To our loyal partners in beauty,
Welcome! I am excited and pleased to offer you the first edition
of Q Magazine. It’s bold, it’s beautiful, and it showcases many
of the exciting new treatments and services our talented
surgeons are offering. 2016 is a fascinating year in the cosmetic
surgery field, and I think it’s the perfect time to offer this
magazine to our patients. Why? Because new beauty
treatments are coming out every day, many with some pretty
hefty claims, and as consumers, we have no idea what works
and what doesn’t. But we are very fortunate to have worldrenowned
surgeons right here in Rochester, NY, and I can’t think
of a better go-to resource for this type of information. Educating
patients is paramount to our doctors, and if you haven’t been
privy to their knowledge before, read through this magazine and
you will clearly see that they are authorities on everything beauty
related.
You may be wondering why I’m writing this prologue. Outside of the fact that it might just be a job
responsibility of mine, it’s honestly because I believe in this practice. I have worked at the Quatela Center
for over 10 years and have had the honor of having Drs. Quatela and Koenig as my bosses. Yes, you read
that correctly, the honor of working for them. I consider it a privilege. They are first-class surgeons,
buttoned-up in every way, and they have the ability to flawlessly execute almost everything they do. They
have gained international attention and respect from patients and peers alike and that is in large part due to
an unwavering commitment to quality care and a hard work ethic. Most importantly, they deliver consistent,
remarkable results to patients that not only improve their outward appearance, but change their lives.
So what is one of the most important lessons I’ve learned so far during my time at the Quatela Center?
That’s a no-brainer. It’s the definition of beauty (or lack thereof). I have learned that beauty is defined by
each individual and not by society, celebrities or surgeons. It’s unique to each of us and something that is
our own and no one else’s.
As a mother of two, my definition of beauty now is much different than how I defined it as a twenty-year-old.
Having children took a major toll on my body, and trust me when I say I didn’t take those changes lightly.
Since then, I’ve become wiser, stronger and more confident in the woman I am, and frankly, I find that I am
my most beautiful self yet. As women, we need to embrace where we are in life and focus on the positive
aspects that make us uniquely beautiful (men, this applies to your confidence as well!). And if there are
updates or small nips and tucks that need to be made along the way to help you boost your confidence, then
by all means, go ahead and find your beautiful. You deserve it!
I hope you enjoy this first glimpse into the mastery and sincerity of the Quatela Center. We like to think of
ourselves as a family here, so please, pull up a chair and join us as we dive into some of the exciting topics
and discussions that make us who we are.
Dual
DID YOU KNOW? EIGHT FACTS
ABOUT DR. VITO QUATELA
board certification means that Dr. Quatela has completed education and training for
both facial plastic surgery (certified by the American Board of Facial Plastic and
Reconstructive Surgery) and otolaryngology (certified by the American Board of
Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery). He also served as the past president of
the AAFPRS (American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery) in 2007,
a high honor for facial plastic surgeons who reflect the Academy in their surgical
excellence and high quality of patient care.
Dr. Quatela’s overall mission is to improve people’s lives by aesthetically
enhancing their appearance and increasing their confidence. A lot of patients will
ask what signs of aging in their face or facial structure is most bothersome to him,
however he is most interested in what each patient is concerned with because
a patient’s perception of what they see in the mirror is the most important.
2
3
Rhinoplasty,
or nose surgery, is considered a challenging operation, and Dr. Quatela is
known as one of the pioneers of modern rhinoplasty. Most of his years of experience
have been spent perfecting his technique which allows him to achieve patient satisfaction
very reliably. He is an author and educator on rhinoplasty and has taught several
generations of surgeons how to be proficient. Dedicated to the training of other plastic
surgeons, Dr. Quatela has conducted in excess of 100 medical lectures over his career.
This has resulted in his teaching surgeons in countries all over the world including Turkey,
Italy, France, Germany, and Switzerland.
4
Serving as a preceptor for an annual AAFPRS Fellowship, Dr. Quatela trains and
mentors doctors who are completing their training in plastic surgery. Each year he
hosts a fellow at his practice, and has trained 20 doctors since 1995.
Dr. Quatela is considered an authority on facial plastic surgery and has been quoted by
popular media outlets such as W Magazine, Wall Street Journal, The New York Times,
Los Angeles Times, The Washington Post, and ABC News.
5The Lindsay House, previously owned by the Lindsay family and then the Rochester
Health Association, was in dramatic disrepair when Dr. Quatela purchased it in 1992.
He took it upon himself to oversee all decisions in its restoration and carefully
ensured that the original beauty and architecture of the home was maintained. Dr.
Quatela’s passion for restoration extends into every aspect of his life, whether it
is in the meticulous restoration of historic buildings or his thoughtful consideration of
detail and balance in his cosmetic surgery procedures.
8
6

7
Dr. Quatela has a love and compassion for children, especially those who cannot afford
medical care and who suffer from a deformity or conditions that can be remedied through
plastic surgery. One such deformity is microtia, where children are born without an ear or a
portion of the ear, and another is cleft lip and palate abnormalities. For this reason, Dr.
Quatela formed the HUGS (Help Us Give Smiles) Foundation and currently takes
three medical mission trips a year. On these trips his team of volunteer surgeons and
nurses provide surgery to children, repairing cleft lips and palates and forming ears out of
rib cartilage, changing their lives.
Growing up in Rochester, New York, Dr. Quatela is a graduate of St. Thomas Aquinas
8
and the University of Rochester. Dr. Quatela loves experiencing concerts of all
musical genres and enjoys the outdoors by spending time fly fishing. He often enjoys
both activities with his children.
A CUT ABOVE THE REST
A discussion about Dr. Koenig's most popular procedure, breast augmentation.
Breast
augmentation
is his most
requested
procedure,
and Dr. Koenig
is a leading
provider of
Allergan
breast
implants in
upstate New
York."
Many women are unhappy with the shape and size of their breasts. Breast
augmentation continues to be the most popular cosmetic surgery procedure
as more women are looking into permanent options to enhance and gain
confidence in their figure.
The first step to learn more about breast augmentation is finding a qualified
surgeon who you feel comfortable with. Since the procedure itself is very
personal and women often feel embarrassed showing someone else their
body, it is important that you find a doctor who treats you with respect and
listens to you about the result that you are seeking. While the surgical
expertise and experience of a surgeon is of the utmost importance, an
excellent bedside manner is often just as influential to patients when
selecting a plastic surgeon.
EXPERIENCE
Dr. William Koenig has extensive experience and
expertise specializing exclusively in breast and
body procedures. He is double board certified by
the American Board of Surgery and the American
Board of Plastic Surgery, and has performed
over 1,600 breast augmentations over the past 12
years in Rochester, NY. Recently, he conducted a
study on breast augmentation titled “Primary
Breast Augmentation: A Single Surgeon
Experience with Nearly 1,000 Cases,” which was
presented at the Northeastern Society of Plastic
Surgeons in Boston. His presentation highlighted
his low complication rates as compared to
national averages, due in part to his use of the
Keller Funnel to place implants. Capsular
contracture, complication, and infection rates
were measured at less than 1% for his patients.
COMPASSION
Dr. Koenig has been frequently recognized by his patients as compassionate and consistent in providing
excellent patient care. This is evidenced by his Compassionate Doctor Awards in 2012, 2013, 2014 and
2015 and the Vitals Patients’ Choice Award in 2014. He is respectful of his patients’ time which earned him
the 2014 Vitals On-Time Doctor Award.
OPTIONS
Breast augmentation is his most requested procedure, and Dr. Koenig is the leading provider of Allergan
breast implants in upstate New York. He offers three implant options: saline, silicone, and form stable
(gummy bear). Sizes and shapes are determined personally for each patient by taking into account their
body shape, size, and the outcome they are looking to achieve.
SAFETY AND COMFORT
All surgeries are performed as out-patient procedures at the Lindsay House Surgery Center, an on-site,
fully accredited center where patients are given the utmost privacy. Dr. Koenig operates with a consistent
team of qualified medical professionals who assist patients during their cosmetic procedures daily.
In the end, the highest compliment that we receive is a referral from our satisfied patients. Probably the
most convincing information that you need as you contemplate breast augmentation is a recommendation
from a friend or family member about their experience. Dr. Koenig has been highly rated by patients both
publically across multiple review websites and privately by hundreds of patient referrals to his practice.
"Tell me and I’ll forget;
show me and I may remember;
involve me and I’ll understand.”
-Chinese Proverb
Sometimes patients are looking for cosmetic procedures to be an end-all solution to their
insecurities about a certain part of their appearance. However, at the Quatela Center we do
not view plastic surgery as an easy fix or isolated experience.
Patients are encouraged to be actively involved in the entire process, and it’s mutually
understood that choosing to have cosmetic treatments or surgery is a big decision for most.
Since this decision should not be taken lightly, Drs. Koenig and Quatela ensure that patients
are making the choice for themselves and are committed to that choice.
Assessing if a patient is ready for cosmetic treatments has a lot to do with the patient’s
motivation. Have they thought about this for a long time? Are they motivated by their own
thoughts and feelings or what society or someone else says about how they should look?
12

Are they realistic about what they see in the mirror? The more specific a patient is about
their concerns and what they want to change also helps to build a partnership between
themselves and their doctor.
What are the benefits of this holistic view?
Better surgical outcomes
The more involved that patients are with their surgical process, the better the surgical
outcome. This is because they are committed to making a change, not just having a
procedure done. Patients who are committed follow pre- and post-operative instructions
more closely and ask questions, all which contribute to a better outcome.
Higher satisfaction with results
Patients are more satisfied with their results because they’ve done everything they can to
ensure a successful procedure and outcome afterwards. When this is something that a
patient has truly thought about and has done for themselves, they are happier when the
desired result is achieved.
Longer-lasting results
The life of their results is prolonged by committing to healthy habits to take care of their skin
and body moving forward. While none of us can stop the biological clock from ticking, we
can take care of ourselves to prolong the aging process. A life-long commitment to healthy
habits will keep results fresh and youthful.
This holistic outlook results in satisfied patients who are invested in making the most out of
their lives as a whole. In this way, plastic surgery is a lifelong commitment when partnered
with efforts to improve the quality of one’s life. For example, in addition to what Dr. Koenig
recommends surgically to a patient, he also encourages them to:
1) Have healthy habits
2) Improve their diet
3) Exercise regularly
4) Have good balance in their lives overall
Committed to what’s best for each patient, whether that means surgery or not, the doctors
and staff at the Quatela Center feel that it’s a privilege to be part of this process with their
patients.
13

A facelift is an effective and safe procedure performed to restore a more
youthful appearance. Just as our faces are unique to each of us, surgery is
customized to each individual.
The overall goal is to address facial aging, concerns in the mid
to lower face, and the loss of muscle tone. With so many
options available for patients today when it comes to facial
rejuvenation, it’s important to do your homework. Below are
five frequently asked questions about facelift surgery.
Facelift with Complementary Procedures
Before & After Photos
Results by Dr. Vito Quatela
14
1. What is the best procedure for firming the neck and
chin?
A number of different treatments can be used for rejuvenation
of the neck and chin. For the removal of excess fat beneath
the skin, Kybella (which can dissolve fat over the course of
several treatments) or PrecisionTx (a method of laserassisted
liposuction that enhances skin tightness) are
common less-invasive treatments. For skin tightening,
Ultherapy, a noninvasive method of collagen building and skin
tightening, works well both as a treatment and a preventative.

Also a lower facelift can help significantly for the
chin and neck. The name “facelift” may be
misleading, but it’s important to know that a facelift
addresses the lower third of the face, tightening the
skin of the lower face and neck.
2. Is a facelift the only answer for lifting jowls?
There are a number of different ways to address
jowling with aging. As we age, the soft tissue and
skin of the lower face begin to descend. Fillers are
temporary treatments which can work for early and
milder jowling. Hyaluronic acids such as
Juvederm® and Restylane® are a good option.
More invasive options are surgical. A lower facelift
is the best and most long-lasting treatment for
jowling. Done well by a skillful surgeon, a facelift
can last 10 years or more.
Before & After Photos
3. What should patients look for in facelift before and after photos?
In reviewing a surgeon’s portfolio of before and after photos, there are a number of important factors to
notice. The photos should be standardized; the lighting, distance and angles of the photos taken for before
and after should be consistent. If evaluating facelift results, the hair should be pulled back from the face so
as not to distract or obscure any of the facial anatomy. The patient should not be wearing distracting
jewelry or excessive makeup.
It’s also important to notice head position. The head should not be tilted up or down but aligned with the
horizontal plane of the photo. This ensures the chin is in a neutral position. If the chin is pointed up, this
can create an artificially more youthful look by stretching out the neck skin. Similarly if the chin is pointed
down, this can accentuate wrinkles in the lower face and neck.
4. What is a weekend facelift?
A weekend facelift is another name used for a mini facelift. A mini facelift addresses isolated problems of
the lower face, but cannot improve aging as well as the full facelift. The major difference is that the results
from a mini lift are more subtle since the muscle layer is not elevated, giving the result less longevity.
5. How long should swelling and bruising last after a facelift?
Typically after a lower facelift/neck lift alone, the majority of swelling and bruising should subside by 10-14
days. It is not unusual for initial swelling to last up to 3-4 weeks in some patients. Swelling and bruising
can be decreased with the use of ice or some herbal supplements, however it’s important to speak to your
doctor about when and how to use these. Dr. Quatela considers a patient fully healed from facelift surgery
after 6 months.
15

Options for fat removal are constantly evolving, and many patients are looking to utilize the
newest technology. Desirable attributes of a liposuction procedure are for the least amount of
downtime and fast, noticeable results. However, not all patients are candidates for every
procedure.
At the Quatela Center, Dr. Koenig offers all available options for liposuction which
include laser, ultrasonic, and tumescent. Read on to learn more and help clear up the
confusion of the difference between traditional liposuction and SmartLipo.
16

What is liposuction?
Liposuction is a procedure to remove
unwanted, stubborn fat that resists diet
and exercise. It is not a solution for
weight loss.
How are liposuction and SmartLipo
the same?
Both traditional liposuction and
SmartLipo offer:
-Small incisions
-Minimal scarring
-Minimal downtime and recovery
We sat down with Dr. Quatela for an in-depth look at rhinoplasty, or nose reshaping, surgery. As
a pioneer of modern rhinoplasty, Dr. Quatela has dedicated most of his 27 years of experience
perfecting his technique to achieve uncompromising results. Here’s what he had to say about
this popular procedure.
Q: Who is the ideal candidate for rhinoplasty surgery? A: The ideal candidate for a cosmetic
rhinoplasty is someone who is properly motivated and has thought about the surgery for a long time. The
motivation to do this comes from within them, and that what they see in the mirror is what you see in the
mirror, so they are realistic. I think that the more specific a patient is with their nasal conflict, for example
they address that the tip is too wide or they have a bump on their nose, the better patient they are. The
more nonspecific and vague, “I just want my nose to look better,” “I want it to look beautiful,” “I want to look
like so and so,” the less of an ideal candidate they are. Motivation and specificity about their concern are
most important to me. Some patients also have a functional component where they can’t breathe through
their nose or their nose is crooked, so those are other good indications for having a rhinoplasty.
Q: Do I have to be a certain age to have rhinoplasty surgery? A: I’m often asked about the proper age
for a rhinoplasty. The youngest age that I think you should do rhinoplasty surgery is gender specific. For a
young lady it would be around 13, a male would be more like 14 to 15. But it’s also a judgement you make
based on looking at the development of the nose. As far as the upper end of age, probably the oldest
rhinoplasty patient was a 79 year old, and it was purely for cosmetic reasons.
18

Rhinoplasty Before & After Photos
Results by Dr. Vito Quatela
Q: What activity restrictions are there after
rhinoplasty surgery? A: One of the most
important restrictions after rhinoplasty is that once
your cast comes off, which is after a week, you
need to be very careful about the sun. Sunburn
would traumatize the skin and cause significant
swelling. It is important for patients to wear
sunscreen. We restrict aerobic activity for three
weeks after surgery because elevating your blood
pressure and heart rate is going to cause more
nasal swelling.
Q: What can I expect after rhinoplasty surgery?
When can I go back to work?
A: With a rhinoplasty you expect some bruising,
surprisingly it’s not with the nose, it’s about the
eyes, and there’s a cast on your nose. For the first
week, most people don't go in public because of
the cast and bruising. After a week, the cast comes
off, the bruising is diminished by at least 50-75%
and it’s more easily covered with makeup. Some
people will go back to work when the cast is
removed and just use camouflage makeup. I
recommend that people take two weeks off
because nasal swelling is down, you're breathing
better and the bruising is almost gone.
I believe that primary rhinoplasty takes a year for
full settling to occur. There are little changes along
the way that result as the skin shrink-wraps to the
framework.
The key is to get the skin envelope to cooperate with
what you’ve done to the structure of the nose so it
translates through the skin, and that’s what happens
during that first year.
The nose looks quite good prior to a year because
most of the result is front-ended so that a month
afterwards you’re looking at 75-80% of the result.
The last 10-15% of the result occurs over the course
of the year.
Q: How do I know if I’m emotionally ready for
nose surgery? A: The most significant change,
structurally, that I can make in someone’s appearance
is a rhinoplasty. It really is an important decision in
someone’s life, and you have to be certain that you
are prepared for this change. To see yourself in
different views is so important. Computer imaging
has enabled us to eliminate some patients for whom
the change could be too drastic or inappropriate. The
other thing that computer imaging does is it prepares
you for the change. You’ve already seen what you
may look like and provided that your end point is the
same result that you derived on the computer image,
you’re more mentally prepared for that. Anybody who
is truly motivated is ultimately happy and gets through
that period after surgery very nicely.
Approximately
two-thirds of
all women who
experience
pregnancy and
childbirth
suffer from this
condition."
What is it?
Many women are all too familiar with the post-pregnancy belly
bulge that is seemingly impossible to fix with diet and/or
exercise. This “pooch” is actually a medical condition known
as diastasis recti. “Diastasis” means separation while “recti”
refers to the abdominal muscles. The abdominal area sticks
out because the left and right bands of ab muscles have
separated from each other and widened.
This separation is the result of significant pressure on the
abdomen from pregnancy which causes the muscles to lose
their shape. Many times this muscle opening decreases after
giving birth, but changes can take up to a year and often the
muscles do not return to their original position.
20

Who is affected by it?
Approximately two-thirds of all women who experience pregnancy and childbirth suffer from this
condition. Diastasis recti often affects women who have had repeated pregnancies, multiple
births, or a baby with a high birth weight.
How can you treat it?
There are exercises that can help, but it’s important to be careful as some routines such as
crunches and sit-ups can actually make the separation worse. Physical therapy is also an
option and can certainly help to improve the separation but will not fully resolve the issue.
The only way to fully correct diastasis recti is with an abdominoplasty, or tummy tuck, surgery.
During the procedure, the surgeon can bring together and secure the muscles to their original
location. It is important to note that while diastasis recti is considered a medical condition,
insurance does not cover tummy tuck procedures to repair it.
The only way to
diastasis recti is
Are you one of the nearly 68% of people who are bothered by the fullness underneath their chin? This
common yet often untreated area is a nuisance to many, even those who are fit and trim. But now there is a
way to treat this unique area that is often impossible to eliminate with exercise. And the best part? You can do
so without surgery.
This revolutionary new treatment for the double chin, called Kybella, is available at the Quatela Center.
Kybella has made its presence known across the nation, and Drs. Vito Quatela and William Koenig have
put their support behind it.
This treatment, while relatively new to the market, has an extremely high worth it rating on RealSelf.com, the
cosmetic procedure website that offers dialogue between prospective patients and those who have had
procedures, before and after photos, and honest feedback and reviews.
And since “selfies” are not showing signs of going away anytime soon, the general public will continue to
notice that often subtle, but no less annoying, double chin. Read on for more information on treatment
options.
22

Who? Kybella works best in patients who have
moderate to severe submental fullness. This is best
determined by Drs. Quatela or Koenig at your
consultation appointment. The number of treatments and
vials will also be dependent on the size and fullness of
the area to be treated.
What? Kybella is a formulation of deoxycholic
acid, which is a molecule that occurs naturally in the
body and which aids in the breakdown and absorption of
fat. When injected into the treatment area, it destroys the
fat cells and prevents them from being able to store fat in
the future.
How? Using small needles, Kybella is
administered through a series of injections into the area
underneath the chin. There is mild discomfort associated
with the treatment, but it is not considered painful. A
topical or local anesthetic is generally used prior to
treatment for your optimal comfort.
Where? Treatments of Kybella are done in an inoffice
treatment room.
When? Kybella can be administered the same
day as your consultation appointment and takes less
than 30 minutes. Treatments are spaced approximately
four weeks apart.
PrecisionTx with Chin Implant
Results by Dr. Vito Quatela
Why? Why not? You deserve to look and feel
your best, so if submental fat bothers you, why
wouldn’t you be interested in a long-term solution
to remove it without surgery and downtime?
Not everyone is a candidate for Kybella, however
there are multiple options available to ensure a
great result for anyone looking to eliminate
submental fullness.
PrecisionTx is a minimally invasive laser
treatment to contour the jawline and chin with
minimal downtime. Only one treatment is
necessary, and results continue to improve over
time as collagen production is stimulated from the
heat of the laser.
Submental liposuction is a safe, permanent
solution which can be added to any surgical
procedure or done on its own. Liposuction
removes the fat cells underneath the chin and
these cells do not grow back. Often submental
liposuction is combined with a facelift to tighten the
skin for optimal results.
Lastly, a chin implant may be the perfect solution
for someone whose chin and jawline are not
defined. Chin implant surgery gives balance to a
patient’s facial profile and is a low-risk procedure,
which can also be done alone or combined with
other facial surgery.
Women experience many changes to their
bodies, and menopause is one that affects all
women at some point in their lives.
Unfortunately, one of the many side effects of
menopausal changes is weight gain that
occurs as hormones decrease and
metabolism slows down. In addition to an
increase in weight, fat is also redistributed
which usually causes a higher concentration
of fat in the abdominal area.
Women may exercise regularly and make healthy
choices about what they eat, but often their body
contours continue to change, leaving behind the
shapely curves of younger womanhood. Menopause
affects the body regardless of whether exercise
routines or healthy eating has changed. With age, it
also becomes harder for the body to lose weight.
Despite these changes, most women still feel young
and active in middle age and are looking for a solution
to maintain a youthful body shape.
According to the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic
Surgery (ASAPS), the number of patients receiving
liposuction procedures in the 35-50 age range almost
doubled from the 19-34 age range, correlating with the
average age that menopause occurs for women. As
more women seek a way to reclaim their body shape,
liposuction remains a popular procedure.
Liposuction Before & After Photos
Perfect for targeting areas of weight gain and
stubborn fat that resists diet and exercise, liposuction
is used to re-shape and contour the body. While it’s
not a solution for weight loss, the procedure can
redefine and bring back your shape. At the Quatela
Center, multiple options for liposuction procedures are
offered, allowing the procedure to be customized to fit
each patient’s needs.
IT'S TIME TO START THINKING DIFFERENTLY
ABOUT FAT
By adding
volume or fat
back into the
face, it actually
helps people
regain a more
youthful
appearance."
26
Men and women, especially those in middle age and beyond, need
to understand that fat is actually very important in maintaining or
restoring youthfulness in their face. When individuals lose a
significant amount of weight, either from stress or diet, it takes a
major toll on the appearance of their face.
Often, fat loss in the face, also known as facial wasting, makes
people appear tired and older than they are. By adding volume or
fat back into the face, it actually helps people regain a more
youthful appearance.

So, while maintaining a healthy weight is very
important and strongly encouraged, don’t forget
that volume can actually help you look younger
and more rejuvenated. Here are some options to
consider.
Non-Surgical Treatments for Volumization
Today there are a variety of safe, FDA-approved
injectable filler options for patients. Injectable fillers
are a great way for patients to non-surgically
restore volume with little to no downtime or
recovery. While they are not permanent, they give
patients the chance to see natural results with a
quick, in-office treatment.
• Voluma® is the first FDA-approved filler to
correct age-related volume loss in the mid-face/
cheek area. The cheeks and mid-face are the first
areas to lose volume as we age, which causes
them to appear sunken. Voluma® restores the
cheek contour with a subtle lift which can also
improve the appearance of the area underneath
the eyes. Results from treatment can last for up to
two years.
• Sculptra® is a different type of filler that gives
gradual results over time. Lost collagen is
replenished and the injection continues to work as
your own collagen develops. Treatment involves a
series of injections over a few months, with each
session building upon the last injection. This gives
a natural result which can last for up to two years.
• Other injectable fillers are available for fine lines
and wrinkles found around the eyes, the nasolabial
folds, forehead, and lips. For a complete list of
injectables available, visit the injectable page on
our website, Quatela.com.
Fat Injections with Complementary Procedures
Results by Dr. Vito Quatela
Surgical Treatments
For patients who would like a more permanent
solution to volume loss, there are surgical
options for the face. These provide a longerlasting
result that is just as natural.
• Cheek implants give patients a permanent
solution to create fuller, more defined cheeks.
Made of biocompatible, synthetic materials,
implants are anchored to the cheek bones to
ensure stability. The incisions associated with
the procedure are inside the mouth, so no
visible scarring results. If a patient were to
decide that they no longer wanted the
implants, they could be removed.
• Fat injections are another surgical way to
augment the face. During surgery, your own
fatty tissue is removed from elsewhere on the
body through liposuction and then injected into
areas of the face where deeper lines and
wrinkles have formed. In the first year, half of
the fat reabsorbs and the other half remains to
provide long-lasting correction. Most patients
will have several sessions over a number of
years to achieve permanent correction.
Hair loss is
common,
affecting
approximately
40 million men
and 21 million
women, but
that does not
make it any
less
embarrassing
or frustrating."
In the past, hair loss treatment options that were available were not
always natural-looking or best suited for each patient. Fortunately, there
are now safe, long-term solutions for hair loss using each individual’s
own hair. The Quatela Center for Hair Restoration offers the most
advanced, state-of-the-art options available to accommodate each
person’s unique situation and treatment needs. If you are looking for a
customized approach to restore your confidence, read below for more
information about one of the surgical options available, follicular unit
extraction (FUE) using the NeoGraft system.
FUE with the NeoGraft system is ideal for patients who wear their hair
short or have had previous hair transplants. It offers minimal scarring
with no incision, no sutures, and can be customized to any hair style or
length. As with all hair restoration surgery, most patients experience
little discomfort, minimal downtime, and some patients may return to
work the following day (depending on the nature of your job).
28
The main difference with the NeoGraft system versus the traditional
FUT or strip method is the removal of the grafts. During the FUE
procedure a specific NeoGraft hand piece is used to remove hair
follicles using circular punches.

Before and After FUT Procedure
Grafts are then separated by hand in the same way
that they are during the FUT procedure and then
placed into the thinning or balding area of the scalp or
eyebrows. Each graft is placed with precise attention
to the angle of natural hair growth to ensure naturallooking
results that blend with the existing hair.
Generally it takes 4-6 months to see new hair growth
after any hair transplant procedure. Final results are
assessed one year after the procedure. Additional
transplants or non-surgical options are also available to
complement results.
The Quatela Center for Hair Restoration caters to all
patients by also offering FUT, follicular unit
transplantation, as another surgical option. This
procedure is performed similarly except that a strip is
taken from the back of the head to yield the grafts.
Just as they are during FUE surgery, the grafts are
separated and placed by hand for precise, naturallooking
results. Patients will experience minimal
downtime and discomfort, while still enjoying the
benefits of a personalized result.
Dr. Quatela works with a dedicated hair
restoration team solely based at the Quatela
Center with over 30 years of experience. They
have worked alongside Dr. Quatela for years,
and are proficient in both the FUT and FUE
surgical options. With Dr. Quatela’s experience
in both the artistic and scientific side of hair
loss, he offers quality results for both men and
women. He is a diplomate of the American
Board of Hair Restoration Surgery and a
member of the International Society of Hair
Restoration Surgery.
Looking for a non-surgical option? PRP is a
non-surgical, medical treatment that involves
the application and injection of Platelet-Rich
Plasma (PRP) into the scalp to encourage new
hair growth. PRP is the portion of your blood
that contains growth factors that stimulate
inactive hair follicles to revert back to the
growth phase and restore hair growth when
injected where hair is thinning. Three sessions
each six weeks apart, a subsequent session six
months later, and sessions continued annually
has been shown to provide tremendous growth
and maintenance of existing hair. Downtime is
minimal and treatment can be performed on a
younger patient population.
When choosing your hair transplant surgeon, it’s
important to look at both the credentials and experience
of the physician as well as before and after photos of
their patients.
Out of the
hundreds of
treatments
available,
none of them
have been
effective for
the long-term
reduction of
the
appearance of
cellulite, until
Cellulaze."
30
Are you constantly reminded of those ugly dimples on your
thighs and buttocks? If you hate the appearance of cellulite,
you are not alone.
Approximately 90% of women have it, characterized by the
dimpled skin generally found on the thighs, hips, and buttocks.
Cellulite is caused by enlarged fat deposits deep beneath the skin
that press on the connective tissues, and it appears regardless of
age, weight, frequency of exercise, or diet.
There are many myths surrounding the causes and treatments of
cellulite. While diet and exercise can have an impact on its
appearance, there is no permanent solution to avoiding it,
especially because hormones and genetics play a part too. Some
creams may smooth the skin over time but none can treat the
appearance of cellulite long-term. Out of the hundreds of
treatments available, none of them have been effective for the
long-term reduction of the appearance of cellulite, until
Cellulaze.

If you are looking to get rid of cellulite,
the Cellulaze laser is the only
treatment that targets all three
problems that lead to its appearance:
thin skin, fatty deposits, and fibrous
bands. By stimulating your own
collagen growth, Cellulaze
increases the skin’s thickness by
25%. It also disrupts pockets of fat
and separates the fibrous bands that
are pulling down on the skin, which
allows the skin to smooth out.
Observers and patients
report a long-lasting, 60%
improvement in the
appearance of cellulite with
only one treatment."
It might sound good, but how is
Cellulaze different from every other
product and procedure that claims to
reduce the appearance of cellulite?
Most importantly, it’s permanent. In
addition, based on a clinical study
that was conducted a year after
treatment, 29% of participants had
increased skin elasticity, 25% saw a
decrease in skin laxity, and the
treatment received a patient
satisfaction rating of 93%. Observers
and patients report a long-lasting,
60% improvement in the appearance
of cellulite with only one treatment.
Results appear three to six months
after the procedure.
While swelling and bruising do occur,
discomfort is minimal. Minimal
downtime allows patients to return to
their normal activities within a couple
of days.
EYEBROW TRANSPLANTS
WHAT'S ALL THE BUZZ ABOUT?
In addition to offering both Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT) and Follicular Unit
Extraction (FUE, also known as the NeoGraft® system) for hair restoration, the Quatela
Center for Hair Restoration also performs eyebrow transplants. Individuals with partial or
complete loss of one or both of their eyebrows are possible candidates for the procedure.
32
Using artistic ability and hair transplant expertise, Dr. Quatela and the hair team ensure that
each hair graft is placed at a natural angle and direction of growth to restore your natural
eyebrow shape for beautiful results.

INTERESTED IN LEARNING MORE?
Below are some frequently asked questions about the eyebrow transplant procedure.
Q: What causes eyebrow thinning or loss?
A: There are many causes of eyebrow thinning or loss. These can include genetics, excessive
plucking, disease, and physical trauma.
Q: How long before my eyebrows will appear full?
A: Growth of new hair will be seen after a few months, and results will continue to improve for up to
a year after the procedure.
Q: What is the recovery time for an eyebrow transplant?
A: Recovery for an eyebrow transplant is minimal. Strenuous activity will be restricted for seven
days after the procedure, however many patients are able to return to work after 24 hours
depending on the nature of their job.
Q: Is my own hair used to create my eyebrows?
A: Yes, a small amount of hair will be taken from your scalp and then transplanted into the area of
loss. The position of the eyebrow is artistically designed and the grafts placed at specific angles
and directions of growth so that it will mimic the existing eyebrow.
Q: How long does the procedure take?
A: The procedure time is depended upon the amount of work to
be done, and how well the individual follows pre-op instructions.
WAIST TRAINING
WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT THE
LATEST HOLLYWOOD FAD
The root of
the problem
with waist
training is
that people
are
forgetting
about how
it affects
the
physiology
of the
internal
organs."
34
The newest trend in weight loss borrows directly from a practice that phased out in
the early 20th century. The trend of an hourglass figure is back and so is the
method to achieve the look: corsets, currently called “waist trainers.” This practice,
now known as waist training, is advertised as a fitness hack to achieve a tighter
core and shape the abdomen area, while accentuating the breasts and hips/
buttocks.
Khloe and Kim Kardashian, Kylie Jenner, and Amber Rose have all posted selfies
wearing the device and many have jumped on the waist training movement. But is
it worth all the fuss?
Behind the premise of waist training is that when worn for a certain amount of
time each day, the waist will be “trained” into a smaller shape. However,
nothing has ever disappeared just by being squeezed, so the fat is simply
moving elsewhere. And once the trainer is taken off, the body will settle back
into place. At best, results are temporary.

Not only that, but due to the constrictive
nature of the waist trainer, when worn
during exercise the ability of the lungs to
fully expand is limited, which does not
allow the body to get the amount of
oxygen it needs during activity. This can
cause you to become lightheaded, which
can lead to passing out.
The root of the problem with waist training
is that people are forgetting about how it
affects the physiology of the internal
organs. The green line represents the
diaphragm, dark blue line: liver, light blue
line: stomach, red line: colon, and yellow
line: small intestines. As you can see,
with the overuse of shape wear and waist
trainers, the organs are forced to move,
which can cause a myriad of other health
problems.
It is in no way a
safe or longterm
solution
to contour your
waist or lose
inches
permanently."
An illustration showing the effects of waist training
Overall, the only way that the waist trainer can
help you lose weight is by lessening your food
intake due to a squished stomach. It is in no way
a safe or long-term solution to contour your waist
or lose inches permanently.
Dr. Koenig says that while there are compression
garments that are used for patients postoperatively
with good results, they aren’t nearly as
tight and are only for temporary post-surgical
relief and healing. Neither are they used to reshape
the body or for weight loss.
In the end, while you might like the look of your
waist when wearing a waist trainer, it’s important
to remember that results are not permanent. For
weight loss, the tried and true tactics of a healthy,
balanced diet and exercise are best. And in order
to contour the body or remove fat cells
permanently, surgical body contouring procedures
can give long-term results.
Most of us remember the pin-pricked selfie of Kim
Kardashian after her “Blood Facial.” While Kim’s
after photo was a little extreme and clients can
expect their post-treatment appearance to be much
milder and without the visible pinpricks, her posttreatment
pic brought national attention to a new
non-surgical treatment used to enhance the overall
appearance of the skin.
We may not all be willing to show off our new
treatments via social media, but aren’t we all looking
to enhance the appearance of our skin? Celebrities
aren’t the only ones who desire to improve
imperfections such as fine lines and acne scars. And
if we can accomplish that non-surgically, then why
not?
Micro-needling is a non-surgical, minimally invasive
procedure that does just that. The Eclipse
MicroPen® is the device that performs the microneedling
by gliding over the treatment area and
using tiny needle pricks to create micro injuries to
the skin. This in turn stimulates the skin’s healing
process with the production of collagen and elastin,
two important proteins in the skin. Collagen is the
main structural component of the skin because it
provides firmness and shape. Meanwhile, elastin
helps skin return to its normal shape after being
poked or stretched.
Recovery is minimal, making
this the perfect treatment for
those who want to rejuvenate
their skin effectively but
without surgery or significant
downtime."
The micro-needling treatment is often done
in combination with platelet-rich plasma, or
PRP. Used to encourage the skin’s natural
healing and rejuvenation process, microneedling
with PRP uses the body’s own
platelets to enhance the results of micro
needling.
Ok, but how does that work? The
process to collect PRP is simpler than you
may think. A small amount of your blood is
drawn from your arm, and then spun down
in a machine that separates out the
platelet-rich plasma. The reason why this
is separated out is because the PRP
contains growth and healing factors. Once
this is done, the PRP is then applied to the
treatment area while the micro-needling is
performed to reduce friction so the
MicroPen® glides properly. It will penetrate
the skin through the small channels that
are created and enhance the growth
factors.
Recovery is minimal, making this the
perfect treatment for those who want to
rejuvenate their skin effectively but without
surgery or significant downtime. The face
may be swollen and red for 1-2 days
following treatment, and exercise may be
resumed the following day after treatment
or as advised by your practitioner.
It is recommended that you receive
anywhere from 4-8 treatments, spaced 4-6
weeks apart for optimal results. However,
you can begin to see results after 2
treatments as the collagen continues to
produce.
Inverted
nipples are
more
common
than having
blue or
green eyes."
Inverted nipples. Have you ever had a conversation about them?
Chances are probably not. But did you know that inverted
nipples are actually a lot more common than people realize?
About 10-20% of women, and many men, have inverted or flat
nipples. That means that inverted nipples are more common than
having blue or green eyes. Unfortunately, there isn’t a lot of
information about them, therefore causing women, and men, who are
embarrassed by the condition to suffer in silence. It’s important to
know that this isn’t a new issue and that you are not alone.
What is an inverted nipple?
Inverted nipples simply go inward, or lay flat against the chest,
instead of protruding outwards.
38

Before & After Photo Here
What causes inverted nipples?
An inverted nipple is caused by
tissue in the breast that is attached
tightly to the inside of the nipple
skin. This pulls it inward toward the
inside of the chest. The force of
tight, shortened milk ducts can be
greater than the muscle in the nipple
that pulls it outwards, causing the
inversion.
Nipples can be inverted from birth or
invert later in life. Nipple inversion is
often times genetic and exists at
birth or happens during puberty as
the breasts develop. If it’s not
genetic, inversion can happen due
to constricted milk ducts, scarring of
the milk ducts due to breastfeeding,
or a lack of skin at the base of the
nipple.
It is important to note that if you
have never had inverted nipples
before and they change, this can be
a cause for concern and should be
mentioned to your doctor.
Unfortunately, new nipple inversion
can indicate breast cancer so it is
best to speak to your healthcare
provider to ensure that is not the
case.
Inverted Nipple Repair Before & After Photos
Results by Dr. William Koenig
What can I do to fix it?
In order to permanently correct inverted
nipples, a minor procedure is usually
necessary. This is done in the office under
local anesthesia and takes less than an hour.
Two stitches are placed underneath the nipple
to create a pad for it to sit on and remain
outward.
Is the procedure painful or require a long
recovery? A local anesthetic is used during
inverted nipple correction and there may be
slight discomfort when that wears off.
However, discomfort usually does not last
longer than a week. Patients are able to return
to work after the procedure but are asked to
avoid exercise and strenuous activity that
would cause rubbing against the nipple area
for about a week.
Does inverted nipple repair change the
ability to breastfeed? Since the milk ducts
are divided or lengthened during the inverted
nipple procedure, breastfeeding will not be
possible afterwards. This is something that
you need to consider prior to the procedure
and perhaps decide to have your nipples
corrected after breastfeeding is complete.
PRICE SHOPPING FOR PLASTIC SURGERY
CAN ACTUALLY LEAD TO A HIGHER PRICE TAG
Recently, we have had an increase of calls from patients who have had surgery performed elsewhere and
who are now dissatisfied with their results or require medical assistance with post-surgical complications.
Some of these patients have gone to a doctor in another city, state or even a different country.
We understand that choosing a surgeon is not always cut and dry. One of the main factors for patients is
price. However, we all know that cheaper is usually not better. There are regional differences depending on
where you live, but many times the price reflects the surgeon’s experience and expertise, along with the
quality of their facility and staff.
An issue that can arise for patients who travel a distance to go to another doctor is that oftentimes they do
not have a comprehensive post-operative care schedule. If complications occur, one needs to be prepared
to handle those issues. Depending on the severity of the complications, travel might not be an option which
makes it difficult to get medical care from the doctor who originally performed the surgery.
Patients who have been “botched”
spend exponentially more than those
who had an excellent result in the first
place."
We often find patients in this scenario. In fact, an excess of 30% of our practice is revisionary
surgery. While we pride ourselves on excellent patient care and are always happy to help, we
would prefer not to see patients go down this path in the first place.
We want to take this opportunity to inform our patients and educate them on issues they need
to consider when choosing a surgeon. We encourage patients to choose board certified
surgeons who specialize in cosmetic surgery. While it may cost you less upfront to go
elsewhere, having to repeatedly fix something or endure multiple surgeries versus one only
costs you more in the long-run. Patients who have been “botched” spend exponentially more
than those who had an excellent result in the first place.
While many surgeons look great on paper, credentials alone are not enough. It’s also critical
that they are regularly performing the procedure you are interested in. When interviewing
surgeons, ask them about your procedure of interest and how many they perform per year to
get a better idea of the volume that they handle. Even though a surgeon is able to perform a
rhinoplasty, if he is only performing a small number a year, it is in the best interest of the patient
to seek a surgeon who is doing a higher volume. While quality is more important than quantity,
a higher number of procedures show not only a surgeon’s experience, but the fact that many
other patients have chosen him/her to perform their procedure. This is also why it’s beneficial
to choose a surgeon who specializes in specific areas because you have peace of mind
knowing that they focus solely on the body or the face.
Find a surgeon who has satisfied patients, great online patient reviews, impressive before and
after photos, and who can speak to your safety. A dedicated surgeon might even sometimes
say that you aren’t a candidate for a procedure or will recommend something different than
what you may have thought would work for you. Your safety and satisfaction as an individual
patient is what’s most important to them.
Dr. Quatela’s mantra is, “There are no shortcuts to quality.” Don’t short-change yourself when it
comes to your health and safety. Plastic surgery is safe and life-changing, but let it change
your life for the better.
