RESIDENCE HALLS
THE INS &
OUTS OF
Our residence halls are true living/
learning communities. Each hall is a
comfortable, convenient, vital life center for
personal interaction with other students,
faculty and staff. The residence hall is
where students connect with new ideas and
differing opinions, attitudes and lifestyles.
The hall is where students form friendships
and build memories that last a lifetime.
McMindes Hall is co-ed by wing and
houses approximately 450 residents. It is
LIVINGON
The Residence Halls of Fort Hays State University
available to first-year and upper-division
students. The McMindes community is
intentionally designed to empower the
new student to
make a successful
intellectual and
social transition
to college life. The
for dynamic, relevant programming that
impacts life in the hall itself, across the
university campus and out into the Hays
Nut Fry. Wiest also features an active Hall Council
and is home to RHA, both of which provide a unique
STADIUM PLACE APARTMENTS
Stadium Place Apartments
Times are changing and so is on-campus
housing. With this mind, Fort Hays State
University, in concert
with Uniplace LLC, has
designed our newest
on-campus community
to better accommodate new students
while retaining all of the positive academic
Stadium Place Apartments offer
a student the ability to have his
or her own bedroom and share
a bath with only one
other person in either
a two- or four-bedroom apartment
setting. Stadium Place features the
convenience of a “one-stop-shop”
billing system that includes all of your
monthly bills in one single payment
through your TigerTracks Web account.
Each apartment is fully furnished,
including the
living room,
bedrooms,
dining area and
a fully accessorized kitchen right down
to the silverware. In light of the kitchen
facilities, meal plan participation for
Stadium Place residents is optional.
In addition to the other
furnishings, students enjoy the luxury of laundry
facilities within their apartments as well as
university maintenance, cable television and
high-speed wireless Internet.
Stadium Place is located directly west of Lewis
game day barbecues, commonly held by the
active community council.
The residents of Stadium
Place enjoy the independence
of apartment living
while maintaining the academic culture that only
doubt that Stadium Place is the premier offering
in on-campus housing in terms of its locale,
provisions and affordability.
YOU PICK OR POTLUCK
A common concern for incoming students is living with a
roommate. You have the option of selecting your own specific
roommate or having one assigned to you based on criteria you
provide on your application. For potluck assignments, we utilize
cutting-edge housing software that calculates your interests,
habits and preferences to determine ideal matches.
The choice is up to you!
Liz is a speech-language pathology
because she feels that she is treated
like a student, not just a number. She
recommends Stadium Place because
it has all of the social and academic
benefits of the residence halls.
A DAY IN THE LIFE
Bennie Burrell, a freshman and Tiger wide receiver from
Oklahoma City, OK, tells us how hall life works well for him…
8:30 a.m.: I wake up and head downstairs
to the McMindes Café where I join my friends for
breakfast. It’s nice being able to start the day
with good company, talking about what’s ahead.
9:30 a.m.: After fueling up, I go to my first
two classes. They are not my favorite subjects,
but the teachers keep it fun and interesting.
11:30 a.m.: After surviving algebra and
history, I get to have a bit of fun across campus
in personal wellness playing games and
getting some physical activity while
learning a lot, too.
12:30 a.m.:
I take a seat in psychology which
is my favorite class. Try to take
good notes, not just so I can do
good on the test, but because it so
interesting to learn!
1:30 p.m.: Back to McMindes
for lunch. Open Access makes
it easy to pop in and grab a bite
whenever I have time and I can
always count on people I know
being around to eat with.
3:00 p.m.: I grab my gear and head out for the
short walk to to meet the rest of my team for football
practice at Lewis Field Stadium.
5:00 p.m.: After practice, we hit the campus
gym in Cunningham Hall where we either lifts
weights or play a pick-up game of basketball.
7:00 p.m.: I head to the Black Student Union
meeting down in the McMindes Living Room. We
plan out our next big trip–Chicago–and
then head out on the town to bowl
a few lanes together.
10:00 p.m.: Back at the hall,
I stop by my friends’ room to play
video games or just relax and listen
to music a while before calling it a
night and heading back to my room to
crash and do it all again tomorrow!
Note from Bennie:
Living on campus is a great choice
for everyone. As an athlete it is nice
to be close to my teammates and it
makes for a short commute to and
from practices and the campus gym.
