The kit is appropriate for all elementary grades

• A 10-minute enhanced PowerPoint ® presentation
and script focusing on what all parents need to
know about reading. Conduct your own parent reading
workshop using the presentation and script or just pop
in the DVD for a professionally narrated PowerPoint ®
video presentation at conferences, in the school office,
on the website, as part of other parent meetings, etc.
• A 10-minute video on a DVD depicting parents in
a nurturing home-reading environment. Parents will
learn ways to stimulate their child’s interest in reading
at home to provide the vital reading foundation
needed for success.
• 50 copies of the 25 Ways Parents Can Read With
Children booklet (a $62 dollar value!) to give to parents
as a take-home reminder.
• Over 25 parent handouts to use all year to keep
parents engaged in the reading education of their children.
The handouts provide specific ideas to parents of
beginning readers and intermediate readers to help
with common reading topics and concerns and specific
ideas for parents of children who are struggling.
• Eight Program Profiles of clever and successful
literacy events. Conduct one or all 8 – from “It’s a
Great Life!” (using biographies to encourage reading
non-fiction) to “Take Parents to the Library First” (for
those parents who have never been), “Create
Student Journalists” (students become ‘stringers’ for
local newspapers) or mix the ideas together with
your own for unique events at your school or district.
• A checklist and a variety of proven community
engagement ideas (even for hard-to-reach parents)
to help you organize and host successful events.
• Sample press releases, invitations, event surveys,
posters and more. Plus, research summaries
highlighting the positive influence of parents on reading.
• A binder and CD (containing all the printed materials)
to help you stay organized for future events.
