for Keyboard (Savary)
Cassadó Suite for Solo Cello
(La Marca)
Martinů Duo No. 1 for Violin and Cello,
H.157 (Liebeck, Brendel)
This is a rare chance to hear all of
the Trio Dali musicians in solo mode.
Amandine Savary recently recorded
Bach’s Toccatas to great acclaim, one
of which opens the concert. Christian
Pierre La Marca performs Gaspar
Cassadó’s extrovert solo suite, written
in the 1920s. And violinist Jack Liebeck
joins forces with Adrian Brendel
for Martinů’s eccentric and rarely
performed duo for violin and cello.
Trio Dali
“...three young players
with plenty to say and
the most compelling
manner of saying it.”
Roger Smalley Trio (1991)
Schubert Trio in B flat major, Op. 99
(D.898)
Trio Dali formed in 2006, winning
several major prizes that established
the group on the concert scene. Their
recordings of Schubert, and most
recently of Mendelssohn trio’s have
been universally praised. They perform
from these recordings alongside a piece
by Anglo-Australian composer, pianist
and conductor Roger Smalley (1943-
2015). Having studied with Boulez and
Stockhausen in the 1960s, Smalley
developed a truly original musical voice
that wasn't afraid to experiment. His Trio
of 1991 is a case in point, one of three
works based on the mazurkas of Chopin.
