United Way together with kindness, conversation, generosity and music!
JUNE 17 Winnipeggers came
together to support Make
It Happen, a crowdfunding
campaign in support of 18
projects at 18 neighbourhood
family centres — places where
families in all forms gather and connect and
find the simple essentials they need to keep
moving forward.
JUNE 24 The joyful culmination of
our June anniversary events saw
hundreds of Winnipeggers come
out and celebrate together with an
amazing free concert at The Forks
where Winnipeg’s hottest bands and
hidden gems put on an incredible
performance.

FIFTIETH ANNIVERSARY
2005 The Aboriginal Relations
Council (now the Council for Indigenous
Relations) is formed. Today the
Council provides guidance and advice
on ways to weave Indigenous ways of
knowing and being into our collective
efforts to the betterment of all.
2010 Peg, Winnipeg’s first
community indicator system,
launches in partnership
with IISD to track and report
on data revealing the health
and well-being of Winnipeg.
2012 Living on the Edge
poverty simulation launches
as a unique group experience
designed to provide a
glimpse into what life might
be like for families living in
low-income situations.
2014 The Plan to End
Homelessness in Winnipeg
is launched. Today,
End Homelesness
Winnipeg is putting the
plan into action.
2015 For Every Family, an innovative partnership
with Government and the private
sector, launches to make a substantial
difference in the lives of families through
a matching funds initiative to expand hours
and services at 24 United Way-supported
neighbourhood family centres.

2004 First Plane Pull held
at Stevenson Aviation and
Aerospace. Today over 60
workplaces & 1200 people
take part in the annual event.
2006 Youth Connections
group (now Youth United)
celebrates 100 grants
awarded. To date Youth
United has granted over
$200,000 to youth to create
meaningful social impact.
2010
United Way
relocates to
580 Main St.
2011 United Way, one of the first
organizations accredited by Imagine
Canada, adopts a rigorous set of
73 standards that cement effective,
accountable, and ethical practices
in all areas of governance and
management.
2013 Together with the
Province of Manitoba, United
Way’s Winnipeg Poverty
Reduction Council co-hosts an
Early Childhood Development
Summit and announces a new
Innovation Fund.
2015 United Way Winnipeg’s
50th anniversary
2013 Campaign crosses
$20 million mark.
2014 With Susan Lewis’ retirement,
Connie Walker becomes United
Way’s President and CEO.
