Joined the P.E.O. Sisterhood 1980
Written by Anita Calkins
I was invited to a PEO meeting at the home of Dorothy Myers after we moved to Des Moines
from Chicago in 1980. Marion Sundby had invited me to her church, her Bible study and now
her PEO chapter meeting. Sandy (Dorothy Myers' daughter in law) greeted me warmly. How
special for me that I joined all three groups! I was president when Marion died and was
privileged to read the beautiful words from our memorial service at our chapter.
I've held offices and been our committees in our chapter during these 35 years, and I feel
that in each endeavor I have grown in respect and love for the women in our chapter. We
have many amazing women in our group! The future is bright for us with the talents and
varied interests and caring that each member shows.
I'm thankful that our daughters Chrissy and Kathie have both received PEO grants and loans
to help them do graduate work in their fields. This is such a good outreach for PEO and
much appreciated.
Mary Kadlec, Lois Margolin and Roxie Key are friends that have joined HX at my
encouragement. I am so proud that they shared their talents and have meant so much to
our chapter. I'm grateful to be a member of such a vital and caring and joyful group of
women.
