Changes in issues
The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) has recently introduced quarterly reporting of Australia’s trade in
goods and services by State and Territory on a balance of payment (BOP) basis. This was a recommendation
that came out of an ABS review of its International Accounts output. The ABS has commenced publishing total
goods and services export and import data in current price terms, chain volume terms as well as the related
implicit price deflators. The data is also split into total goods and services trade. Two new State and Territory
tables have been added (Tables 7 and 8) to include a State and Territory dimension to this publication for the
first time.
For more details on the outcomes of the ABS review please refer to the June quarter 2015 edition of the ABS
publication Balance of Payments and International Investment Position, Australia (catalogue 5302.0) on the
ABS website (www.abs.gov.au).
For more detail on Australia’s trade by State and Territory please refer to the DFAT publication, Australia’s
Trade by State and Territory on the DFAT website at: http://dfat.gov.au/about-us/publications/Pages/australias-trade-by-state-and-territory.aspx.
