CMSF QUEEN 2015
RILEY SHANNON
Miss CMSF 2015
Since I was a little girl, I have been extremely involved
in the California Mid-State Fair. I rode every carnival
ride, tried food at every concession stand, went to
every concert, and when I was old enough, raised and
showed market swine while participating in landscape
plot competition. Then I graduated from San Luis
Obispo High School and started my journey at Cal Poly;
I grew sad, thinking I would no longer have an active
role in the Fair. I just couldn’t imagine my summer not
revolving around the scorching hot, fun, community
filled days that are the Fair. That’s when I decided to
take a chance, and run for Miss California Mid-State
Fair Queen.
I’m so glad I did. Becoming Queen gave me the opportunity
to give back to the community; I did so through
my platform, titled “Bushels of Fun.” I knew I wanted
it to be focused on two of my passions: Agriculture
and domestic violence awareness. To do this, I came up with the idea of making “bushels” of agriculture related items that would be
delivered to children that are victims of domestic violence or have mothers who are seeking assistance. They include coloring pages,
crossword puzzles, word searches, key chains, and fuzzy blankets that focus on agriculture. There are baskets made for numerous
age groups. I am proud to say that I will continue this project as long as the baskets are needed.
This pageant has put me in contact with so many incredible people. Whether they worked in the Fair office, raised livestock, worked
backstage at the concerts, owned a concession stand or operated a carnival ride, they greatly impacted my experience. I want to
thank everyone for being so welcoming and making it the best twelve days I could’ve asked for. I want to take a few moments to
thank the most influential people in my life. Thank you Mom, Dad, Kelsea and Hayden for encouraging me to compete and making
me a better person every day. With your support, I am able to achieve my dreams. Thank you Bonnie and Ginger for being my pageant
team, and reminding me that everything would work out fine. You were right; it did.
Princesses Kaitlin and Karina, thank you for being an incredible court. I couldn’t have imagined two more perfect girls to stand
alongside me over the past year. I will always cherish the memories we made together, and look forward to many more. Also, I am
grateful to our pageant crew, June, Bob, Joanne, Rachelle and Maribeth, for pushing me out of my comfort zone and making this
pageant possible. And finally, thank you Patti Lucas for being a wonderful director. Your hard work and dedication to the Fair shines
through this pageant. We are all so grateful.
I wish the very best to the 2016 Miss California Mid-State Fair Queen. Take it all in, and cherish every fleeting moment. Before you
know it, you will be standing where I am today, crowning the next queen. Thank you everyone, for the opportunity to serve as the 2015
Miss California Mid-State Fair queen; it truly was the experience of a lifetime.
