Welcome to Provence…or is it a Russian fairytale dacha? The kind that
is an 18th century high-society summer ‘palace’, decorated in a manner
that was in vogue when the Russian-French connection was very strong.
With the dried flowers and herbs hanging from the ceiling, whitewashed
walls, woven baskets and the catchy aroma of a freshly baked berry pie,
this place could be both. Although it’s all about baked goods here (only
the bread comes in more than 16 varieties!), it’s a proper restaurant in the
disguise of a bakery. Pop in for a cup of tea with a caramelised quince
tartlet or stay for a proper meal. Eggs Benedict are sprinkled with red
caviar, buckwheat porridge is topped with tiramisu and soups are served
in the whole sourdough ‘bowl’ – not your average bread spot for sure!
