NHS Recipients<br />
On Tuesday, May 10, 22<br />
students were inducted into the<br />
Francis I Wallace Chapter of<br />
<strong>Hopedale</strong> Jr/Sr High School<br />
National Honor Society. During<br />
the ceremony, the new inductees<br />
were reminded by Treasurer<br />
Trevor Wilson that “A scholar is<br />
excited by the fact that what they<br />
learn today is not the same as yesterday”.<br />
Member Charles Hockenbury<br />
talked about service. He<br />
explained to them why they were<br />
eligible for the nomination. “You<br />
are here because you understand<br />
what service means. You are<br />
not the ones who respond when<br />
they are called; rather, you are<br />
the ones who volunteer before<br />
asked. You do not serve the community<br />
because of some reward<br />
or as a chore; you serve to serve,<br />
do good because it is good, seeking<br />
no repayment.”<br />
Vice President Molly McMahon<br />
said “the most important element<br />
of character is being this<br />
ideal person no matter where<br />
or who is watching.” The final<br />
pillar that was addressed in the<br />
speeches was leadership. Secretary<br />
Jenn Chiarello asked them<br />
to reflect on what they do and<br />
who they are. “Can you walk<br />
up to the “popular kid” and tell<br />
them that it’s not funny, and it<br />
never has been funny to make<br />
remarks at the expense of teachers<br />
or their peers. I challenge you<br />
to become THAT type of leader,<br />
your actions may not always be<br />
noticed, but they will impact so<br />
many people.”<br />

was the host for the ceremony<br />
and called the new inductees to<br />
the stage to recognize each one.<br />
