Creating Sustainable Transport<br />

in Tourism Regi<strong>on</strong>s<br />

Biosire<br />

Objectives<br />

Biosire’s objective is to encourage greater use of alternative fuels – namely biodiesel and electricity – for<br />

transport fleets, ships and specialist vehicles that are used in tourist areas in Austria, Croatia, France,<br />

Greece, Italy and Spain.<br />

The project will run pilots schemes to test <strong>the</strong> use of alternative fuels and clean technologies. It also aims<br />

to increase <strong>the</strong> use of recycled cooking oil as a fuel, and examine <strong>the</strong> potential for biofuel producti<strong>on</strong><br />

and use in Croatia, Italy and Poland. In additi<strong>on</strong>, Biosire will provide informati<strong>on</strong> about <strong>the</strong> advantages<br />

of alternative fuels for tourism transport, while offering training, c<strong>on</strong>sulting and support to fleet owners,<br />

regi<strong>on</strong>s and municipalities.<br />

Results<br />

The project’s targets include:<br />

> Raising awareness am<strong>on</strong>g fleet operators about <strong>the</strong> benefits of alternative fuels.<br />

> Establishing a sustainable producti<strong>on</strong> process and favourable legal and market c<strong>on</strong>diti<strong>on</strong>s<br />

for biodiesel.<br />

> Transferring outputs and recommendati<strong>on</strong>s to o<strong>the</strong>r European tourist areas.<br />

> Involving o<strong>the</strong>r regi<strong>on</strong>s in workshops and training events.<br />

Budget: €1 685 020<br />
