Older People Rebuilding Their Houses<br />

The elderly of Bichaur, Lamjung district are compelled to rebuild their houses on<br />

their own, not waiting for the promised government help. Their houses were<br />

destroyed by the devastating earthquake of April 25 last year. Suk Bahadur<br />

Gurung, 73 is one of the examples of that Village. He grieved, “It has been a<br />

yearlong that we have been waiting for the government support. Now, I am<br />

building my house on my own with help from my relatives”.<br />

The marginalized Chepang community of remote Brushwang village in<br />

Mahadevsthan VDC has been living on wild roots and nettles due to lack of food<br />

for the past two months in Dhading district. Chandra Man Chepang, 67, is the one<br />

of many. He lamented, "We have been living on wild roots for months but now<br />

availability of even wild roots is declining. If this situation continues we will have<br />

no option but to die of starvation next year".<br />
