First, beginning May 1st, library patrons can access Ancestry.com Library edition at all public computers in the library. Second, a two part Beginning Genealogy Series is being offered in June. Part 1 Thursday, June 16th at 7 pm will cover organizing valuable family information and other methods to get started researching your family. Part 2 Thursday, June 23rd at 7 pm will introduce attendees to Ancestry.com and other computer and library genealogical resources. The workshops will be taught by Philip Hermann, former Program Director for the Massachusetts Genealogical Society. Also at the NTL this summer – Summer Reading Bingo for adults (18 and over). Submissions of short plays, one act plays, and full-length plays are currently being accepted from New England playwrights. Submission Deadline: Sunday, June 19, 2016. The Firehouse is committed to the development of new work. Over the past 14 years, more than 175 have been performed on our stage first-through our annual Firehouse New Works Festival. This festival fosters the growth of New England playwrights while showcasing the talent of local and regional actors and directors. Playwrights from across New England submit their 10- minute, one-act, and full-length plays to an independent panel who select the festival’s shows in anonymous readings. Directors and their casts then work with selected playwrights to produce two weekends of original theater. New Works Festival 2017 will be held on Fridays and Saturdays, January 21 & 22 and 28 & 29, 2017. Required criteria and submission forms can be found at firehouse.org. ------------------------------------------------------------ NEWBURYPORT - The Merrimack Valley Skating Club, in cooperation with the Graf Rink, is now accepting registrations for the June Learn to Skate program. Learn to Skate will take place on Monday afternoons from 4-4:50pm beginning June 20th. The summer series will run for 7 weeks. Specialized and fun Learn to Skate and The Town Common Tiny Tots classes focus on the basic fundamentals that are important for shaping both hockey and figure skating skill development. Skaters have the chance to earn skill-badges throughout the series. Student to coach ratio is kept low and classes are available for skaters age 3 through adult. Each member of the Merrimack Valley Skating Club coaching staff is a credentialed professional who has successfully completed a comprehensive background screening process through the National Center for Safety Initiatives.
