INTRODUCTION
from Caribbean Export

Promoting Trade,
Export Development
and Investment Globally
Headquartered in Barbados, with a sub-regional office in the
Dominican Republic, Caribbean Export Development Agency
(Caribbean Export) is a regional trade and export development
and investment promotion organization of the Forum
of Caribbean States (CARIFORUM) and is the beneficiary of
financing from the European Union (EU) for the 10th European
Development Fund (EDF) under which the Agency is
responsible for the implementation of the Regional Private
Sector Development Programme (RPSDP).
The overall goal of the 10th EDF RPSDP is to contribute
to the gradual integration of CARIFORUM countries into
the World Economy and by so doing, to enhance economic
growth and by extension alleviate poverty. The 10th EDF
RPSDP has four specific objectives, namely:
a. Enhancing competitiveness and promoting innovation
among CARIFORUM’s private sector;
b. Promoting trade and export development among
CARIFORUM states;
c. Promoting stronger trade and investment relations
among CARIFORUM and the French Caribbean
Outermost Regions (FCORs) as well as the European
Union (EU) Overseas Countries and Territories in the
Caribbean; and
d. Promoting stronger trade and investment cooperation
between CARICOM and the Dominican Republic (DR).
The project also provides a complementary objective of
strengthening the institutional capacity of Caribbean Export
to implement trade and investment promotion programmes
in the region through its export development
programming and through support to the Caribbean Association
of Investment Promotion Agencies (CAIPA).
The Agency’s vision is to be recognized as the premier regional
organization for trade and investment development and promotion.
Our mission is to increase the competitiveness of the
Caribbean countries by providing quality trade and investment
development and promotion services through effective programme
execution and strategic partnerships.
Caribbean Export works closely with the CARIFORUM Directorate,
relevant government ministries across the Caribbean,
and with other public and private sector agencies that
have responsibilities to develop and promote business,
trade and investment. We also collaborate with organisations
such as the European Union (EU), the Inter-American
Development Bank (IADB), the Caribbean Development
Bank (CDB) and the UK Department for International Development
(DFID), which are our main sources of funds for a
range of development-focused projects and programmes.
Our Board of Directors is appointed by the CARIFORUM
states and is accountable to a CARIFORUM Council of Ministers.
Our operations are financed through annual contributions
from member states, donor funds and revenue generated
through our services.
The Agency promotes trade and investment through technical
and financial support, regional promotion, deepening integration
and cooperation and exploiting trade agreements.
Priority sectors include: Creative Industries, such as fashion,
music and audio-visual; Health and Wellness; Professional
Services, such as management consultants, architects and
engineers; Agro-Processing; Light Manufacturing; Specialty
Foods; Specialized Tourism; and Alternative Energy.
Caribbean Export looks forward to supporting the upcoming
Study Tours to Manchester (United Kingdom), Berlin (Germany)
and Paris (France) and welcomes the opportunity to assist
in strengthening the capacity of the region’s private sector
as they take advantage of the prospects available under
the CARIFORUM-EU Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA).
INTRODUCTION
from Bizclim

info@acpbusinessclimate.org
As Head of the implementation unit of the ACP Business
Climate facility, in short BizClim, it is for me a great honour
to be associated with the great efforts made by the
Caribbean region to jump-start the use of the Economic
Partnership Agreement (EPA), by creating awareness about
the Agreement and promoting business opportunities within
sectors that are readily positioned to do business with
the European Union.
Since the inception of the second phase of BizClim in August
2010, we have relentlessly seeking closer collaboration with
business leaders with the ultimate aim of together boosting
the business climate in ACP countries and enhancing trade
and investment between them and the European Union. This
pragmatic approach to business climate enhancement has
been underpinning the organization of business for a, public-private
dialogue and business meetings.
About four years ago, the first Caribbean-EU Business Forum
was born in Barbados, preceded by a study tour to Europe
focused on ICT and the Film sector. Ahead of the 2nd Caribbean
Business Forum, due to take place in London on the 8th
and 9th of August, two study tours will be focused on the
Caribbean Cultural Industry and manufacturing. The tour on
the cultural industry will be organized in Manchester (United
Kingdom), Berlin (Germany) and Paris (France).
I trust that the networking opportunities - this study tour
will enable – will be the Launchpad for future business and
investment deals. Lessons will be learnt and recommendations
made to create the enabling environment for businesses
to reap the benefits of the EPA.
