Inspired by Betina Dutoit moodboards, I end up matching a style to a look and get going from there. NUDE: Which photographers inluence you, and how do they inluence your thinking, photographing, and career path? Ruby: I absolutely love the work of Marta Bevacqua, Emily Soto, Billy Kidd, Ted Emmons, and tons more. I feel that Marta Bevacqua’s work in particular (lately) inluences how I think of things photographically - I love the bit of “journalistic” feel her work has, very cinematic with a definite story behind it. I’m not amazing at conceptual photography but her work is so wonderfully simple while still telling a story and I strive to be able to do that! NUDE: There are so many photographers out there. What do you feel is diferent about your work? What’s your edge? Ruby: I personally feel that I capture girls in a very raw and natural state. I do love makeup, but I love shooting girls in what feels like their everyday look - because there’s so much beauty in what seems normal and usual. I feel my work shows of a bit more of the everyday glory that we miss, like some lovely light peeking in the window for a moment ater a girl has finished washing her face in the kitchen sink. Little moments that are very basic, simple and quiet but are also beautiful! N U D E NUDE: Who has been the biggest inspiration in your life? Ruby: Absolutely my mother. She was a photographer when she was my age and her film work inspired me to be where I am now - I copied many of her photoshoots when I was younger and she’s always full of ideas. Her support is extremely inspiring and helpful!! NUDE: What’s your motto or the advice you live by? Ruby: Do whatever you feel like doing, even if it’s not what’s going to please other people. It seems obvious but I tell myself this so oten! Sometimes it’s scary doing something you haven’t seen a ton of other people do, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t try it. Photographer // 79
