adopt ‘Ingu Ombuno’ as its official newsletter to be brought to you yearly on a quarterly
WELCOME TO IOF
We are the reason
Christ gave us his life
and He is the reason
why we are brought
into this world. In our
daily toil and cares,
He comes to us in His
small still voice to inspire
and direct our
paths.
It is a great honor to
i n t roduc e e very
reader to Ingu Ombuno
Foundation
(IOF). It is an umbrella
organisation to support
and build the
capacity of SASA in all
its endeavours in both
in reach and outreach
programs. The association
is pioneered
by both current and
former members of
the Simbu Adventist
Students Association
On behalf of the
foundation executives,
board of directors
(to be reappointed)
pioneers
and affiliated members
of the association,
I challenge each
one of us to take IOF
mission and vision
statements seriously.
As the world is heading to its
doom and gloom, through
natural and man made calamities,
we are to stand united and
fight as candidates of heaven.
Battling for a citizenship in
heaven is a selfish game, we
were once introduced to it by
either an earthly friend/parent
or by our heavenly father himself.
To lead others out there
into the same path, is to stand
united with those of the same
faith. Maybe a brother is still
out there lost, or a sister is
struggling spiritually, you and I
can provide a helping hand and
IOF is one channel where we
can render this life support.
We have pioneered SASA as
students more or less still suckling
from our mothers. Why not
we do the same for IOF while
we are well vested on our own
feet to do so? God will give us
the courage to step up and wisdom
to know the difference.
Vitus Dame and Minister Malachi
statements at Mt Diamond - 2009.
MEET YOUR IOF BOARD AND
EXECUTIVE MANAGEMENT
TEAM
To our valued readers, observers
and supporters of IOF and SASA
student ministry, IOF is already 3
years old yet is still in its infant
stages of putting together an active
workable executives and board
of directors. The aim of this publication
is yet another appeal in a
different approach to get us focused
and know that we have yet
a mission to accomplish outside of
our daily toil in this great gospel
commission. The names of management
team and board of directors
find time to come together and
join hand in one accord to work
together to get IOF into fully functional.
IOF needs a dedicated person to move it forward. It has been addressed through email
forums for the last 3 years and current SASA as a major benefactor has been
dragged into it with some degree of expectations. SASA pioneers and senior members
are busy in their own sphere of influence and is not easy to drive IOF forward. Ingu
Ombuno appeals to SASA pioneers/senior workforce and willing hearts to commit
financial support and resources to engage a full time executive officer with an office
space to operate from.
BOARD of DIRECTORS
A 17 - men board was appointed
on 24 th December 2008
at Kerowagi SASA’s 20 th Anniversary
Convention. Since then
no formal board meetings were
held. Further constructive discussions
were held between
pioneers and concerned seniors
through e-mail forums and a
formal meeting was planned for
the 2010 Nondugl SASA convention.
However, the scheduled
meeting did not have the
required 75% of board to convene
a meeting. Having a large
number of IOF board membership
and all being engaged in
different works of life and
spreading all over the country
with few being abroad is practically
impossible to convene
any scheduled or annual general
meeting with attendance of
absolute majority.
The chairman, then made several
attempts to re-appoint a 7
member board with the aim of
concentrating 75% of its members
to be of either Port Moresby
or Lae based so that regular
meetings can be held to
move IOF forward. Appointment
notifications are being
served to individual pioneers /
seniors and are awaiting their
responses.
Because of non– performance
the board is currently dissolved
hence fresh appointments will
be announced soon.
“Official News letter for IOF and SASA”
Meanwhile, the current board
chairman Mr. Stephen Wemin
and his Vice, Jacob Sine are acting
in that capacity to fully establish
a practically workable IOF
Board. It can be realised that
when hearts are openly dedicated
to God’s call of service IOF can
spring forward to be God’s giant
soul saving organisation in preparing
souls for His kingdom.
SASA vibrant, Benson Miami,
current chairman of SASA Medium
Term Plan (MTP) has volunteered
to drive IOF forward. What
IOF members need to do now is
to step up, dig deeper into our
pockets to help support Benson
to get IOF established. IOF is us
and it is time we ‘walk the talk’
commit to this coarse if we are to
see progress at all. If a young
man is committed to service why
not the older ones step up and
support him?
Majority of us are not financial
members of IOF. Ingu Ombuno
therefore urge all to register and
support IOF to set foot.
CURRENT IOF BOD
Of the 17 member BOD the
following are still active and
vocal in pushing IOF forward to
see its success.
Stephen Wemin Gibilen - IOF
Chairman - Geology Superintendant-Xstrata
accident remembered as ‘Black
2010 claiming 38 lives near Umi
Bridge at Rakeampun along Okuk
Highway.
Amidst all these horror and terror,
doom and gloom, Simbu is
blessed to receive God’s final call.
Just 2 months back on the eve of
February 4, 2011 God visited a
small group of Young boys and
girls at Kinstar Village, Chuave at
around 5:30pm while lining up
for a snap shot a white light appeared
in the background that
was actually captured as seen in
the photo.
Two shots were taken consecutively
in the space of 1 minute
and strange enough a white light
appeared in background on the
first shot and not on the second
shot. This arouses curiosity within
the team and they straight away
inquire of God what this light
could mean.
They could not rest to talk about
it within them selves. They conclude
that is a signal of God’s
presence and on their knees they
asked God that Sabbath night if
God has any special message
for them through this light.
About 15minutes into their
prayer session, Jesus took the
smallest amongst them to the
Eastern sky into the heavenly
realms and showed him the
beautiful things he had prepared
for us. Christ told the lad
many things but here is what he
said we need to know in the
very words of Jesus our soon
coming king;
• The strange bright light is
myself Jesus, it is my presence.
• Tell the people that
heaven and hell are real and I
am coming soon
• The pages of the book I
am writing (Judgement Book)
are almost finished and I am
coming very soon
• A great trouble is com-
ing and it is just around the corner,
and only praying Christians
will make it through. So church
members must develop the
habit of getting down to their
knees and prepare for the coming
tribulation
This is good tidings and not to
scare us. Friends, we are almost
home. This dying world will
soon come to an end. Hold Fast.
SASA KONA: The Simbu Adventist Students Association is running into its 23 years of existence
as a humble Adventist Students Organisation walking the Gospel Truth with them
wherever they set foot, always eager to enjoy students ministry yet are also prepared to meet
whatever challenges that may come their way. For this year, It will be Kilau in Salt Nomane.
They have been there at the 5th Anniversary for 2 weeks long, they had shown some seed
there. They will now re-visit the area after 18 years for another 2 weeks convention. Of course
there will be plenty of surprises and you cannot just simply afford to miss this. Plan to be
there from the 15th—26th December from wherever.
as individuals and
groups to ensuring the
success of our convention
“Official News letter for IOF and SASA”
Salt-Nomane, the land of ‘milk and
honey’ was nominated as our ultimate
destiny for our 23 rd SASA convention
this year. By God’s grace, we
hope to make it a memorable time
of ministry and fellowship with the
local people, our own friends and
families and the Salt Nomane Layman
Association (SNLA) who will be
Convention Venue - Sainataun in Kilau
joining us to celebrate their 10 th anniversary
of dynamic ministry in the
area. With the SNLA, the convention
will be a dual convention. That is
something to look forward to.
As for the programs, in addition to
the main sermons, we have elected to
have various seminars, trainings and
sport programs aimed at ensuring a
balance of our spiritual, social, mental
and physical well-being. Our main
speakers are vastly experienced and
culturally vested, complementing a
dynamic atmosphere of ministry.
We may also secure an international
speaker.
To ensure the success of
our program, we urge you
to please continue your
prayers and be faithful to
your fundraising activities,
membership fees and other
financial commitments. For
the last 22 years, labourers
of love have always carried
the banner of SASA and I’
am confident that the good
Lord will bless us, the modern
labourers, as we continue
to labour in love with
the aim of completing His
mission.
I wish you all the very best
in your work, studies and
or other daily aspirations
and may God bless SASA
as we
j o u r n e y
into our
23 years
of ministry!
SASA 23 rd and SNLA 10 th Annual Celebration convention will be held in the Lutheran
dominated area. A letter was drafted by the Director of SNLA Mr Stephen Wemin to
seek permission to use the Evangelical Lutheran Church ground as well as use of their
church for the convention. The young Lutheran leaders were convinced of the program
as the first of its kind and are 100% supportive and their challenge now is to
meet with their elders. They are most likely to hit brick wall hence, we are to pray for
God to melt their stony hearts and give us excess to their church ground.
CONVENTION SITE UPDATE
My first official trip to Kilau-the
venue of SASA/SNLA dual convention
commenced on the 23 rd of
March and arrived at the site on
the 25 th . A meeting was held on
the night of 26 th at Kilau, attended
by a representative from each individual
clan from the entire Kilau
population of plus 5,000.
On the morning of 27 th I had to
walk to Oinima Church to attend
the organised board meeting luckily
scheduled on the day of my trip.
SWG promoting SASA/SNLA dual convention
at Oinima in the Church’s first
organised board meeting.
After the promotion at the church
board meeting, I had to race back
to Kilau before 4:00pm to witness
the promotion of the convention
by the committees to the local Lutheran
church congregation of Kilau.
Unfortunately time has defeated
me and some of the people
left for their homes but most were
still waiting for my arrival.
“Official News letter for IOF and SASA”
SASA/SNLA convention promotion was the first agenda
discussed at Oinima in their Organised board meeting.
One thing good about the Kilau community is that they
are very respectful and can spend hours listening attentively
to speeches in any gathering if that will concern
their life. SASA will gain that respect as I will continue to
prepare them for that grand moment for this Christmas.
A young leader represents the working committee to address
the community of Kilau about the big Christmas Convention
to be held at their very place.
Unlike many previous conventions, this one will be a
special one as the venue is right in the heart of the villages.
The current awareness and promotions are done
so as to create interest in them to look forward to the
convention and to create eagerness for active participation.
Lets be prepared for a true out –reach and evangelism.
SASA’s Guest speakers are well vested in the local knowledge. Pr Peter Bani will be
our morning speaker. For the evening speaker, a consensus has been reached between
SNLA director and current SASA executives to engage Pastor and Evangelist
Jonathan K. Wera. Both pastors are very dedicated ministers of the gospel who served
in the mission for all their life and with their vast experiences in the mission field is a
bonus to have in such new work area. We need such ministers to penetrate the brick
wall of Lutheran dominance and resurrect a second SASA Memorial Church in this part
of Simbu to create another legacy for SASA.
SASA membership has increased nationwide and one that is standing tall lately is
the Madang SASA. The strength of SASA is gaining momentum in this part of the region
as never before. Coming out from non-Adventist institutions is a challenge and
the battle they had to fight daily and especially out of Divine Word University is no
easy way out. Let your light house keep on shinning for Jesus so that those of us
long lost in the open ocean can re-navigate to know where we are and can re-direct
our route to safety.
A RISING STAR AS THEY CALL HER
The two days journey was the second time for me.
since my first legendary
journey in 1993 as a
student and as a SASA
tracker for the 4 th SASA
convention. Tracking
through the forest,
crossing a ‘lion’s den
like’ river on the historical
cane bridge and
floating down finally
brought me to Wenaiyo
village in the heart of
Karamui which they called as the home of SASA
hence was the reason that brought me there. Early
morning on the second day, I received word that
someone would very much like to meet me. Despite
not being fully recovered
from bruises and muscle
aches I slowly dragged
myself out of bed to
meet her.
She introduced herself as
Martina Henry . She was
ready to leave home to
return to college. The long journey becomes short
from her village to Pinoro airstrip when I had to
walk her to meet the plane as part of my sight seeing.
Suddenly on our way we heard the sound of an
approaching aeroplane. Martina had to rush for the
airstrip to board the flight, but I
could not simply catch up as I was
three legged still suffering body
aches from the journey. I finally
arrived some minutes later only to
receive her waving of hands inside
the plane and headed for
Goroka.
Time does not permit me to know
more about Martina personally. I
then asked around and they told
me that she is their “Rising Star.”
“Official News letter for IOF and SASA”
In a fraternal society where women are still regarded
second class has always defeated them
emotionally and mentally.
Martina was raised in such society where for a
women to excel is hardly heard of even to this
day. However, Martina is the first ever to break
through the barrier and that she has proven her
society wrong.
Little that I know, Martina’s face appeared in
amongst the beautiful faces of Madang SASA.
Martina is able to break that barrier and prove
men wrong. Though she may be the first female
to pave her way into tertiary education for the
people of Karamui, Martina is also a SASA rising
star and I had that privilege to have come across
her to discover and have this story to relate to.
Take courage and be a living model as your
achievement is history and again with God all
things are possible. There is nothing that God
cannot do despite man can look down on you
because of the customs and traditions that plays
the majors in our society. All things work together
for good to those that love him and are
called for his purpose, and we are to see ourselves
as God’s call to his service when you stand
out in societies as such. Be a rising star for God
through SASA for as long as life holds.
“Official News letter for IOF and SASA”
SASA 20 th Anniversary Convention was celebrated in style. They were privileged to
have an international Guest Speaker Pr Craig Newborn and wife Janice from Oakwood
University (USA). They love bird watching so Mr Wagl Bomal a local senior
SASA member and the current SASA president, Stanley had to walk them each morning
to watch the dancing and singing of our prestigious birds of Paradise. SASA and
the Simbu Adventist community had a wonderful week of celebration and the Newborn’s
were also glad that they had visited PNG.
When the Music Begins
Dr Newborn in one of his sermons talked about decision making. He uses the story of Daniel and his
three friends about what it means to making spiritual decisions. Making spiritual decisions is very important.
It means making up your mind, establishing limits; deciding what
your boundaries are. Decisions like; I will be true to God at all times
and in all circum- stances. This type of Decision is the foundation
on which all other deci- sions are based. Taking such a position (adopting
such a mental and be- havioural attitude) towards life will greatly increase
your likelihood of spiritual victory. Adding onto that is TIMING.
When you make deci- sions is very important to your success. Reading
through Daniel, 3: 1- 16; the story is a life or death matter. Will Daniel
and his friends compro- mise with King Nebuchadnezzar and go against
the truth they know about their God and live a life of a contemporary
world and idolatry or stand bold in their decision and face the consequences?
The issues of what to eat at the University of Babylon at the begin-
SASA president Stanley Tine with
ning of the school year the Newborns at Kerowagi.
and the worship of the idol to the command of
King Nebuchadnezzar forced the 4 young Hebrews to make life’s crucial
decisions each time. But their bold decision to stand by their faith reflects that before they were carried
away as captives, these 4 university students had been trained at home by their parents and because
of that, they entered Babylon determined to honour God at all cost.
We knew that Daniel and his friends refusal to eat of the King’s table, placed themselves in connection
with the source of all wisdom, making the knowledge of God the foundation of their education. They
placed themselves where God would bless them.
Young people; the opportunity will come and so will the challenges. Before the NEBUCHADNEZZER’S of
your life demand that you bow down to their images, make your decision to be true, whatever the
cost. What will you do when the Music Begins at your University or college?
