SHC adjourns petition<br />

KARACHI, Jun 1: The Sindh High Court<br />

(SHC) on Wednesday adjourned the hearing<br />

of a petition, seeking removal of Hotel<br />

Metropole as protected heritage, after additional<br />

advocate general sought time to take<br />

instructions.<br />

SHC bench, headed by Justice Nadeem<br />

Akhter, was hearing the petition filed by<br />

Karachi Property Investment Company<br />

(Pvt) Ltd which cited City District<br />

Government Karachi, Karachi Building<br />

Control Authority and chief secretary as<br />

respondents and requested the court<br />

to direct them for strike down Hotel<br />

Metropole as protected heritage site.<br />

In Wednesday's hearing, additional<br />

advocate general submitted there<br />

is possibility of resolving this issue by considering<br />

the proposal of revising the list of<br />

heritage sites. However, he requested the<br />

court to allow him a time as he needed to<br />

take instructions from the government.<br />

Upon his request, the court adjourned the<br />

hearing to a date which was decided by the<br />

court's staff later.<br />

In the last hearing, the court was<br />

informed that the government would reconsider<br />

the list that declared Hotel Metropole<br />

Overeating increases heart<br />

attack cases by 10% in Ramzan<br />

Qamar claimed on Wednesday<br />

that incidence of heart disease<br />

is very high in South Asian<br />

region, including Pakistan, as<br />

compared to other countries<br />

due to genetic reasons, while<br />

smoking and unhealthy<br />

lifestyles are also a major cause<br />

of increase in cardiovascular<br />

cases among younger people<br />

between 30 to 40 years of age.<br />

briefing along with another<br />

renowned cardiologist Prof Dr<br />

Nadeem Rizvi at Seminar Hall<br />

of NICVD. He said some people<br />

eat so excessively during<br />

the holy month of Ramazan<br />

that they gain more weight<br />

instead of losing it, and eventually,<br />

they end up at the hospitals<br />

due to heart disease, as<br />

well as due to some other<br />

complications of diabetes and<br />

Qamar said heart attack cases<br />

generally increase by 10% in<br />

Ramadan due to overeating<br />

and consuming fried products.<br />

He said people consume fried<br />

items like Pakoras, Samosas<br />

and Jileebi during Aftaar<br />

instead of eating fresh fruits,<br />

juices and vegetables.<br />

He said risk of heart attack<br />

in Ramadan increase in people<br />

with high-blood pressure as<br />

salty products can cause sudden<br />

shot in blood pressure. He<br />

said diabetic patients can also<br />

face complications if they<br />

observe fast without consultation<br />

with doctor. He advised<br />

people to drink excessive<br />

water during Sahri, avoid eating<br />

fried and high-calorie<br />

sweets atAftaar, and rely more<br />

on fruits and vegetables to<br />

avoid heart attacks and other<br />

complications.<br />

Two get 21-year jail term: An Anti-<br />

Terrorism Court-II (ATC-II) on Wednesday<br />

awarded a collective 21-year imprisonment to<br />

two convicts in explosives and illicit weapon<br />

possession cases.<br />

According to prosecution, police arrested<br />

accused Asif and Ramzan within the limits of<br />

New Karachi police station and recovered<br />

explosives material and illicit weapon from<br />

their possession in 2014. The ATC judge pronounced<br />

the verdict after recording the witnesses'<br />

statements, evidences and hearing<br />

arguments from both sides.<br />

He awarded 14-year-imprisonment in<br />

explosives case and seven-year in illegal<br />

weapon case to both the accused. However,<br />

according to the judgment, both convictions<br />

would run simultaneously.<br />

SHC orders vacation of houses lying in<br />

way of LEW project within seven days: The<br />

Sindh Court (SHC) on Wednesday recalled its<br />

stay order regarding the demolition<br />

of some houses, in Karachi's<br />

Liaquatabad area which were lying<br />

Expressway, and directed the residents<br />
