INTERVENTIONS<br />

1. Sustain the WHO <strong>Global</strong> Forum <strong>for</strong> Government<br />

Chief Nursing <strong>and</strong> Midwifery Officers to enhance the<br />

leadership capacity of the <strong>nursing</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>midwifery</strong><br />

work<strong>for</strong>ce in countries.<br />

2. Engage governments through the WHO <strong>Global</strong> Forum<br />

on Government Chief Nursing <strong>and</strong> Midwifery Officers to<br />

share the evidence in support of <strong>nursing</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>midwifery</strong><br />

work<strong>for</strong>ce development.<br />

3. Review <strong>and</strong> analyse models of current governments’<br />

chief <strong>nursing</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>midwifery</strong> roles <strong>and</strong> promote contextsensitive<br />

approaches to introduce or strengthen these<br />

roles.<br />

4. Develop a competency framework <strong>for</strong> leadership roles in<br />

the various aspects of <strong>nursing</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>midwifery</strong>.<br />

5. Identify the best practices <strong>for</strong> good governance <strong>and</strong><br />

develop a tool to enable countries to evaluate the status<br />

of their <strong>nursing</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>midwifery</strong> governance systems.<br />

1. Seek participation from partners in monitoring <strong>and</strong><br />

evaluating the implementation of the national <strong>nursing</strong><br />

<strong>and</strong> <strong>midwifery</strong> development <strong>strategic</strong> plan.<br />

2. In collaboration with partners, promote <strong>and</strong> disseminate<br />

successes <strong>and</strong> lessons learned to all stakeholders,<br />

including politicians <strong>and</strong> key civil society groups,<br />

to strengthen perceptions of <strong>and</strong> raise commitment<br />

to supporting <strong>nursing</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>midwifery</strong> leadership<br />
