n late 2014, Matthew was playing in a kickball game at a field that seem to have more craters than a middle school aged boy’s face. In last game of the season, Matthew ran after a pop fly and his foot planted into one of the craters then twisted his knee. He was in excruciating pain, but stayed on the sidelines to cheer on his team for the remainder of the game. After the game, his teammates that included his coworkers and girlfriend, Lauren Thomas, helped him get back home safe and sound. After going to the doctor, he found that he had torn his ACL and would need surgery. Matt searched for the best doctor and found Dr. Walter Lowe. He is a very well recognized and respected doctor and has operated on professional athletes from the Houston Rockets and Texans. In February of 2015, Matthew had his ACL surgery and when he got out of surgery, his mom Margaret Krzyzanska and girlfriend were there by his side. His mom came all the way down from Canada to help him in him with his recovery. She took him to many of his
physical therapy appointments with his physical trainer Donnita. Donnita pushed Matthew hard and he was determined to get his knee back in working order in order to get down on one knee to propose to his girlfriend only one month after surgery. He achieved his goal on March 21 st 2015 and knelt down at the finish line of Lauren’s mud run. She graciously accepted as she covered his nice clothes in globs of mud. The two love birds were married on June 12 th 2015. In July of 2015, Matt started jogging out on the Heights trail in Houston with his new wife. He sustained an injury to the opposite leg, but that didn’t stop him from continuing his recovery. Matthew kept at his physical therapy for an entire year after surgery. At the end of 2015 and early 2016 Matt lost over 25 pounds by dieting and exercising while working 18-20 hour shifts on an oil rig. Matthew never gave up and had such amazing selfdiscipline through the whole process and is a terrific example of success.
