NUDE: Introduce yourself.
Ruby: My name is Ruby James, I’m 20 years old, live in
Seattle, and I love faces!!
NUDE: How would you describe your work?
Ruby: I like to think of it as very raw and real. No lack of skin
texture and no crazy makeup. I love photos that look like a
moment, not like a pose; photos that feel like you’re looking
in a window and happened to see a girl in some magical light,
you froze that moment in time and that’s what you’re looking
at now. I like to think it can be magical at times!
NUDE: Is photography something you always wanted to
pursue?
Ruby: Absolutely. Since I was in middle school I was always
into magazines and editorials, and once I had a way of
playing around with that myself, I was hooked. I went
through a lot of film as a high schooler.
NUDE: What has been your biggest achievement so far?
Ruby: Probably having Calvin Klein use my photo on one of
their shirts. While it wasn’t with permission, it was insane to
see that a company that big wanted to use a photo I’d taken
(as a 17-year-old) on their clothing!! I’m quite proud of it.
NUDE: What's your creative process for constructing a
concept for a shoot?
Ruby: I love making moodboards - having other creative
concepts to low of of is really fun for me. I love shooting
with multiple people for that reason. There’s so much energy
to bounce of of! I love looking at accessories or clothing I’ve
bought for shooting and then, using my little collection of
