All good things, however, tend to come to an end and<br />
ultimately they decided to sell. But this isn’t a property<br />
that’s easy to walk away from and soon it was Plan B – go<br />
for change of use and planning permission for a private<br />
house which would not only be their country home but<br />
one that could be rented out as a short break holiday<br />
home. The transformation would be funded by the<br />
sale of a London project. Permission was duly granted<br />
and the White Horse entered its current incarnation<br />
as Ingham House, named after Simon’s grandfather.<br />
So the farmhouse is once again a private home<br />
and, says Simon: “I think it’s happier this way.” It<br />
certainly could not be happier with the care and<br />
flair they have brought to its renaissance. Although<br />
some of the touches are sheer metropolitan chic,<br />
they have never for a moment endangered its true<br />
identity as an elegant period country house.<br />
Their use of a single neutral wall colour throughout–<br />
Little Greene’s ‘Mortar’ – has not only enhanced the<br />
overall impression of light and space but provides a<br />
versatile canvas allowing them to go to town with<br />
imaginative and personal furniture, furnishings and art.<br />
