EDITOR’S NOTE
The Landmark
Stonewall Inn
Welcome to the third issue of Dee Shoots NYC Magazine! This is the May/June release, and I’ve got some
exciting photos to share with you. Thanks for sticking with me through the past two issues!
It’s a time of uncertainty here in New York City, as well as the greater United States. Once again, the theme
of police brutality and killings at the hands of police has reared its ugly head. As a society, it’s important
that we make an effort to come together rather than divide ourselves on this dilemma.
In this issue, the main focus is on the fashion side. I’ve got some great shots of the recent New York Fashion
Week, of which include iconic pieces from the Charlotte Ronson collection. You can also catch shots of the
Incoco nail polish pop-up shop that caused a bit of a craze, the one of a kind Chanel Boy.Friend watch
launch, and more.
In New York City, events take place every day that are worthy of saying “you had to be there!”, so one of
my goals is to bring “there” to you. Many of these must-see venues are right at your
fingertips, and I really hope these captures entice you to visit. As always, thanks for
reading and I hope you’ll check out the next issue!
Best regards,
DEE. Editor
Charlotte Ronson
is an English
fashion designer
currently living
in New York City.
She was born in London
to real estate mogul
Laurence Roson and Ann
Dexter-Jones, a writer and
socialite.
Her siblings include
her twin sister, singer
songwriter and DJ
Samantha Ronson,
and Mark Ronson, the
musician famed for the
hit single “Uptown Funk”.
Ronson maintained an interest in fashion for
many years before her breakout. However, she
never took it upon herself to begin designing
until at the request of her friends, who she
created pieces for.
Charlotte Ronson is a New York University
alumni, where she majored in Studio Art.
Following her graduation from New York
University, Ronson interned with Rolling Stone,
Harper’s Bazaar, and with famous designer
Cynthia Rowley.
It was in the year 2001 that Vogue magazine
and other popular fashion publications began
to take notice of her work. Ronson herself is
known for designs of impeccable style that
push the envelope towards new trends.
6 DEESHO TSNYCMagazine | MAY/JUNE2016

Ronson released her first collection in 2000, C. Ronson, which was met with an
immediate positive reception. C. Ronson received critical acclaim from many famous
publications.
By the time May of 2002 rolled around, her flagship store had officially been opened
in New York, located on Elizabeth Street. The location of her store, nestled in New
York’s hip Nolita neighborhood may have lended itself to her success. The initial C.
Ronson line is now but a smaller line connected to the Charlotte Ronson brand, with
the present New York location found on Mulberry Street.
The Charlotte Ronson brand is partnered with The Wall, a Japanese clothing company.
In 2005, C. Ronson was renamed to “Charlotte Ronson”, and has since become well
known for trendsetting fashions and exquisite designs.
New York Fashion Week is a bi-annual event
where international collections are displayed
for the general public, buyers, and the
press. It is held twice a year, in February and
September.
Three other cities worldwide receive a large amount
of media attention during their fashion weeks:
these cities are London, Paris, and Milan. Along with
New York, those cities form the “Big Four” of the
world’s fashion capitals. Each year, an estimated
$865 million in commerce comes from New York’s
Fashion Weeks alone.
The first New York Fashion week
took place in 1943, created by
Eleanor Lambert, press director
of the New York Dress Institute:
the industry’s first promotional
organization.
The event was originally called
“Press Week” and was intended
to provide a distraction from
French fashion during World
War II, as this was a time when
fashion insiders could not
travel to Paris to see French
fashion shows.
It was a success, and fashion magazines
began to feature more American fashion. Over
the years there have been many changes in
partnerships and sponsorships, perhaps most
notably in 2013 when IMG and its New York
Fashion Week events were purchased for $2.3
billion by William Morris Endeavor and Silver
Lake Partners.
This past summer on
September 11, 12, and 13,
Incoco, a revolutionary
nail company, welcomed
customers into its first
18 DEESHO TSNYCMagazine | MAY/JUNE2016

fusing multiple high-quality coats into a single
strip that yields brilliant, near instant results.
Modern women everywhere can benefit from
the innovation and convenience that Incoco
It’s hard to forget a name
like Boy.Friend. The most
recent addition to the
Chanel brand’s flagship
collection, Première, the
Boyfriend has all the makings
to become a classic.
The Première collection made
its debut in 1987, the maison’s
first watch design ever.
24 DEESHO TSNYCMagazine | MAY/JUNE2016

The watch itself is meant to look
androgynous when compared
to typical Première watches.
It looks more like a men’s
evening watch, which falls in
line with the status of the men
around Coco Chanel and who
influenced her elegance.
DEESHO
This is very much a luxury watch. No steel here,
which has an effect on the price tag in a way
(around $10,000).
The use of Chanel’s proprietary beige gold
delivers an elegance and radiance that the other
versions of this metal don’t yield. Basically, if
you don’t love this watch then we need to have
a discussion!
THE LANDMARK
STONEWALL INN
The Stonewall Inn, often
simply referred to as
Stonewall, is a gay bar
in New York City. The
establishment is famous for being
the birthplace of the Stonewall
riots in 1969. The events that
took place at Stonewall at the end
of the 1960s are considered by
many to be the most important
events leading to the start of the
gay rights movement.
30 DEESHO TSNYCMagazine | MAY/JUNE2016

The Stonewall riots were demonstrations of protestors against police that turned violent. The
first occurred in the early hours of June 28th, 1969, after police officers received resistance from
patrons they arrested.
Because the patrol cars to transport the apprehended patrons did not arrive on time, the crowd
of upset patrons and bystanders grew in size outside the Inn, to the point where the police
officers barricaded themselves inside the Inn until a task force later escorted them out.
32 DEESHO TSNYCMagazine | MAY/JUNE2016

The Stonewall Inn remains a symbol of
members of the LGBT community taking
steps to protect themselves and each
other.
Within two years of the end of the violence,
there was a gay rights group found in
every major city across America, Canada,
much of Western Europe, and Australia.
The events of Stonewall have been
featured multiple times in popular culture,
including two movies in 1995 and 2015.
