THE DS 5<br />

Elegance and dynamic performance are hallmarks of the DS 5<br />

After the DS label became a standalone luxury arm under the<br />

Citroën name, the DS 5 assumed the status of flagship car<br />

– and if there is one thing that the first model has to achieve,<br />

that is to stand out and be memorable. With an all-new<br />

aerodynamic aesthetic, advanced technological improvements<br />

and a significant performance upgrade, the DS 5 is well on its<br />

way to living up to expectations.<br />

A member of the compact executive segment, the 4.53m long<br />

DS 5 is refined yet space-saving in appearance, allowing for<br />

more responsive handling and decreased fuel consumption.<br />

However, it possesses a spacious capacity, comfortably seating<br />

five with a generous boot storage of 468 litres – and the central<br />

console features a double 13-litre compartment cunningly<br />

concealed under the armrest.<br />

Upon entering the vehicle, the LED-based interior lighting<br />

creates a sense of drama by gradually lighting up the cabin,<br />

especially when the driver starts the car and the transparent<br />

head-up display with the three digital pads burst into life. Adding<br />

to the futuristic atmosphere is the original aircraft-inspired cabin<br />

design, which has a ‘cockpit roof’ with three panoramic glass roof<br />

panels and light wells that can be individually controlled.<br />

With its 1.6 THP engine, the DS 5 is a pleasure to drive<br />

with built-in intelligent traction control helping you navigate<br />

treacherous roads and smart headlights flaring on or off<br />

according to ambient lighting and traffic conditions for a safer<br />

drive. Driving information is also easily visible on a panel in<br />

your direct line of vision courtesy of a head-up display, and the<br />

eMyWay built-in navigation system can store map data, provide<br />

speed limit sign reminders and project rearview images in<br />

colour.<br />

This intelligent vehicle also has a cruise control and speed limiter<br />

with up to five memory settings, meaning that it will remember<br />

your preferred speeds. Improvements in springing and damping<br />

technology help to exert better control over the road, while an<br />

electric hydraulic pump delivers a smooth response without<br />

overcompensating, particularly on straight stretches.<br />

Of course, comfort is key and the DS 5 does not compensate<br />

on that aspect either, cushioning driver and passengers alike in<br />

eight-way electric-powered leather seats covered in a dynamic<br />

range of Nappa leathers. <strong>The</strong> driver’s seat, in particular, features<br />

a lumbar massage function perfect for easing the stiffness<br />

from long drives. Meanwhile, the car also has factory-fitted<br />

USB sockets with connectivity for Apple gadgets and Bluetooth<br />

connectivity for you to stream all your favourite songs for any trip.<br />

<strong>The</strong> product of a harmonious blend of breakthrough technology<br />

and luxury refinement, the DS 5 is poised to be a strong<br />

competitor in its section and promises to provide the answer to<br />

the age old dilemma of comfort versus performance. Now, says<br />

the DS 5, you can have both.
