Kieran Foran
treated in hospital
for prescription
overdose: report
PARRAMATTA star Kieran Foran was taken
to hospital in an ambulance following an
overdose on prescription medication it has
been revealed.
The Eels announced on Thursday night
the playmaker has been granted an indefinite
leave of absence by the club to deal with
a personal issue after spending a week in
hospital due to major concerns about his
health.
It has been reported Foran’s relationship
with the mother of his two children, Rebecca
Pope, has broken down.
It was reported on Friday that Foran will
miss at least three matches, including the
Test match against Australia in Newcastle
next Friday May 6.
The Sydney Morning Herald on Friday reported
Foran suffered an adverse reaction
to prescription medication earlier this week
and was rushed to St Vincent’s hospital.
It has also been reported the NRL’s welfare
department had been working with Parramatta
officials to look after Foran’s health
and wellbeing before he was granted leave
by his club.
At the time of the incident, Foran was
staying with his sister in the inner-western
Sydney suburb of Glebe when an ambulance
was called.
Eels CEO John Boulous said in Sydney on
Friday the club had been aware Foran was
struggling with personal issues for some
time.
“It’s been a while,” Boulous said.
“It’s been a while and it’s sort of come to
light in the last few days.
“Most of his teammates were aware he
may have been struggling with some issues.
They are very close-knit and as a group of
people they are thinking about Kieran at this
time and they are very supportive of him.”
Boulous refused to reveal the exact nature
of Foran’s personal issues or the reason
the Kiwi needed emergency treatment in
hospital.
No time frame has been established for
Foran to make his return.
“This is an opportunity for him to get himself
right,” Boulous said.
“Kieran will take as much time as he
wants and as he needs. We’ve put no end
date on that.
“I can’t put any time frame on that. This is
a decision for Kieran.”
When asked to confirm a report Foran had
put his hand up to play against the Bulldogs
on Friday, Boulous said: “The club made the
decision for him to get right”.
“He has some personal problems and
whether Kieran may have been able to play
or not is something that we’re speculating
on. What we do know is that Kieran needed
some help and he’s put his hand up to get
some help and we’re going to give him the
time to do that.”
