Royal Street
32
Providence, Rhode Island funk pop
group Royal Street is named after
the street where vocalist Viana Newton,
drummer Brian Cauti, bassist
Zach Brock, and guitarist Alex Beattie
were all together when the idea for
the band was born. The band knew
each other for what seemed like forever
to them. They all played shows
together while in other bands, never
knowing that one day, they would
come together through different
twists and turns to make music and
become a messed up family (their
words, not mine) for over five years.
Currently, Royal Street are in the
process of recording their debut EP,
which they describe as one of the
best experiences they've ever had. “Every instrument has its own song
“The feeling of having a group and melody. Just feel the vibe of every
song, and dance, or move to it.
of songs that you're so proud of and
ready to show the world is just indescribable,”
Newton describes enthu-
When asked about the band’s future,
Newton is ready for what comes up
siastically. “We are just goofing off
and having a blast together, while
next: “In five years, we are at our favorite
bar, drankin fancy dranks and
still making the music we love.”
Influenced by the works of Beyoncé
and Taking Back Sunday, The five years has been... We are touring
reminiscing about how fun the past
1975 and Usher, Brand New and the
full time, finally feeling like all the
late Prince – Royal Street’s debut EP
hard work we've put into this band
will be an interesting blend of funk
and bands throughout the years has
pop and soft rock not meant to be
missed. “We want people to really
paid off. We have an amazing fan
enjoy listening to every piece of this base and support system and are
album." Newton expresses. growing in momentum each year.”
