CITY COUNCIL IN ACTION 2 2016 Special Census We recently completed a special census. Thank you to all residents who participated in the count. Every response mattered and we had a large response. The special census door to door campaign throughout the neighborhood these past few months has confirmed our new population to be around 5,275 residents. The City has had a large percentage of new housing and we continue to work on new projects that will enhance our population, making residents happy to call Asbury <strong>home</strong>! We would like to personally thank the staff of the Census Bureau, some of who were residents, who worked evenings and weekends to get an accurate count of our City. Board and Commissions Are you interested in serving your City by volunteering for a position on a Board or Commission? The City of Asbury is accepting letters of interest at City Hall for the Park & Recreation Board and the Planning and Zoning Commission. Boards and Commissions meet monthly. City Ordinances Did you know that when the City Council passes an ordinance, which is a change to the City Code or regulations, it is posted at City Hall, Casey’s General Store and Adams Pet Hospital? The ordinances that have passed this year are: New Driveway Specifications: Homeowners wishing to install a new driveway that doesn’t include the driveway section must file an agreement at City Hall before the driveway is installed. New Stormwater Rate: The new storm water rate change will add $1.00 to the current rate. Rate as of July 1, 2016, is $5.00. New Sidewalk Policy: This policy is intended to establish guidelines for the installation of new sidewalks in the City of Asbury and to document the methodology to be used to assess the costs associated with new sidewalk construction to the abutting property owner. The City of Asbury’s goal is to have curb, gutter, and sidewalks, on existing and future streets for the benefit of the health, safety, and welfare of the citizens. The City of Asbury is committed to being a walkable community. Street Designation – Also on our streets map, certain streets were designated as “collector” streets and “major collector streets”. Townsend, member of Boy Scout Troop 11, Westminster Presbyterian Church, Dubuque, Iowa, and Order of the Arrow Timmeau Lodge 74, recently achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. To earn his award Kyle built 15 picnic tables for the Parks Department for the City of Asbury. Ten of the tables are regular tables, five are ADA compliant for the handicapped. The City of Asbury is constructing a new park with a splash pad and will need new tables for the park. They are also going to replace some of their existing tables that are in bad shape. Fifty-four hours went into completing his project at the cost of $3,594.49 Kyle is a senior at Hempstead High School. Future Plans: Enlisted in the United States Army. Kyle Townsend is the son of Kathy and Gary Clemen, and Mark Townsend.

Check out www.cityofasbury.com Annual Asbury Pool Night The City of Asbury Pool Night will be held on August 5th from 7-9 p.m. at Flora Pool. Admission is free with proof of residency. All youth must be accompanied by an adult. Las Vegas Nite 41ST ANNUAL The Asbury Community Fire Department is hosting its 41st Annual Las Vegas Night on Oct 8, 2016 from 7 p.m. to Midnight. There will be games of chance, a silent auction, a raffle, and food and beverages available. You must be 21 years old to enter. Watch your mail in August for raffle tickets to purchase. Asbury Community Fire Department consists of all volunteers. The proceeds will help purchase equipment for our fire apparatus and ambulances. It will also help with training for the fire and medical services we provide to the community. Currently we have 31 members. Please stop by the Fire Station for a night of fun; view the station, equipment, and talk to the dedicated volunteers. City of Asbury: You’re <strong>home</strong>.
