Promoting Trade,<br />
<strong>Export</strong> <strong>Development</strong><br />
and Investment Globally<br />
Headquartered in Barbados, with a sub-regional <strong>of</strong>fice in the<br />
Dominican Republic, <strong>Caribbean</strong> <strong>Export</strong> <strong>Development</strong> <strong>Agency</strong><br />
(<strong>Caribbean</strong> <strong>Export</strong>) is a regional trade and export development<br />
and investment promotion organization <strong>of</strong> the Forum<br />
<strong>of</strong> <strong>Caribbean</strong> States (CARIFORUM) and is the beneficiary <strong>of</strong><br />
financing from the European Union (EU) for the 10th European<br />
<strong>Development</strong> Fund (EDF) under which the <strong>Agency</strong> is<br />
responsible for the implementation <strong>of</strong> the Regional Private<br />
Sector <strong>Development</strong> Programme (RPSDP).<br />
The overall goal <strong>of</strong> the 10th EDF RPSDP is to contribute<br />
to the gradual integration <strong>of</strong> CARIFORUM countries into<br />
the World Economy and by so doing, to enhance economic<br />
growth and by extension alleviate poverty. The 10th EDF<br />
RPSDP has four specific objectives, namely:<br />
a. Enhancing competitiveness and promoting innovation<br />
among CARIFORUM’s private sector;<br />
b. Promoting trade and export development among<br />
CARIFORUM states;<br />
c. Promoting stronger trade and investment relations<br />
among CARIFORUM and the French <strong>Caribbean</strong><br />
Outermost Regions (FCORs) as well as the European<br />
Union (EU) Overseas Countries and Territories in the<br />
<strong>Caribbean</strong>; and<br />
d. Promoting stronger trade and investment cooperation<br />
between CARICOM and the Dominican Republic (DR).<br />
The project also provides a complementary objective <strong>of</strong><br />
strengthening the institutional capacity <strong>of</strong> <strong>Caribbean</strong> <strong>Export</strong><br />
to implement trade and investment promotion programmes<br />
in the region through its export development<br />
programming and through support to the <strong>Caribbean</strong> Association<br />
<strong>of</strong> Investment Promotion Agencies (CAIPA).<br />
The <strong>Agency</strong>’s vision is to be recognized as the premier regional<br />
organization for trade and investment development and promotion.<br />
Our mission is to increase the competitiveness <strong>of</strong> the<br />
<strong>Caribbean</strong> countries by providing quality trade and investment<br />
development and promotion services through effective programme<br />
execution and strategic partnerships.<br />
<strong>Caribbean</strong> <strong>Export</strong> works closely with the CARIFORUM Directorate,<br />
relevant government ministries across the <strong>Caribbean</strong>,<br />
and with other public and private sector agencies that<br />
have responsibilities to develop and promote business,<br />
trade and investment. We also collaborate with organisations<br />
such as the European Union (EU), the Inter-American<br />
<strong>Development</strong> Bank (IADB), the <strong>Caribbean</strong> <strong>Development</strong><br />
Bank (CDB) and the UK Department for International <strong>Development</strong><br />
(DFID), which are our main sources <strong>of</strong> funds for a<br />
range <strong>of</strong> development-focused projects and programmes.<br />
Our Board <strong>of</strong> Directors is appointed by the CARIFORUM<br />
states and is accountable to a CARIFORUM Council <strong>of</strong> Ministers.<br />
Our operations are financed through annual contributions<br />
from member states, donor funds and revenue generated<br />
through our services.<br />
The <strong>Agency</strong> promotes trade and investment through technical<br />
and financial support, regional promotion, deepening integration<br />
and cooperation and exploiting trade agreements.<br />
Priority sectors include: Creative Industries, such as fashion,<br />
music and audio-visual; Health and Wellness; Pr<strong>of</strong>essional<br />
Services, such as management consultants, architects and<br />
engineers; Agro-Processing; Light Manufacturing; Specialty<br />
Foods; Specialized Tourism; and Alternative Energy.<br />
<strong>Caribbean</strong> <strong>Export</strong> looks forward to supporting the upcoming<br />
Study Tours to Manchester (United Kingdom), Berlin (Germany)<br />
and Paris (France) and welcomes the opportunity to assist<br />
in strengthening the capacity <strong>of</strong> the region’s private sector<br />
as they take advantage <strong>of</strong> the prospects available under<br />
the CARIFORUM-EU Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA).<br />
