INTRODUCTION Forum & Awards 2016 The Asia Pacific CSR Council & JCI Achiever, in support of The United Nations Global Compact is presenting the 5th Asia Pacific CSR Forum. The aims of the conference is to discuss matters of importance of social responsibility in business, good governance, sustainability in business and how all these can contribute to a better world in line with the United Nations Global Compacy Goals and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Along with the forum is the awards program to recognise and honour corporations that have executed highly successful and impactful CSR activities within or outside their boundaries. Foundation, is a strategic policy initiative for businesses that are committed to aligning their operations and strategies with ten universally accepted principles in the areas of human rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption. The organisers has found a common mission statement in CSR and UN Global Compact – to empower young people to create positive change. By providing an opportunity for companies to showcase their social performance, we are supporting the UN Global Compact and Millennium Development Goal, and its goals to embed markets and societies with universal principles and values for the benefit of all. WHAT IS CSR? Forum & Awards 2016 Corporate and Social Responsibility (CSR) is a concept that encourages companies to integrate social and environmental concerns in their business operations and in their interactions with their stakeholders on a voluntary basis. CSR seeks to create prosperity, support social cohesion and preserve a healthy environment. It promotes economic, social and ethical responsibility, as well as the system of social market economy. Specifically, CSR encourage voluntary actions that businesses can take, over and above compliance with minimum legal requirements, to address both their own competitive interests and the interests of wider society. Is CSR relevant? It has often been asked is Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) relevant to businesses? Pursuing responsible business practices can help any business enhance reputation and standing in building trust from stakeholders, generating sales, boosting enthusiasm and product innovation. In many instances, SMEs in particular besides MNC are ideally placed to pursue such responsible workplace practices. Businesses especially local SMEs often have longstanding contacts in servicing a local area and are well placed to understand and benefit from the community relations. While MNC companies reach global market place to touched community at large. Objectives The primary aim of the award program is to advocate in CSR culture into companies as a fundamental of business practice. • Increasing knowledge and understanding the positive impact of CSR on business and society • Developing the exchange platform to share good practices among businesses • Promoting the development of CSR management • Recognizing good practices and efforts of CSR among businesses • Supporting the UN Global Compact goals For so many, social responsibility is just a new way to describe something they do already. In this context, CSR does not aim to reinvent the wheel. It is about building on existing practice, maximising its impact and making a link between CSR and your core business activities.
