How To Get Involved
Whatever your personal commitments,
there is a way for you to
get involved with the Jam & Justice
project. The three ways to
participate are: Becoming an ARC
practioner; becoming a friend of
the ARC; or joining the network.
We are looking to recruit 15 individuals
to join us in the ARC as
practitioner-researchers. ARC
members will receive a flat-rate
fee in recognition of their participation
in delivering the work
programme. ARC members will
co-design action research projects
in which they may also participate.
The ARC will spend nearly three
intensive years working together
and will need to function as a
team. We do not expect consensus
and it is important that differences
and tensions can be recognised
and valued but channelled
in such a way as to allow decisions
to be made. So it’s important we
get to know each other as best as
Join the ARC
possible. We have a clear set of
values and would hope members
share our passions and interests
for productive working in sometimes
difficult boundary spaces in
the city. We also have to answer
our research questions around
co-production and urban governance,
so the skills and knowledge
that people have to contribute will
matter.
All of these concerns shape our recruitment
process. The approach
has been designed to maximise
encourage self-selection based
on mutual awareness and interest.
There are three steps to getting
involved.
RAISING AWARENESS: MAY-JULY
ASSESSING MUTUAL FIT: JUNE-JULY
APPLICATION: JULY-SEPT
2016
Stage 1: Raising Awareness
This will involve an Open Evening
on the 13 th May to raise awareness
about the project and launch the
recruitment process. This will
Stage 2: Assessing Mutual Fit
Selection is a two-way process
requiring a mutual assessment of
fit between the project co-investigators
and potential participants.
This will done through three ARC
Labs that will focus on research
Stage 3: Application & Selection
A formal call for participation will
be launched in July. There will be
no automatic inclusions or exclusions,
nor sampling according to
quotas or personal characteristics.
be an opportunity to learn more
about the project and what would
be involved in participation.
design, along with social events
and open hours where potential
applicants can drop in and discuss
issues with the Jam & Justice
team.
Rather, the Jam and Justice team
will make choices that fit with the
aims and objectives of the research
project.
WHAT DOES AN ARC PARTICIPANT DO?
We know where we’re starting
from - but it’s up to the ARC to
decide where it wants to go. To
this end, we’ve ensured that the
ARC will be well resourced. We’ve
got a fund to run the 10 ARC projects,
along with further resources
to cover the public events, manifesto
and Scottish field-trip. Furthermore,
all ARC practioners will
receive a fee for their role in their
ARC.
Analysis &
Learning
Full ARC participation is not for
everyone. It requires time and
commitment for quite an extended
period. You might just want to
come to project continuity days,
seminars or support the ARC on
a more occasional basis through
Be a Friend
volunteering, resources or information.
Once the ARC is up and
running, we will be developing a
friendship scheme for those wishing
to work alongside, but not in,
the ARC.
Join the Network
You might just want to keep in
touch. The ARC will have a small
budget to support its communications
and networking so that people
can follow what it is doing. In
the meantime, you can follow @
jamandjustice or jamandjustice@
gmail.com to join the network.
