting from the installation of this McCrann Cyrus product. 

The terms of and remedies available under this limited warranty can only be modified or extended if expressly 

authorized, in writing by an authorized representative of McCrann Cyrus Manufacturing.

PRODUCT MAINTENANCE - Cyrus 3000 

Your McCrann Cyrus Systems can be cleaned using standard carpet cleaning methods, however it should be done 

frequently as the purpose of the system is to stop dirt from going into the facility. A good cleaning program will not 

only extend the appearance of your system, but the general appearance of the facility as well. 

The following steps are recommended to help you get the best performance from your McCrann Cyrus System. 

1) Vacuum Daily It is calculated that 79% of all dirt is particulate. Vacuuming will remove this dirt the most 

effectively. 

2) Spot Removal A program of commercial spot removal will ensure the continuing good appearance of the 

entrance system. The majority of spots can be effectively removed if they are attended to in the first 24 hours. 

1) Hot Water Extraction Using a pre-spray and then hot water extraction will remove any dirt that the vacuuming 

can not. This includes oils and greases that will cause the carpet fibers to mat together. Steam cleaning should be 

done periodically as the need arises. *Please note that Engineered loop carpet must not be cleaned with circular 

brushes or Cimex machines. 

2) Clean the Edges The edge should be wiped down weekly using warm water. Sweep the dust and dirt from under 

the first couple inches around the outside edge of the tray. 

3) Cleaning Under the Carpet System If you plan on storing your system for the summer, you may find on the 

floor small bits of stronghold residue. This is a latex based product, and simply needs to be washed down with mild 

soap and warm water. 

A maintenance plan that is put into place and followed is the most important part in ensuring the ongoing 

appearance of the McCrann Cyrus System.

A carpet is best kept in place 12 months/year, however, if stored, please note the following recommendations. 

Installation: 

-floor must be clean 

-unroll and slide all modules on a sheet of poly to their intended position. Once all modules are in position, remove 

the poly sheet. 

Note: because of the non-slip membrane, installing without a slipping liner (like poly) can be arduous. 

Pick up: 

-clean carpet and allow to dry, flip over and apply a sheet of poly on blue non-slip material and roll on tubes. 

WHEN ROLLED, THE PILE WILL BE UP. Failure to do this may result in damage to your mats. 

Storage: 

-horizontally 

-clean, dry and roll pile up on 8” TUBES in a dry place on a clean floor. Do not stack. 

70% to 80% of dirt, dust and abrasives found in a building can be tracked to the entrances. Entryway carpets stop 

and hold dirt and water and prevent them from spreading further in the building on the floor, on all stories, 

furnishings, etc.. A regular maintenance program of this one area protects/prolongs the finish on floors and lightens 

the maintenance duties and costs in the rest of the building.

Limited Three (3) Year Abrasive Warranty: 

The manufacturer warrants indoor installations (over firm, flat, clean, smooth, hard surfaces, free of cracks or 

foreign substances, of wood, concrete, or vinyl) of the product against abrasive wear in properly installed and 

maintained installations for a period of three (3) years. Failure is defined as a loss of fibre due to abrasive wear of 

ten (10) percent of the pile-fibre in any given area. This warranty is for abrasive wear only, and does not cover 

burns, cuts, gouges, pilling, matting of pile, shedding, flattening of pile or pattern, staining, soiling, oiling, fading 

nor fibre loss due to abnormal usage. 

No warranty is extended for use of the products on stairs; in athletic play areas; or for the product which has been 

taken up from the location where it was originally installed and was reinstalled. 

The manufacturer will assume the cost of replacement products on a depreciating basis based on the replacement 

cost of the product. First Year, 100%; Second Year 50%; Third Year 25%.. Spots or spills should be cleaned within 

6 hours. Regular vacuuming or hosing with household detergent and water is usually the only cleaning necessary. 

However, occasional carpet shampooing methods, hot water extraction, or pressure washing is recommended.

The manufacturer warrants that during the specified period, the face fibres in this matting will not wear through to 

the point where the backing is exposed when subject to normal golf spike traffic, such as encountered in pro-shops 

and locker rooms, in properly installed and maintained glue-down installations. The golf spike warranty is for a 

period of three (3) years under normal conditions in indoor/outdoor use, but excepting pivot points or areas; stairs, 

and athletic playing areas. The manufacturer will assume the cost of replacement product on a depreciating basis 

based on the replacement cost of the product. First Year, 100%; Second Year 50%; Third Year 25%. 

Limitations of Warranty: 

In the event of a warranty claim established to the manufactures satisfaction, the manufacturer agrees, at it’s option, 

to repair or to replace the product out of current lines at the time of replacement or to refund (or partially refund) 

the invoice price. The manufacturer will assume the cost of replacement cost of the product on a depreciating basis 

based on the replacement cost of the product. 

The labour cost of removing and or/reinstalling replacement materials are to be borne by the purchaser. No liability 

will be assumed for any incidental or consequential damage, loss, or expense. No liability will be assumed for 

commercial shade variations or for material with visible defects after such materials have been installed, altered, 

cut, damaged, soiled or otherwise become unsaleable. 

All warranties start at the invoice date, and to process any claim under this warranty, submit a 12 inch by 12 inch 

sample of the failed product for laboratory evaluation together with a copy of the original invoice.

It is important to implement a routine carpet maintenance program to preserve and maintain your floorcovering and 

extend the life of your carpet investment. 

Daily Maintenance 

A good vacuuming program is essential to the success of your carpet maintenance efforts. Effective daily vacuuming 

reduces the frequency of periodic maintenance procedures required to maintain clean carpet. In addition to removing 

soil, vacuum cleaning also helps to lift and restore pile. Proper equipment and technique are critical to the success of 

the vacuuming program. 

The frequency of vacuuming is determined by visual inspection, but should be done daily. Heavy traffic areas such 

as lobbies, entryways and barrier mats may require more frequent vacuuming. Vacuuming these areas more than 

once per day will help prevent soil from being tracked in to other areas. For thorough cleaning, be sure your 

movements are slow and methodical when vacuuming.

construction with random pattern design utilizing two different size fibers. Areas of large diameter polypropylene fibers

Cleaning and Maintenance 3M 8850 

Vacuum daily. Use an upright beater-brush dry vacuum adjusted to its most powerful setting. Move nozzle slowly over mat to 

allow time for dirt to be picked up. 

In heavier traffic areas or at pivot points, rotate matting end for end when repositioning. 

Important: Keeping the backing of the mat clean is critical in minimizing the mat “walking”. Floor under mat must also be kept 

clean (swept and/or damp mopped underneath mat). 

Weekly Maintenance: 

1. Remove matting from service. 

2. Turn matting over and run beater bar, dry vacuum on back side of 

matting. 

3. Pick up matting. 

4. Clean up dirt/debris from floor (sweep, vacuum, damp mop, etc.) 

5. Place matting back in service and vacuum top surface of matting. 

Wet Conditions for Mats and Rolls: 

1. Use an extractor or wet vacuum to remove as much water as 

possible from mat. 

2. Allow mat to dry. Hang up if necessary. Use of fan or blower will 

reduce dry time. 

Restorative Maintenance: 

Frequency of restorative maintenance will depend on the amount of traffic and soil in the area of application. 

1. Wet matting with diluted solution of 3M! Carpet Pretreatment or 3M! Carpet Extraction Cleaner. 

2. Loosen dirt using a rotary brush. 

3. Extract at least two times. (If heavily soiled, repeating this 

procedure may be required.) 

4. Let mat dry. 

High Pressure Washer 

Use high pressure washer (i.e., at self-service car wash). 

1. Hang mat up. 

2. Wash mat thoroughly. 

3. Rinse mat thoroughly. 

4. Let mat dry.
