Cacaopera is a municipality in the department<br />

of Morazán , El Salvador . According to the<br />

official 2007 census, it has a population of 10,943<br />

inhabitants. The residents of this site are<br />

descendants of Kakawira or Cacaopera, ethnic<br />

group from Nicaragua. Around the year 1550 its<br />

population was 150 inhabitants. In 1770 it<br />

belonged to the parish of Osicala and in 1786<br />

the Party of Gotera. In 1824 it was annexed to San Miguel and since 1875 is<br />

part of Morazán.<br />

The municipality covers an area of 135.75 square kilometers and the head has<br />

an altitude of 520 meters. The name Ulua Cacaopera means "Huertas de<br />

Cacao". Part of their traditions include dances the Negritos and Feathered.<br />

Likewise, there are cultural centers such as the House of Culture, the colonial<br />

church built in 1660 and Winakirika Museum (which means "What our<br />

people"), part of the Network of Community Museums of America; there are<br />

also other natural attractions such as Cave La Koquinca.<br />

tour in the department. The festivities are held<br />

from 14 to 15 August in honor of the Virgen del<br />
