The population in a country increases with the number of births and in-migrations, while the number of deaths and outmigrations<br />

reduces il The childbirth figures for one year are usually reported per thousand of the total population In the<br />

last 265 years the childbirth figures have fluctuated between 35(1816, 1826 and 1859) and 12(1983) The periodic waves<br />

described by Sundt and the sinking childbirth figures from 1880 to the 1930s and the rapid increase from 1942 to 1946,<br />

can be clearly seen here The mortality rate has changed in the sense that the big peaks, the demographic crises are gone,<br />

and from the beginning of the 19th century, the moriality rate has steadily declined until it levelled out in the 1950s
