Letter from the Divisional Leaders Dear Friend, In 2015, The Salvation Army as an international organization celebrated the 150th anniversary of our founding. We were deeply humbled and grateful to participate in this celebration, which not only gave us an opportunity to look back at what has been accomplished in His name, but also to look forward and see how much more we can do in the future. As this annual report will illuminate, much has been done in the recent past, right here in Southern California. As the Divisional Leaders of this most distinct and impactful place, let us assure you that our supporters, like the people we serve, are constantly in our prayers. Within these pages, you will find much more than merely facts and figures and balance sheets. While important, reports and numbers pale in comparison to the lives we are privileged to touch through the generosity of our donors — lives like Hannibal Allahdem, a veteran who served his country honorably but, through a series of self-described bad decisions, found himself homeless, jobless, and at the door of The Haven, our program designed to serve veterans just like him. Hannibal’s story is not unique. It includes substance abuse, lack of focus, and poor choices. At the Haven, Hannibal learned to let go and let God “right” the ship of his life. His journey at the Haven began just 18 months ago, but now he is gainfully employed and about to move into his own apartment. He is ready to rejoin life as a contributing member of his community. To all our friends who have entrusted their resources to The Salvation Army, we say a sincere and heartfelt thanks. With your continued support and prayers, we will not stop the work of “Doing the Most Good” for people just like Hannibal, and for the multitudes of men, women and children who come to The Salvation Army looking for that “hand to man and heart to God.” Gratefully, Lt. Colonels Kyle and Lisa Smith
