Right alongside Hall 5, the carpentry
crew supervised by Jens Schönrich has set up
an ultra-modern carpentry workshop, including
sanding machinery and the latest in
CAD-controlled saws and milling units. The
52-year-old master carpenter is well-experienced
in special modification solutions and
top-quality materials such as wood, carbon
and mineral plastics. Over the course of his
career, he has always taken on truly special
artisanal challenges – whether for the exclusive
building of sauna landscapes or the interior
design of yachts and cruisers. “Furnishing
these coaches requires experience and
great craftsman skills”, ascertains Schönrich.
“Obviously, merely the perfect front of kitchen
and cupboard elements is visible at first.
The nooks, crannies and complex structures
where pipes and cables are lined up and
where struts and stanchions get in the way
all remain out of sight,” points out the mas-
ter carpenter. “The raw vehicle shell is anything
but a smooth wall that lends itself as a
surface to simply attach a piece of furniture
to, like in any apartment.”
The striking shark logo and the fiery
script are now adorning the coach. After a final
cleaning, and a comprehensive check-out
of both the technical details and craftsmanship,
the Sharks’ coach can set off for Cologne,
to be handed over to the club with all due ceremony.
For André Körner and his team, this
means bidding farewell to their “baby”. “A
coach is always a very special vehicle, which
also carries so many emotions. And when
dealing with a truly matchless individual
construction, this emotional association is
multiplied many times,” says Körner. “We all
feel a little bit proud whenever we catch a
glimpse of our unique creation on television
or the motorway.”
