Comprised of two farms on opposite ends of the
breathtaking Franschhoek Wine Valley, Cabrière is
extraordinary. Its rich history, whimsical setting, seductive
approach to wine, and its magnetic proprietor, make each
visit a seductively decadent affair.
The farm’s ethos is based on the core belief that wine is
grown – not made. Wine is more than what is in the bottle
– it is an exceptionally intimate experience. In the heart of
the Cabrière vineyards lies an unassuming sundial, its pillar
bearing a unique inscription: ‘Sun, Soil, Vine, Man’. These
four words form the crux of the Cabrière philosophy.
Cabrière is a wine farm steeped in history and local
lore. Originally granted to a French Huguenot farmer, Pierre
Jourdan, on 22 December 1694, it has formed a vital part of
the Franschhoek Wine Valley for over 300 years.
Pioneering is intrinsic to Cabrière, and throughout its
development and evolution it has always remained true
to this heritage. In 1982, a pioneering legacy in mind, the
vineyards were replanted in the tradition of the Champagne.
The wines and méthode champenoise that Cabrière now
create, are products of the pivotal decision, made over 28
years ago, to focus on the classic Chardonnay and Pinot
Noir cultivars.

Thanks to the courageous, unconventional decisions
made then, Achim von Arnim, the famed proprietor, and the
Cabrière team, continue to add to the farm’s spirit today,
by specialising in an enticing range of champenoise which
has been named after the original Cabrière trailblazer and
founder, Pierre Jourdan.
The Pierre Jourdan Tasting Cellar, situated adjacent
to the Haute Cabrière Cellar Restaurant, offers guests
an exclusive wine experience. The auditorium in the
maturation cellar, which is equipped with additional tasting
facilities, presents visitors with the rare opportunity of
enjoying Pierre Jourdan and Haute Cabrière wines in their
‘natural habitat’.
Every Saturday Achim von Arnim and his son, Takuan,
treat guests to the ultimate in wine theatre. Visitors are
whisked away on an intimate journey through Cabrière’s
history and wine philosophy. The use of the famed French
cavalry sabre to open bottle after bottle of Pierre Jourdan
Cap Classique adds the perfect amount of dramatic flair to
this exceptional adventure.
