The population in a country increases with the number of births and in-migrations, while the number of deaths and outmigrations
reduces il The childbirth figures for one year are usually reported per thousand of the total population In the
last 265 years the childbirth figures have fluctuated between 35(1816, 1826 and 1859) and 12(1983) The periodic waves
described by Sundt and the sinking childbirth figures from 1880 to the 1930s and the rapid increase from 1942 to 1946,
can be clearly seen here The mortality rate has changed in the sense that the big peaks, the demographic crises are gone,
and from the beginning of the 19th century, the moriality rate has steadily declined until it levelled out in the 1950s
